Afternoon all
Kidkat - Glad DS is feeling a little better now - shame your parents had to spoil your rest time. Hope they ease off.
SQ - I know what you mean about "glowing" - I feel fresh as I step out the shower and then before I can dry off and get dressed I'm back to a sticky mess. There's a nice sea breeze here today so I've go the front and back and side windows open - there's one point in the house that the breezes cross and it's bearable.
I've been out in bursts trying to sort out my back garden after the builders left yesterday - they cleaned up as well as they could but it's going to take weeks for all the mortar dust to go. Got the outside of the back and conservatory windows cleaned (bribed DD2 to clean the wooden venitian blinds) so just the inside of the windows to do later when it's cooler.
DD2's interview went well this morning - they'll let her know in the next few days but there's a couple of positions in come up in the store so fingers crossed. Whilst she was in there I popped into Mr A's just as they'd done the YS meat section. Lots of bargains now bagged in portion sizes in the freezer.

Standard phone answer in the boult household is
'hello, loonie bin here, inmate talking, do you want to come and play?':o£71.93/ £180.000 -
My Dad used answer the phone sometimes with 'Joe Bloggs Home for Wayward Girls - do you have one you can send me?' Usually when he knew it was me callingSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

When my Mum rings Oh shouts 'its the old bag from Bolton' luckily she laughs!
Kidcat, you have so much on your plate and yet have calmly dealt with it. Your time at home was for you and your little family not for people who should know better - it makes my blood boil that your parents are so d*mned inconsiderate and if your Dad is a minister his people skills are atrocious
Just too hot here to do anything outside apart from water myself and the plants - base of plants only not leaves you know. If your leaves look shrivelled its just them protecting their roots. Did manage to transplant 6 out of 48 lavender seedlings earlier. Oh relaxing in bed where its vaguely cooler. Dgs is off to Mummys friends for tea where he can play in her shady garden with her little girl and sit in the paddling pool - and Mummy can relax, gab and recover from her day of slavery at Mr M!Clearing the junk to travel light

Glad DS is a bit better this afternoon kidcat
As for your parents - I don't condone violence but I really feel they deserve a virtual custard pie each. Maybe it was a good thing to loose your temper today? Take the annoyance THEY caused out on THEM rather than on your good self or someone at home.
Good to hear that DD's interview went well Pooky.
RAMBLE ALERT!
Had a mixed afternoon. DS7's first holiday activity today. He hasn't been to one for a year because he gets too anxious beforehand, This year he comes to me with the forms and insists he wants to go so we sit together to choose. I check again nearer the time and then book. I thought deep down he wouldn't go but wanted to give him a chance.
He was so keen that I thought the excitement would carry him IFYKWIM but it was no go today. He had a tummy ache which is the classic sign but he happily walked there until we got to the building of course. I knew if he didn't go today, it would be near impossible to go to the other days.
The staff at the booking-in were of no support and looked incredulous when I asked them to cancel today and the rest of the activities (with an explanation) - not something I do lightly or in temper. I know DS won't go now and no point in dragging him to another for him to get upset. At least we have freed up some spaces for any children on the waiting list (shame I lost the money never mind only £14 in total). I could feel some of the other parents (none of which we knew - from different schools) staring though I no longer give a fig about any of that.to them, how judgemental!
No point in making DS feel bad about it, not his fault at 7 years old. I wouldn't have fancied spending 2 hours at that age with a big group of children I didn't know from Adam either. so we walked a bit further to the shops, had a pudding in a quiet caf!, bought a bag of groceries and walked back home. DS10 was the same and still is to an extent but is now self confident at school, happily goes to friends' homes and although anxious at the idea of parties will no longer stop him going. DS7 will get there in his own time too.
sorry for the very long ramble, just needed to talk with people who "get it"
off to rustle up some sort of easy kids' tea, thinking something on toast for a change

SQ hugs, you did the right thing for your DS, never mind what the staff thought. You know what's best for him:T
Aah, kidcat, glad your DS is a little better but sorry for the hassle you've had. Hope they get the message.
Soooooo hot here - probably not the best day to bake breadsticks. But they're out of the oven now, taste scrummy and have used up some yeast that was getting a bit old. Planned to whizz up some hummus to go with them but too hot to drag the food processor out of the cupboard. Maybe later....
Have a good evening all, stay cool.0 -
SQ you're very sensible to listen and act for DS7, there is no point whatsoever in forcing the issue and what other people think is of no relevance, you are right and a very good and understanding parent. He will definately, as you so sagely know, get there in his own time. Have yourselves a lovely summer break doing the things you know they can cope with and that make them, and therefore you too happy!!! well done petal, good parenting!!!0

I once answered the phone "Naughty Nancy's Knicker factory!" to my brother's driving instructor! - It could have been worse, it could have been someone from County Hall for my Dad who I may now have to deal with as a responsible representative of our parent carer forum!
Evening all - hope the summer "holiday" is going ok for any of you who've had kids off this week. Mine finished last Friday so nearly a week already. Monday we had my parents round for the day, bbq for lunch and very nice it was too. Tuesday we used their Merlin passes to go to Alton Towers - had a great time, although I wish the drive home could have been shorter as DD was past herself tired. Wednesday was trike riding in the park and today we've been to their favourite farm park. Off to Harewood tomorrow using the MAX card (kidcat, have you got one of these? they are great if you can find out who is distributing them in your area. They started out just for looked after kids but have extended to any with SEN/disabilities).
Roll on next week when stay and play starts - they don't half take some occupying.
Also had speech and lang for little man and she raised his auty traits - if it wasn't for the Joubert's/visual impairments we would need to be looking more seriously at assessment but autistic traits are a noted part of Jouberts - DS just seems to have more than his big sister. So will leave it in the background as 'something to be aware of'. She was however very pleased with how much more communicative he was than the last time she saw him.
Thinking of Manna (ETA - or even Monna!!) and hope her packing is going ok.
Take care all - X0 -
thanks so much alfsmum and Lynn, just what I needed to hear. There can be a lot of pressure as a parent to take your children to lots of different activities and clubs. Some kids thrive on that of course and some don't. I went to lots as a young child and was still painfully shy so it didn't help me in that respect. We will have our own fun as we always do and meet up with friends and invite their friends over so they will get to socialise.
DSs and I had a great conversation on our walk home today about poverty and the gap between rich and poor (sparked by issues in Rio.) They are aware how lucky we are in the developed world with clean running water, healthcare, education etc compared to many parts of the developing world. Their understanding of the issues for their age was excellent, so proud of that.
What a fab week you have had stiltwalker and great re DS's communication.
until tomorrow
