Good to hear that you are feeling better after your sinus op, Shegar. Hope your sister is OK.

Kidcat: It's amazing what new furniture does for a room. Enjoy it, you've earned it.

I've suddenly panicked because time is rushing on and hardly anything has been done towards the packing up for a couple of weeks. (Since the Rev has been home. Funny that.) Spent today in my bedroom trying to sort out clothes. How can one not-very-interested-in-appearance, elderly, no, let's be honest, OLD person accumulate so many clothes? An addiction to charity shops may have something to do with it. I have sorted some out to go back to the CS's and some to the clothing skip, but not nearly enough. And how come when I am asked out I still don't have quite the right outfit to wear? Answer comes there none. I can be absolutely ruthless with some things but not with clothes. Or books. Or cooking utensils. Or pretty china...........

Tomorrow is another day and I will work on my de-cluttering frame of mind overnight.

I'd love a house with hardly anything in it, just deep cosy wool carpets and huge comfy chairs/beds... and 2 laptops, 1 for spare!). I like space. The only things I have loads of are books and plants. I throw everything out and RV finds it and brings it back in again.

    Morning all,

Kidcat, enjoy! Let us know when the first spill or mess has happened and you finally relax! They will be lovely to look at in the mean time but I think I'd be on edge.

Monnagran, I have a similar line up of weaknesses.

Shegar, it is nice to hear from you and I hope all goes well for your sister.

McCullough that is a relief. It sounds uncomfortable, but probably less so when you know what it isn't.

I tried out the pressure cooker last night to make some rice. It ended up cooked, although I think I may have over-cooked it. It was a bit starchy and gloopy, but then I'm used to using the method of cooking rice that doesn't involve straining. The weigt on top never actually started turning, so it was difficult to be precise with timing. Never mind, it produced something edible and seems simple enough. I'm sure I'll be used to it in no time.

I've a work meeting today that I'm not looking forward to, but a friend has agreed to meet me for lunch after. He and his girlfriend are visiting one of the places I lived as a child this summer so plenty to chat about.

    Hugs to all.x

    Morning Toghies!

I am afraid the aquisition of the hound has left me somewhat knackered (no other way to describe it!), so have not been up to anything much to report!

Glad things are going well for you Shergar, and x fingers for your sis.

We seem to be going through a bit of a time with the dread C word, OH best friend from work lost her husband unexpectedly at the weekend, he was being treated for bowel cancer but died suddenly from a perforated bowel. I really did not realise how quickly that can kill. Also another friends husband has been dianosed the same thing, and a third friend is undergoing treatment for breat cancer. All our age, so it does bring you up short.

Well done for getting rid of the old sofas Kidcat, I have one I need to tackle, tools at the ready!

FPK, I don't find rice cooks too well in a PC, it cooks too quickly (maybe brown rice would be ok?). Even in my electric PC, 4 mins is too long!

I cook rice in a saucepan, bung it in with 1.5 times the volume of rice in water. Bring to the boil, cook until most of the water has evaporated and there are little pits in the top of the rice. Turn off, cover with a teacloth then bung on the lid. Leave for 20 mins, but will keep warm and nice for quite a while. Dry, fluffy rice, dead easy! this may be how you do it, I don't think there is a better way to get nice dry rice!

  • Good afternoon.

Sorry I've been MIA a while but RL has interrupted my forum time. Also been crocheting like mad in every spare minute as this shawl I'm making is taking forever. Finally have just one more pattern repeat to go. Just as well - friend's birthday is on Thursday.

I had my first B12 injection yesterday - hope it wasn't that which gave me a sleepless night. Another injection tomorrow and Friday then start again next week - though the Bank Holiday has messed up the tidy schedule the practice manager created!:D

    Bye for now.
Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.
  • Well done AOL so pleased you have started your injections, I am sure you will soon feel the benefit.

You know about schedules they are meant to be messed up:)

    Onwards and upwards

Mrs Chip, yes that is normally how I cook rice, I just thought it would be a nice (and cheap!) first experiment with the PC. Good to know it isn't just me! Originally it was to be brown rice but I realized at the last minute we were out. I suspect it would work a bit better.

Sounds like my house mar, I love not having too much cr*p in the house, you can always find things much easier when you dont have much, plus side is your house keeps cleaner without clutter..........Ive only got one carpet in the whole of the place and thats in the bedroom , just feels so much cosier when you get up in the mornings, but most of my floors are wooden and tiled, carpets do tend to hold all sorts of smells.........

AOL........Did your dr test you for vitamin B deficiency ?, I ask cos my lips constantly dry out , im always using vaseline, blistex , etc and I read that it could be a lack of vitB............

I had my mammogram on April 17 and today I got a letter back to say all is ok, the 2 small lumps I have are cysts and were there when I had my last test which was 3 years ago, so thank god all is well.....

    Catch you all later ..Sheila

AOT - so glad you managed to get your treatment underway

Sheila - wonderful news, having had a mammogram recently, I still wince at the thought, I think if men had to have a mammogram of their bits, the process would change pretty quickly, :)

Been very busy again today, with two governors meetings, kids homework etc. Looking forward to collecting kitty tomorrow morning :)
