Yeah, I felt a noticeable change past midnight last night kidcat. I expect the winter bedding be on this week.

Shiela you must have been doing as you were told from the medicals ;):D:p

Does anyone cook in rapeseed oil? It's supposed to be healthier than a lot of oils and cheaper than olive oil but I'm wondering what it's like at cooking at higher temperatures?

a lot of bog standard veg oils are rapeseed these days fuddle! We use it all the time (well apart from a bit of olive oil with the home made bread) and never have a problem :D

A nice easy day today. Got up late, leisurely breakfast with the papers. Tackled half of a massive washing up pile (the 2nd half awaits me) then took boys to the cheap kids movie showing so that DH could do some paperwork. Shame he doesn't get paid for it or even time off in lieu - he doesn't have to do it but wants to keep his job!
DS10 is finishing off his homework, he has spent a lot of hours on it but was sensible and broke it down into daily chunks and has enjoyed most of it. How they expect anyone away for half term to complete it though most folks can't afford it here anyway. Then making a roast which we are looking forward to, clear up, few sewing jobs and my favourite downton abbey... bliss.

Lyn enjoy your almost, practically, maybe most definitely, freebie slow cooker :)

We decided against the beach walk and have chilled out ever since. I have to say it was a good call.

I have put a fruit loaf in the slow cooker. We'll see how it does. I'm hoping it will work enough to have buttered for supper and use the rest toasted for breakfast in the morning.

Thanks for feedback on the oil knit witch. I've been reading it's good in sweet bakes too. Seems an all rounder. one for the stores anyway.

I am having dreamy thoughts of having cullen skink. I've only ever had it once when in Aviemore, years ago, but by gosh am I fancying it now. Think I will hunt out a recipe. Oh no, now lobster bisque is popping in too :rotfl:

Anyway back to reality. When that loaf finishes I'm going to do a slow cooker cauli cheese in prep for tomorrow's tea of braised steak in gravy. The slow cooker rocks. So much done with so little effort :D

For anyone who has an auty or a little person with sensory issues, the pop up glow tent has been reduced on @mazon to 11.99. I know a few people who use them as sensory den and say they are ideal for smaller spaces.

ETA fuddle I want lobster bisque now!! I have also been craving chowder!

Stop fibbing my little Scottish pal, we're all as batty as a box of frogs, I don't see any difference in you either!!!

I'm with you on both counts, Lyn :rotfl:

Fuddle As knitwitch said, most "vegetable oil" now is rapeseed oil (unless you get something like Mazola, which is corn oil.)

I use it when frying, except if i'm making something Italian when I'll use olive oil, and it's great when making muffins too (the cake sort of muffins. not "English muffins" which are the sort of crumpet-y things .)

Sorry, just needed to rant. My landlord has left it 2 weeks after advertising our spare room to sign a new contract with the person who was moving in and she didn't show up to sign it! So now I'm stuck paying double rent until we can get someone else in! Grrr! I'm so annoyed with them both as I'm out of work and didn't need the extra expense and hassle right now.

Anyone looking to rent a room in Aberdeen by any chance? ;)

Lyn I was thinking of doubling up some cl*bcard vouchers but I don't know if it works the same way it used to. I used to be a big cl*bcard user (have had whole cruises and most of a car with clubcard points in the past) and have lots of accounts. I tried to merge them when the system changed and there was no point in big collecting anymore but all that happened was I lost most of the points I had and still seem to have lots of accounts (which I don't want). Online you used to be able to use them from different accounts if it was the same address but you can't anymore, does anyone know if it's that way in store too? I have lots of vouchers but they are all tiny and from lots of different accounts.
  • Hi POSESSION I had some vouchers through the post on Friday with re-issues of vouchers I'd been saving since the beginning of the year. They said I could double them up with boost in various departments so we looked online to see what was included and the home electricals were there. We ordered the slow cooker online and it automatically did the double up and told us what was left to pay. We used Click and collect and it asked which of the outlets we'd like to use including the Tosco Express just up the road. Result, £1.35 to pay and almost delivered to the door by the very next day, what is not to like???

Fuddle I was going to say rapeseed oil is usually sold just as vegetable oil. It is usually the cheapest. Does not make such a mess of your chip pan as sunflower oil either.

I recently bought a new chip pan. Sent DS for vegetable oil but he came back with sunflower oil said that was all there was.

Maybe I should have said rape seed oil. The chip pan is supposed to hold one litre of oil and be enough for two. 17 people said it was just right for two. Good job we do not like a lot of chips.

I thought a long time about where I could put one. Decided to move my kitchen towels and tea towels to the sideboard and put my herbs and spices in a draw. Now I am going to have to put labels on the lids, takes ages having to get them out to look first. I must have at least 40 jars.

Mrs LW how have you managed to keep a slow cooker that long? I am always dropping the lid. It so annoys me you have to buy the whole thing every time.

Sorry to go back to plastic bags again. We went to the market yesterday gave the woman on one of the veg stalls my veg bag and she always lines it with a big plastic bag. I got 2 kilos of chicken pieces for £5 and three chickens for £6. I can't get a thimble full of anything in the freezer now.

Anyone got any ideas for what to have at Christmas. DS will not want beef and a turkey is far to big for just two of us. DS is happy with roast beef just does not like the leftover beef for using up in other dishes.

The market has a good range of game but I don't know what any of it tastes like. Can anyone recommend.
