  • Morning Toughies, showery here today and the garden is looking greener for the extra water and my redcurrants are starting to show some colour so netting them was a success. He Who Knows has gone to the lottie to plant out some leek seedlings and see if there are any ripe raspberries, we had the first few a couple of days ago when we walked down in the evening to give the Lurcha a stretch. He's taken a big bag of french beans from the polytunnel down for the nice ladies who live in the sheltered housing complex that backs on to the allotments, I saw one of them the other day and she was very happy as we gave them some raspberry canes in the autumn and she'd just harvested the first picking of fruit from them and shared it with her friend who lives above her in one of the flats. They have very limited grounds and folks on the allotments usually pop surpluses into a bag that is hung from the back fence for them to use, my friend loves beans and it's good to share, she'll spread them around amongst the others too which is nice.

Zebra is enjoying Glastonbury and having a lovely time chatting with people. He went to see Elbow and the Kings of Leon last night and they sensibly stayed up on the hill above the Pyramid Stage out of the crowds. DD says there are many tents you can get into in the daytime if the weather is bad and they were lucky enough to be in the acoustic tent yesterday when the power went off listening to Fishermans Friend and the group came down into the audience, spread out amongst them and continued performing until the power was back on, baby loved it!!!

I'm off on the bus to my local greengrocer for some nice fruit when He Who Knows gets back and a quick pop into W8rose to see if there are any decent reductions that we can have during the week. I'm also going to treat us to a nice joint of brisket from the butcher this weekend to cook in the slow cooker tomorrow and then to have sliced and reheated in gravy a couple of times next week, delicious!!!

Have a good day and stay dry folks, Lyn xxx.

    Afternoon all,

We had a fruitful day of shopping--a couple of months worth of toiletries from S@vers and several CS finds, as well as a pair of shoes for me bought ex-display. Some of it wasn't planned for today, but I've a mental list of things I'm looking out for and ticked several of them off at once. Its £4 train fair for both of us to get there--so we try to make the most of it when we do. Among my finds was a new (or nearly new!) rain jacket made by that very fancy ski company. My current one is on its last legs so it was on the long-term to find list. OH says this brand retails for around £100  Needless to say I didn't pay anywhere near that in the CS! Plus its a lovely bright raspberry colour.:D

It hasn't been particularly bright here, but I think we may just have managed to get a wash dry on the line. Of to check in a moment and then try some 30 minute yeast rolls to go with the ratatouille for dinner. No idea if they'll turn out but worth a go. Might try to pop a cake or something into the oven as well although can't think what to make just yet.

We've had no rain here - it's gone very dark and threatening in the past 20 mins or so, so maybe we might get some - my water butts are empty and my garden really needs a soaking.

Quiet day here, lots of teenagers with poorly heads after last nights ball. I've been crocheting and making plans for decorating - lots of work to get done in the next few months, I'm going to decorate the living room/study and downstairs loo, getting the upstairs radiators replaced and 2 new ones added, going to get the hall/stairs/landing decorated (going to pay someone to do that as I just can't reach) and need to get the back of the house repointed. The damaged kitchen ceiling needs sorting (I can do that) and I want to get new stair carpet. I've got a budget so I now need to stick to it! Wish me luck.

I've just made a lasagne for dinner so whilst it bubbles away in the oven I shall go pick paint colours!

  • Congratulations to Burtha on your new grandchild.
We are just back from a few days holiday in the sun, feeling refreshed and batteries re-charged. Lots of washing to be done though but very rainy day here so hope to get it out on the line tomorrow, then just the pesky ironing to do! Have a nice evening everyone.

Just wanted to pop in and say these bread rolls worked well. The recipe certainly needed adjusting in terms of flour amounts (but I think anyone experienced with bread will just know what to do about that), and I did bake them longer than it said but they're lovely--soft and similar to a hamburger bun in texture. A tiny bit sweet but I guess that comes with the territory of a fast yeast bread! Certainly worth having in your repertoire! They made our simple ratatouille into a really nice meal tonight.

Good to know the little guy is getting the treatment he needs. Try and get a picture of him in his googles under the lamp. My now 25 yo nephew loves the one of him under the lamps.

Fishermen's Friend. Made me laugh. It's the name of terribly nasty cough drop here in Canada. Horrible. But if the group makes Zebra happy...

Had a horrible day at work. Three of us literally were beaten up by an 84yo dementia patient. One of my coworkers went home with a handprint on her face and neck from getting slapped by the "old dear". It was loud, hard slap. The rest of us were only slapped and nipped while looking after her. Nurses and aides that work in dementia facilities are true saints. We are literally counting the hours until we can send her back. But after chatting with the nurses who look after her (we wanted to know if this was normal) they may not take her back as these "behaviours don't meet our mandate" Well getting the stuffing knocked out of you on a surgical ward isn't in our mandate.

    End of rant.

Mr. Collie did well on the charity dog walk. Was hugged by children and had his picture taken and may be a cover dog model for the charity as he is one of their success stories. Just think my dog may become a celeb!
