How about a tea loaf or carrot cake with raisins? We make both and the raisins and carrots and juice provide enough sugar I think.

Wish people stop setting off fireworks, it's ridiculous going off all hours. Had a friend calling of Bristol at stood a clock in the morning. Idiots keeping her children awake all night with flashing lights and bangs. Surrey I'm a bit grumpy just hard dealing with fireworks with a sensory sensitive child.
To many accidents happen and fireworks should only be handled by licenced professionals. Despise the way shops sell them to anyone.

Had ds2 friend here today, he's a lovely kids and lives opposite is. They played very nicely together upstairs, had lunch and played more. Now just getting tea sorted and then do a bit of homework with the little man.
Finally put form in for secondary school, in the end I took control as oh was being difficult. All done now through and have a network meeting tomorrow at camhs with senco.

Glad your foots feeling better chickens :)

Sheila so glad you are doing well and getting your other foot done so soon. Will be thinking of you when you have your MRI x

Kidcat, great idea for the mincecake - I have 4 jars from last year 15p each and OH likes light fruitcake - Mr kiplings one with the brown sugar on top but have never been able to find light enough one so your idea sounds good.

Nurse Maggie my Mum lives in Bolton just up the road from Aldi. I love that market - so cheap to buy food there. I always used to go about 3pm and fill my bag on wheels for a couple of quid :T

We are having Kentucky chicken tonight - no Im not wasting money, Tesco do a box of pieces for £4 which does 2 meals and always come out nice - unlike the takeaway ones where the quality is erratic.

Are the wheel weights still made of lead - I know they used to use lead, great scrap value if you can get a bucket full. No help to you keep having them stolen though.

Thanks for the heads up on the Mr T vouchers, I just logged in to find £20 so £40 when doubled, ordered DD1 a new electric blanket and got a couple of half price gift sets and a couple of nice note books to put aside for Christmas....grand sum of 25p!

It turned all windy and poured hard all afternoon, it's now very chilly and I'm looking forward to a snuggle on the sofa with a blanket and my crochet.....and lots of tea!

Does not matter what size cup you use as long as you stick to the same one.

    1 cup mixed fruit

    2 cups SR flour

    1/2 cup butter or margarine

1/2 cup of soft brown sugar can use less

    1 egg beaten

1 cup hot water I find it is better with about 3/4 of a cup of water

Put pour the water over the dried fruit in a pan and bring to the boil.
leave to soak over night. Add the rest of the ingredients and beat, turn into a loaf tin and bake at 150c for about an hour. Freezes really well. My mum always had some in the freezer and used to cut them in half and wrap them in foil.

The tradition is to call this cake after the person who gave you the recipe. My SIL was copying a recipe out of the be-ro book. I copied the granny cake too she said. No, that's horrible, I said grandma cake is named after who gave us the recipe, your brother named it grandma cake. My mum used to call it June's cake. June was American that's why it's in cups.

Got one with no sugar or fat will find that for you.

Guess it is raining most places that's why it's so busy on here.

Ginny I go to market about 3pm. We live just off Chorley New Road near the park. Shortest distance to the market is through the park or any of the streets round it. I can't get my shopping trolly back up the hill it is just too steep.

sugarless and fat less fruit cake

    200g sultanas

    100g raisins

    100g currants

    4 tablespoons powdered sweetener

    125mls hot tea

    1 egg beaten

    200g SR flour

mix together the sweetener dried fruit and HOT tea cover and leave over night.

add the egg and stir in the flour and bake for 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 hours at 160c

You can a few add chopped glace cherries to this recipe when the fruit is cooled.

You can do the same for the other cake.

There are fireworks going off now Been having them every night since Diwali (26th Oct) and I expect we have them for another week at least yet. They don't half echo around these terraced streets. Very loud! Someone let some off in the streets at 1 am during the week.

Nursemaggie if you wanted turkey you could just get a leg, plenty for 2 and very frugal too.

DH doesn't like dried fruit of any kind so I'm watching your cake ideas closely ;)

Lyn thank so much for mentioning clubcard boosts. I don't shop at T3sco any more but looked any way. I had £5 in vouchers so doubled them. The girls have ordered a cheapy christmas tree/decorations for their room. They are very excited. It hasn't cost me anything, I won't miss them and the girls are happy, so a win all round. :D
