I was talking to her in PM the other day, she was busy. And happy :)
I spent the WHOLE DAY yesterday walking round Edinburgh, thought my feet were going to fall off. Lived all day on coffee and one scone. Weighed myself this morning and I've lost AN OUNCE. I'm fed up of dieting :D

Morning everyone, had a busy day yesterday - 14 hour work shift. Today is a half shift, so an easy day well sort of. Its looking like a its going to be another hot day again.

Now I have a dilemma for all you lovlies to help with, If you are aware someone is drinking alcohol while on shift with you what should you do. It involves then sneeking into the staff room for a 'wee break'. They drank over a whole bottle of wine, infact another good half too. They also then decided to argue with someone and swear lots at them. I have the pleasure of them tonight with me. I have never had to deal with this before so any help would be great.

My mum is on holiday until tomorrow, my OH has been tidying up her garden each evening. It has got lots to be sorted, as its not really been touched since my dad passed away 2 years ago. He going to remove some stray brambles, so they don't scratch my mum and also some ivy that's taking over. She should be happy when she gets back. We will be doing this garden for a good few weeks yet.

Well I must get things sorted here, do a bit of housework and hop in the shower. Have a good day everyone x

If it was me, I would report to higher management.
I have a issue with drinking, I believe its because whilst i was growing up my mum faced a slight issue (I'm a drama queen and would say it was more major than minor) But if their sneeking off then clearly there is an issue arising.

Sometimes people find stress to hard to handle therefore go down the route of drinking to release the pressure. I'm not too sure what their job is, But it could cause further issues down the line now if not dealt with. Also i would be concerned how their getting to & from work also. Are they driving?

Unless your management, ect, I would have a chat with someone in a higher role who, should, be able to assist more directly.

    HTHS X & good luck.

    Beat Depression.

I agree Nutty, I would speak to the manager, unless you are very close to this person in which case I would want to give them a heads up that it was being noticed and couldn't continue without them getting into trouble.
  • What job is this person doing ?
  • Nuttyp, apologies for leaping in, and I realise that this might not be at all suitable for your mum, but your comment about your mum's garden really struck a chord with me.

My dad also passed away 2 years ago and his garden, especially his veg patch, had been his pride and joy. We (me, siblings and mum) weren't sure what to do as there was no way mum (in her 80's) could look after the garden on her own. We asked around for suggestions for gardeners, and whilst we were doing this we were contacted by one of the neighbours who we knew quite well. The neighbour had a much smaller garden and wanted an allotment but there was a massive waiting list and so wondered whether mum would be prepared to let him have a go at the veg patch. It worked wonderfully, he has the veg patch as his own space and in return he kept the rest of the garden tidy (he would do the "big" tasks, mowing the lawn etc and mum still enjoys pottering). It also means that there is someone going past the house into the garden most days and so they would spot anything amiss (useful when we are a couple of hours' drive away). I've heard of other people doing similar things and wondered if it might be a way forward for you?

Nutty I'm really angry about this issue at the moment and as I suspect my mother does the same with her little bottle of [STRIKE]water[/STRIKE] vodka I would say make sure you know for certain that there's alcohol being drunk, hold off for now with the reporting of that issue (unless machine operation is involved) until you have witness/proof but report the swearing at customers because that is fact and hopefully being pulled up for that may be the warning that it won't go unnoticed if that behaviour continues at work.

By reporting suspected drinking in the workplace you're placing another persons job in real jeopardy. That is why I say make sure you know for certain, not just suspect but if they were drinking on the job I would support you in reporting it. You can't turn a blind eye on it and I'm just waiting for SHTF with my own mother regarding this. Nutty it isn't on my conscience with my own mother, don't let that person's behaviour be on yours. Nothing is your fault whether you report or not :)

Sardines does anyone know if Aldi/Lidl sell the tinned variety and for how much? Found it for 50p in Tesc0 and was wondering if I can source it for any cheaper, although I suspect I'm grasping at straws!

Bought a tall tupperware pot this morning. DH has been buying the pots of porridge for his breakfast at £1 a shot  He's getting ready made from now on, now I know. I needed a tall pot so it wouldn't overspill in the microwave. Men! £20 a month for porridge when a bag of oats cost £ for the month. Flaming 'eck

Thankyou for the replies everyone, Mums garden is just borders so we are weeding, laying down weed barrier and putting wood chips on as it looks more natural - woodland type thing. She started doing the garden with us a few weeks back, so she is aware that we are doing it but doesn't know how much ahs been done while she is away.

Re WORK, she cycles to work. We work with the gambling industry, so on the premises makes it a criminal matter more seriously than other times. The license can be revoked. This isn't the first time, but I am getting more worried. She also took one of the customers to her house for well no diagrams needed. I have left a message with our area manager, but I am acting manager when im on shift. I do wonder if she needs help, but obviously I cant deal with her problems. I have bad days myself so offloading is needed im afraid.

Well ive text our area manager, and left a detailed account. We will see what happens, I would have spoken but I thought writing it down was easier, so nothing is forgotten.

Thankyou again for your help x

Wood chips are fantastic! I've been lucky enough to get piles of them for free and they make a huge difference to keeping the weeds down. Good luck with the renovation/taming of the garden.

    Morning All

Another lovely day here, as there is a sea breeze it is not too hot. Yesterday in town was 32 deg - as we drove home the temp dropped to 22 deg so just goes to show the effect of being by the coast - and I love it. When we lived in London I used to find sleeping in the hot weather very difficult, but here there does not seem to be all that oppressive heat, so sleep comes easier.

Nutty - as an ex manager of staff, I can say that you have done the right thing. This person is putting themselves at risk by drinking, and potentially compromising the business. It can be hard to accept that you may be affecting someone's livelihood, but if they do something whist you are in charge you could be sanctioned too.

Mar - was that a low carb scone by any chance? :D

Our Mr M is currently doing rolled pork shoulder for £2.49 kg, we buy it for roasting but is also good in curries and such. I buy a whole shoulder and cut it into portions and freeze it - this one will cut into four joints, and do us 2 or three meals each time, so not bad for £12!

Pooky - (((hugs))) for poorly puss!
