Haven't done the ash keys yet BUNBUN but there are masses of them on the trees, they seem to be very thin and weedy looking this year with very little seed in them so I'm waiting to see if they bulk up. They should still be edible while they are green, it's only when they start to change colour that the sliks het tough. If you try yours let us know hoe they taste! Lyn xxx.0

It's amazing how quickly these pages grow on this thread so I mainly lurk. I must agree with everyone else Nuttyp. There's also the other workers' welfare to consider and I would urge you to ask for the relevant training for dealing with these dilemmas. Hope it works out all right for you.
We were looking at the tv advert for Aldee where they'd shopped for 4 weeks in their regular supermarket and 4 weeks at Aldee &the corresponding weekly amounts they'd reportedly saved. Even though we have an Aldee literally at the end of our road we now only seem to get about 20 % of our weekly shop there. I guess being retired means we have the time to look elsewhere in the High St and Home B**gains seems to have an awful lot of stuff cheaper. We're also lucky that we have a weekly market just up the road and I find myself at the Meat stalls at the close of business today. Got another load of bargains. Good job we bought a double freezer for the garage to cope with the vegetable gluts from the garden . This way it's always running economically. Does any one else go to quite a few different shops for the weekly list? We certainly couldn't have managed this when working.
All the main supermarkets but Sainsbugs are down various hills / hard work to cycle to so I leave Himself to do the main local shop with the car- so much weight to carry whilst I head off on my bike to S/bys. I enjoy cycling so much I managed over 12 miles in 2 trips yesterday. No wonder I'm knackered today and could only manage a tad over 2 miles!! However it's rather warmer in North Lincolnshire than it was yesterday so sitting in the garden looking at how well the veg are growing is a real pleasure.0 -
Most certainly do ROSANNA, we're retired too and have the luxury of time to do what we want. I find most of the big name SMs far too expensive, our local Mr T is actually putting £16 - £20 joints reduced price out in the reduced section, beggars belief but they must sell, that's more than my whole weekly meat money even on a profligate week! I do a lot of my shopping in the 99p shops and use the local greengrocer as the produce is much nicer than SM stuff and a much better price, I am currently getting vine ripened huge tomatoes for 39p a pound and peaches and nectarines at 6 for £1.50, good stuff eh? We too have A*di and L*dl within easy reach and a B & M a short drive away I also check out places like Wilkos as you never quite know what will be in there, it pays to shop around, and you don't which is very nice, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Just thought I'd pop in. I've been reading off and on on various breaks. I FINALLY finished an enormous side project for work. I'm feeling tired and still a little nervous about it. I'll sit on it for a bit longer before I submit it. The garden is going very well despite my neglect. I suspect I shall have broccoli out my ears when it grows up. There have also been a couple of bowls full of strawberries, the lettuce from the first batch is just about ready for eating and the onions look lush. Oh, and there have been a few blooms on one pepper and the rest have tiny little buds.:D Not bad for being completely neglected since last week with only spots of watering when I got a moment. Oh, and weeding the lettuces when it all got too much. There is nothing like weeding lettuces to put things in perspective.;)
Anyway, bit quieter now I hope so I shall be popping in. Just wondering if there was any sign of the baby yet, Princess?
Bunbun, I've never eaten Ash Keys, but when I pickle things I like to add dill and mustard seed, a bit of celery salt and anything else that strikes my fancy. I've had no complaints yet.:rotfl:
Nutty, what a tough situation. I think you've handled it very professionally. I don't envy being in your position, but letting it slide isn't going to do anyone any favours in the long run. I hope your managers handle the situation with tact, for the sake of all involved.
Well, sounds like my bath is finished and I'm in dire need after my bout of gardening today. Hugs to any who need them.
Oh, and whoever it was who loves the sun, I totally agree!:D Heavenly.0 -
