nursemaggie I suspect juice would be better in the cake than a smoothie...could you buy 1 - 2 small bottles, the size supermarkets sell for folk buying their lunch?
Or kidcat's suggestion of cold tea should be good though of course it will have a different flavour.
Welcome to the thread 12monthsand any new posters i've misssed saying hello to!

Thanks ivyleaf. No I can't buy smaller cartons of smoothies neither Mr M or Ald! sell small ones. I steer clear of the other supermarkets they are harder to get to and are expensive. I just thought it would be a way to use it up and have a cake. If you look I gave a recipe for a fruit cake with tea. I used to cook it for diabetics.
I will only be making half the quantity as only I will eat it. My DS does not like dried fruit. I have an older DS who if we see him in less than 2 years I will be very surprised. If he saw us 5 years ago he thinks it was last week. We will not get any visitors before July next year when my daughter visits again from Saudi Arabia.0 -
Nursemaggie I think we have the same son. One of mine hasnt spoken or visited or contacted any of the family since June - and he lives 20 miles up the road!0
-
I hope yours does not have a son you were not allowed to see until he was 2 because his partner was too shy to speak to me or even look at me for 2 years. I get sent about 50 photos of him a week but it would be so nice to get to know him.
Mine does not live as near as 20 miles but not more than 50 miles. The drive up here is through one of the most beautiful in England through the peak district. I have a lovely park near by which the kids love there is nothing to stop them coming. They do not even answer invites.
I do speak to his partner almost daily on face book and regular e-mails but it is not like seeing your grandchildren is it? The boy is 6 and the girl is nine next week. They know it would be time to come back before we got there if we went by train. They would be out anyway. I have not spoken to my son since Good Friday. That was my birthday.
I hope you see yours soon. When he was in his teens I used to send him cards saying Is there something wrong with your pen? Is your phone broken? Before he had a car I used to get daily calls now he does not have to wait for trains he forgets his brother and I exist.
I still have a lot of those cards perhaps I should send one. They are just postcards. I think sons like this are common. If he suddenly had an extra four hours a day he would not come and see us he would work an extra 4 hours. He is a workaholic. Is yours.0 -
Morning Toughies, dreary, dull and wet here today and I have a throat full of fur and tickles today so am not feeling 100%. We had thunder last night but Docky, although he came downstairs didn't panic and get stressed, just didn't want to be upstairs in the dark. Such an improvement on his normal response I think the valerian pour on is doing its job very well. I hope it helps him through the ordeal of fireworks this week too.
Nothing much planned for today which is just as well as my energy seems to have hibernated so I'll take it easy and have an early night tonight too.
Have yourselves a good day, Lyn xxx.0 -
Yes Maggie mine is a workaholic too, self-employed. I don't care anymore, I think it;s just how he is, and after we're gone he will regret not talking more when it's too late..
MrsL yes pet hibernate is a big comfy chair with plenty hot tea and sweeties!0 -
Hello everyone
Wishing you better Mrs LW, stay in the warm and take it easy.
((((((((((((((nursemaggie and mar))))))))))) sorry about your sons. I know how tough it is not seeing family members.
Posh cat woke me at 5am to be let out - cats have a cat loo but only use it in an absolute emergency, they would much rather have their butler opening the door for them. I couldn't get back to sleep so a long day for me. He is also being very naughty in terms of where he chooses to sleep - current favourites are the bread board :eek:, the kitchen worktop, the kitchen table, in front of the TV. We don't allow the cats on surfaces where we prepare and eat food but poshcat has other ideas. I am having to move things, cover things etc to stop him. At least stripey cat has stopped sleeping in the middle of the stairs or doorways.
DS10 forgot his wellies for school (as did I) so had to go back home to fetch them and DH phoned to say he has taken his old travelcard to the station. He got through the ticket barriers (probably as the staff know him by now) and went to a different station to avoid them the other end. He might not get through coming out of our station though so I need to meet him at the ticket barriers and pass him through the update ticket. It's one of those Mondays!
I did a stocktake of Mr Chesty, not hard as virtually empty and have planned meals tonight out of what looked like nothing really. Tomorrow I will defrost then I can refill (or part fill depending on funds) but I am putting the last few current bits on the top. I am determined to use up the very last of the odds and ends!
Off town for a couple of bits before school run - should be quiet as it's a rainy Monday so hoping to whip through. This eve is a bath, catch up of strictly with boys as we missed it on Sat and an early night.0 -
I've just picked up my new slow cooker, I must say the Tosco click and collect really worked well too, they said it would be in the shop after 3pm today but actually texted to say it was ready at 2.15 this afternoon,so away we went and within 10 minutes were driving away from the shop with the cooker. It looks fine, is an oval Breville 4.5 litre capacity and has low, high and auto settings. I'll try it out tomorrow and make a chilli or something like that and see if it is much quicker than my old Tower one. RESULT!!!0
-
It will be quicker Mrs LW. The problem I find with new SCs is they aren't slow enough. I loved my old tower one as it was very gentle. Even on low my new one cooks pretty quickly.0
