Morning everyone, yesterday turned out to be a very expensive day in the end. For the first time in ages I ended up in tears, through frustration and annoyance.

I took my car for its mot, and it failed. One of the tyres had a cut in the wall on the inside. So I had to drive very slowly to the tyre place and spend another £70 on a tyre. Then I had to go back to the mot station for them to retest and finally give the mot certificate.

Now I had broken the seat release catch, so bought the replacement part and we fitted it and then it cracked. So I have the job of booking the car in and letting the garage sort it. It can wait a week or so and then be done. Damh these cars......

Ive been on the net searching for a pine tv cabinet and I won one today for £11. Sold wood and just needs a re wax, bargain!!

Housework is done and the windows are open, I just hope nextdoor don't have another bonfire as soon as I try and peg my washing out.

We are going out to a party tonight, OH sister is 40. I hope there are no family dramas tonight, I have little to do with them so I find it quite stressfull to be there after past event.

Well must crack on, have a lovely day everyone, enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. take care x

Goodness FUDDLE how scary, a tornado? so glad you are all safe and no damage to the house. We had mad rain last night, we came out of the cathedral after the concert and were about half way home when the world turned into a waterfall, both soaked to the skin and crept in to drip puddles on the hall floor, much to the disgust of the kitten who wanted cuddles. There is much I don't care for about modern living but I have to express extreme gratefulness to whoever invented the warm electric shower!!!

KIDCT Drusillas is somewhere we took the girls very often when they were little, they loved it especially the adventure playground as it had a rope slide which they adored, both little tomboys! The Mary Rose and the Portsmouth Dockyard with the Victory and Warrior are pretty expensive but worth it in my opinion, and Gunwharf Quays right next door is an outlet centre with loads of nice eateries, the Chinese buffet 'The Water Margin' is very good, it's one of those places where you pay a set price for whatever you can eat, so growing boys with hollow legs would love it! There is a cinema at the site too if you get bad weather and it would be something the boys would be able to cope with. DD has just suggested Marwell Zoo near Winchester as a very good day out, it's very wide open and safari parkish lots of animals to see and wide open spaces too, they have some young giraffes which are fun to visit, penguins, big cats etc.

HESTER glad you are back with us an wishing you a very speedy recovery and return to full fitness and energy very soon, take cae of yourself, Cheers Lyn xxx.

Get well soon everyone who's feeling poorly!

I passed my appeal and am going back to uni! :) I also got a very nice cheque in the post as I've got back my deposit from when I was in halls of residence, and got a place on the volunteer team for a festival (Greenbelt) over the August bank holiday weekend (I get vouchers towards my food over the festival weekend as well as free entry, all I need to bring with me is clothes and my tent stuff)!

    Well doneTWOFISHES:, Also Kezloe.
HESTER, Sorry you've been in hospital. Hope you recover well.
KIDKAT: We did Portsmouth Dockyard years ago - I think about 15 years ago and it was £40 for a family ticket plus car park was expensive too. But we did it in two visits as there was a lot to take in and so, we got two day trips for our money only having to pay for carpark the second time. They gave you a passport and once you had seen an exhibit you couldnt go back to that one iyswim. Don't know if you would have time for two visits though, we were on a fortnights holiday. Can't remember when you're going, but have a good time. Esther x

Drusillas is lovely, well it was last time we went, the girls loved it. I went on a school trip to the Weald and Downland place, bored rigid (but I was 9 and it was cold and drizzly).

Can I offload? I hope you don't mind.

My lovely, docile, funny DS has been in trouble at school cos he thumped another boy :eek:

I am in total shock and don't really know what to do. They are both 14 (year 9) and there was an incident yesterday which resulted in DS saying to the boy "Alright, don't kill yourself" which is awful (and shocking given what I am about to say) but apparently is a standard "joke" so called at the school. The boy retorted "what, like your Uncle?" (my OH's brother ended his own life just over 3 years ago). Now if DS had thumped him then, I might have understood but he didn't. He came home and didn't say anything about it. Today a load of boys were saying "YOu should have hit him" so --- he did :( I am more upset than I can say - the premeditation, the peer pressure, the fact that it is something which can't be undone.

He is excluded on Monday and seems contrite but I can't read him at all. We have taken his X box and other treats away but are not sure what else to do to punish him. We are not cross - just frustrated and perplexed.

Sorry, I know no-one can help, just needed to get it out.

I know this was a few weeks back, but as a Mum of a teenage boy I wanted to say a couple of things I hope would help.

My son (now 15) who sounds similar to yours had a similar incident around 18 months ago. The teachers concerned were actually pretty good, they knew he never got involved in fights and pushed the kids in the group around him to find out why he had hit the other boy. Long story short the school got all the kids together to talk things out and ALL sides were punished IN school. Sons school has a really good anti violence and anti bullying policy, but they try to avoid exclusions as they say the kids just see it as a day off school. They do various punishments, but the one that the kids hate that seems to work is spending a day or more in "isolation". The kid spends the day escorted by a teaching assistant and has to do their school work, but gets no interaction with any other child-break times alone, dinner alone etc. Can you image how much this drives teenages crazy. They also have to go through "councilling" sessions where they talk things out and work out why they resorted to violence.

Son has been fine every since and in fact is now quite friendly with the boy concerned. BUT I have to say when I listen to DS and his mates-online or RL the way they talk to each other can sound awful sometimes and can be VERY un PC, but it seems to be the accepted norm and in a way because ev1 gets insulted it becomes nothing to them. A bit like if someone swears a lot it becomes everyday to them.

Teenages eh! Hope he has been fine since the incident.

Fuddle, I have pm'd you the link, though it's not very interesting at the moment as I'm not up to posting much.
Hospital was all very exciting, you know you aren't well when the triage nurse sends you straight to a cubical! I've lost 3 & a half stone in a couple of weeks, effective, but I wouldn't recommend it as a diet of choice.

Lovely to see you back Hester. There was I thinking that you had been whisked away on some exotic holiday and were enjoying a bit of R&R and more than a bit of Hestering and you were actually languishing in hospital! Hope that you soon feel better again. 3 and a half stones, WOW! That was some illness. Poor old you.

I'm not actually here playing on the computer you understand. I'm actually ironing/sorting out my bedroom/clearing up the kitchen/ tidying my desk........................

So just as I start to get into the act of posting, I end up back in hospital with problems with my feeding tube. All sorted now thankfully and I've a good few pages to catch up with (again!!).

On another topic, does anyone know of a cake I can make that doesn't contain butter or margarine? It's my turn to bring the food for our sewing circle and one of the girls has a nasty allergy. Usually I just buy her crisps and packet of party rings but I'd like to include her in the cake this time. I don't eat at all myself but still like cooking. Thank you.

Hugs to everyone who needs it xx

Wow, how do you manage to cook and bake when you can't eat it?

    TEA LOAF

    1 Cup of dried fruit
1 Cup Fresh Made Tea - soak fruit in this until cold.
    2 Cups Self Raising Flour
1 Cup Sugar - Supposed to be castor but I use normal granulated.

Mix well, pour into a lined 2lb loaf tin.
    180c oven for 50 mins.

Easy Peasy and no butter, dairy or eggs. It's supposed to be served with butter but I never bother.

I got the recipe off one of these sites, but not sure who it originated with. Could have been Thriftlady on her wartime thread.
