FP you can buy a gas detector that you plug in and leave, maybe that would give peace of mind.

    Morning all,

Nuatha you always seem to pop in with very useful information. I've seen it several times on a couple of threads. Just wanted you to know someone noticed that you're a very kind person.:D

    :o
I tend to lurk on the tough threads, but if I can help I will post.
Frequently the thread moves too quickly for me to regularly participate in the conversations, so I tend to cheer from the sidelines.
Thank you for your kind words

Thanks Mar. We have one for carbon monoxide, will look into it. We aren't normally this paranoid, honest!
  • Morning Toughies wet and grey here today and we have a lurcher who is, I think, stiff backed. He's doing pretty well for a 10 year old but these days if he's got wet several times in a week he gets a bit creaky poor old lad so he's out for a limited walk with his Dadi and instructions to keep him on the lead not let him off to be a hooligan like he normally is!!! Been having a kitchen shelf sort out and currently soaking several batches of dried beans to be cooked and popped into the freezer, I do them in the pressure cooker and it only takes 20 minutes then I dry them off completely spread out on baking trays before bagging them up and freezing. Works out much cheaper than the same number of tins. I've found a couple of dodgy looking beans with what might be unhatched weevils in them so those jars have been binned. Might be a good time to check stocks both in jars and in store as it's apparently 'that' time of year and an infestation of beasties will decimate dried stored goods very quickly, Lyn xxx.

When our DD dropped round with our Easter eggs last week she remarked that she could smell gas. We couldn't, but we do have carbon monoxide alarms which are working fine.

Do we need a gas detector as well? I thought the carbon monoxide alarms would be sufficient, but perhaps they only detect fumes from the boiler. Does anyone know?

We do very occasionally get a smell of gas in the kitchen cupboard where the gas pipe comes into the house. Then the smell goes away again. Weird!

kidcat :mad:at your parents for turning up unannounced! Hope your poor head is continuing to feel better.

Mrs LW Sorry poor old Docky is stiff today :( This weather doesn't help! Please give him a "love" from me.

Mrs LW - I was only looking at my big jar of beans yesterday thinking they need cooking up - I don't have a pressure cooker (they scare the beeejeeesus out of me) so I need to wait for a nice day to have the doors and windows open to let out all the steam that cooking them on the hob creates.

I shall have check for beasties first - I've never found anything lurking in my dried stuff and don't really want any added protein.

Waiting for DD2 so we can go out for a while, she asked me to rag roll her hair last night as she wants to try some new styles out for prom - this morning she had beautiful ringlets but hated it on sight and has brushed them all out and shoved it up in a ponytail!!! Grrrrr - took me ruddy ages too.

Roast veg and pork steaks for lunch....I could eat it right now, I'm starving this morning.

Nuatha Thank you for the advice. Will root in shed for some more tools before I begin.

Mrslw poor lurcher we used to give our dog cod liver oil capsules with his breakfast which send to help loads until he became wise and managed to spit then out somewhere.

Ivy Thank you it has lifted alot but still lurking.

Pooky ouch at the time taken but at least you have knocked one style off the list :)

Off to do quick shop this morning. Dragging OH with me as my coordination is off then back here to cook and empty living room. OH announced last night that we would start about 5pm to get to tip before 6pm. I laughed and put my foot down and said we would stay at 2pm as I don't want to be left having to to the tip by myself tomorrow.

Possession I went onto the "In My Home" board to see if you had any replies yet, and your post had slipped onto page 2, so I've "bumped it", hope that's okay and that you'll get some replies.

Better paranoid than dead Fairy Princessk, about 12-13 years ago I lost friends to carbon monoxide posining, because of that I got detectors for my family and OH's, turn's out both OH and Mum's house had faulty boiler's.

I have separate smoke detector in the hall for the coal stove, and a gas one next to the cooker. Think you need a gas one specifically. I need mine because I have a calor gas cooker and the pipe comes in the kitchen wall, I'm always paranoid about calor gas.
