My mum was Irsh and if they're all like her then they like to boil stuff too LOL - and yes with bicarb.. and cabbage - oh god the amount of cabbage I had to eat. We never had a roast either, and only had chicken at xmas. We must've had meat but all I can remember is sodding cabbage.
I havent had a sweetie since the 15th of June!!!

I LOVE sprouts! But I`ll only buy them in season, still on the stalk so they stay fresh & no need to pick over/waste/trim. I`m lucky cos my veg man at the farm shop always sells them on the stalk, and usually the `sprout tops` makes another meal or goes into soups/stews/stir fries.
My eldest granddaughter once took a bare sprout stalk into school to show - hardly anyone guessed what it was!

I haven't been around since the week end. i am so tired at the moment and not sleeping well at all.

I am still waiting for the letter from the hospital with ds14's results. I was told on Friday that the letter was there to be typed but still nothing...

fuddle if you find a good recipe for granola let me know as I keep meaning to make it.

mcculloch hope you have a good time in the IOW. we are driving almost as far from Durham to Bournemouth. We have never been across to the IOW though and should do one day.

well my mood has not improved after speaking to my mum. one of my cousin's is going to see my other cousin whilst we are down south. my mum says we should go which means spending more money to stay somewhere and cost of petrol. plus I'm not that bothered about seeing my cousin II am seeing the other one earlier in the week) - I know that sounds awful but we don't have much in common. my mum said the boys should see their family and my aunt and uncle who send them birthday and Christmas presents. off to look for a cheap campsite...

  • Woo hoo let's have a SPROUTFEST toughies, we're in danger of outnumbering the ones who hate them!!!

Those of us trying to do primal eating are finding it jolly expensive on the whole but, yesterday I had a little eureka moment when I went to get some lunch to eat on the train home. M&S do 2 whole chicken legs, roasted and ready cooked for £2. They are delicious and that is cheaper than I can buy and cook them. Then today I went into A*di and they do a 450g pack of ready cooked chicken thighs and drumsticks for £1.99p. This is going to make the budget stretch so much further, I've just had one of the M&S ones for lunch with some salad and it was certainly big enough to fill me up and I have a good appetite. The other thing I found today in Mr.T is they have the packets of fridge raiders by Mattesons at half price, so 59p and again that is affordable so I got a couple of those to fill up corners on hungry days. It is also going to keep the kitchen cooler during this hot weather, I love the nice days but, oh goodness the nights are a bit of a pennance aren't they? I find it so uncomfortable being hot at night and wake up lots of times, so I'll be pleased when it cools off just a bit, so we can be comfortable again, Cheers Lyn xxx.

Nuttyp you must be so proud of your DD, excellent results.

Mrs LW thanks for the tip about the fruit in granola ...thats where I went wrong. I sprinkle some granola on plain white ice cream with a drizzle of jam that didnt set well, lovely grub.

MrsLW thanks for the info about ald* chicken drumsticks. I will have a look for them next time I am in.

I love sprouts and so does ds14. I don't like them all mushy though. we get the sticks from the farmer's market for Christmas. boy are they heavy when you have to carry them up 3 hills!

nuttyp well done to your dd. you must be very proud.

Slightly off topic, But i'm struggling to find star drops after reading about it on here.

Tried all the major supermarkets but with no joy, I also asked customer service at our local MR T, MR S Both said they have never heard of the product before.

MR A said that they use to stock it about a year ago but know its been recalled & they no longer supply it. So any idea's where i can find it? Should i be looking in £world, £land ect?

    Thanks in advance x
