She rides a bike to work? See this is where I get cross. If she is riding a bike on the roads, makes an error of judgement because she's been drinking wine and gets hit by a car then not only is she putting her own life in danger but risking the mental wellbeing of the car driver who could potentially end her life by hurting her.

We all have to take responsibility for our own actions in life. Her actions are her responsibility and so are the consequences. I just wish that the consequences could be limited to the person who is displaying the behaviour and that by-standers didn't have to experience anything negative because of it.

You've done the right thing nutty. :)

    Morning all

how can I shrink my shoes?

I bought some flat, pump style shoes last week and thought they'd be ok. After wearing them to work today I have realised that they are a touch too big and are "flapping". They probably need to go down half a size or so (tho I realise this won't be exact). they are leather - if I wet them thoroughly and leave to dry will that do it, d'ya think? Should I dry quickly in the conservatory, which is baking hot or slower in a cool shady place.

    Any experience welcome.

I was wondering about GQ too (especially as I was ironing :p) and so am glad she's ok and too busy for our frivolity.

At work this morning then back home to write a lecture for Monday. Am busy with DD's party, marking, writing lectures, writing next years course content. And people seem to think when we've no students we have nothing to do
I wanna be in the room where it happens

I might be misunderstanding Nutty, but if the license can be revoked then she is putting not only her own job in jeopardy but yours and everyone else who works there. In which case there's no choice but to do something about it really.

VJ's Mum can you get inner soles, maybe half ones?

    Hi all
Nutty I agree that you have done the right thing too. I know some larger companies often offer support and counselling for addiction (be it alcohol or drugs etc). I have also known same companies turning a blind eye to it so they don't have to try and help. However,as you said the company could lose their license I would have thought that instead of risking the whole workforce losing their jobs, the company will have to deal with the person who is drinking-one way or another.
Don't feel guilty for reporting them either. Ultimately the drinker is responsible for her own actions.
My ex is not an alcoholic but he is alcohol dependent. He feels the need to drink every day at some point but never before work and he as never missed work because of his drinking. For years he has gone to work, gone straight to the pub from work for a couple and then dropped his car off and gone to a pub close enough to walk home from. He drinks pints and whisky chasers. To me he has no quality of life as such coz he is just hanging on for his next fix. Our children hardly ever want to go and visit because all he does is go to the pub and get slaughtered on a Weekend. He never even offers to take them to cinema or out for a meal or anything. So he has done this all by himself. They are in regular contact by phone and when they ask for it, he puts money into their bank accounts. It's sad really when they could have a much better relationship with each other if it wasn't for the demon drink. :(
Hoping to start a new healthy eating regime today. :)

I am sorry this image is so big - I have tried unsuccessfully to make it smaller:(

Can anyone tell me what this is and is it edible?

    Thanks!

nuttyp - you are doing the right thing, you need to raise your concerns. You also need to talk to your area manager about training for dealing with this kind of situation. If you are in a management role, with responsibility for the staff during the shift, you need to know how to deal with problems.
  • VJsMUM you can get 'heel grips' basically a heel shaped insert that sits in the heel of the shoe and takes up space so your feet don't slip up and down and blister. Those and the insoles are both likely to reduce show size by a half size. I wouldn't try wetting them if they are leather it will just ruin the shape of the shoe.

NUTTY the person doing the drinking is as others have said a liability to all of the other employees, if the licence could be revoked it would affect you all and if she is being too involved with customers, she will be bringing the whole establishment into disrepute, you should go higher up the management chain and flag up a formal disclosure of the facts to management, plus if you are acting manager and know it goes on and don't report it guess where the buck will stop when it does?

BUNBUN the leaves look like Rowan but the fruit is not typical for that tree. There are many sub species of rowan you'll have to wait and see what colour the berries turn when they're ripe and post us another picture for positive identification. If it is ordinary Mountain Ash then yes the berries are edible, but very tart and I have a recipe for Rowan Jelly if you want it later on, Cheers Lyn xxx.

Hi just a quick pop in, the area manager has been in touch and they are going to contact HR to discuss what to do next. I am in charge again tonight, and they have arranged for someone from another shop to be in after a little while. I think this is to see if they agree, I may be wrong.

I know that loosing her job will be hard should they let her go, but there are 4 other staff members there and we have 2 more starting on Monday. As fuddle said, how safe is she on a bike? She is also very friendly with one of the customers in particular, he is a known drug user. We have been warned he has hep c too. I have arranged for an anti hep c injection for myself next week. Just to be safe. The nurse suggested all the staff have it, to protect yourselves!!

Ive managed to clean the bathroom, do 2 loads of washing, shower and change. And visit my friend for a quick cuppa already. She a nurse, so that's where the hep c info came from.

Just got to pack my sandwich for tea and then off I go. Have a great evening everyone, I will pop by in the morning x
