Potatoes are expensive here as well. Believe it or not food in Europe is cheaper than here in Canada. Lamb is rarely affordable, bread has doubled in price in the last year (and I live in a wheat producing province).
Most of the snow has melted off the roads in the last week. Just as the City finally announced that the graders would be coming into the neighbourhoods to sort out the ice.
It's supposed to snow again of Friday. There are days that it feels like the start of a new Ice Age.
Fuddle, I rarely iron my uniforms. I find that by the time I've driven to work and walked for five minutes from the parking to my ward, I'm creased beyond belief. Cotton is not my friend.0 -
Stilty, how beautiful that little miss said Thank you. You are so like my DD she doesnt care about anything as long as Dgs is happy.
Wondercollie, do you get the sun eventually or is it perpetual winter? We had a few days of sun last week and it was so nice to be warm and comfortable for a while.
Dgs has taken to some filled baked potatoes from Mr M and while I dislike buying stuff like that he relishes them so I tried them last weekend and they were yummy, 4 smallish spuds for £1.35. Anyway am going to re-create them myself as soon as I find big spuds for a decent price.
Have been bad all day with a migraine. Oh's lunch wasnt a problem as he went to Dd's so I could sleep but when it came to tea I thought of getting him a chippy tea - the pennypincher in me was annoyed so I grabbed frozen cooked carrots and onions from the freezer, chucked in a pack of mince I had defrosted and peeled some spuds. I just left it ticking over for an hour and had a big pan of tater hash rather than regrets at wasting money. Getting food down him is a problem and didnt want to resort to the easy route knowing he would be hungry if he smelled the stew cooking.Clearing the junk to travel light

Hello everyone
I just wanted to pop on to share some good news
Firstly.......I've found my sapphire ring!!!! it was sitting on the bookcase that DH and I had both searched, next to a picture frame that DH knocked over three days ago and he didn't see it then. I'm so relived. I didn't stop shaking for an hour after I found it.
Second....my DMIL doesn't have shingles and it looks like whatever she has isn't going to stop her from having her much needed knee replacement in two weeks time. (The GP doesn't know what it is, but DMIL is very awkward when it comes to medical things)
Last and best of all......I'm going to be an Auntie againMy DSister is having another baby and is due in October. I've told her I need someone to buy pink stuff for this time.
So all in all, it has been a wonderful day. I also got two gorgeous formal dresses from work today for two weddings I know I'm going to in the next 18 months. So that worry is sorted for much less money than DH was expecting. Of course I haven't found shoes and handbags yet *insert a wicked grin here please*
So much love and hugs to everyone and may you all have as good a day very soon xxxx0 -
SDG Glad your getting some good luck, long may it continue
I'm currently not talking to my Mother and it is Mothers day soon so I'm at a bit of a loss of what to do. I know people would give their right arm (or any other body part) to see their Mother again but my Mum is not a very nice person.
Apart from having a very, very bad child hood she comes out with the most poisonous, untrue comments. While at my DGD Christening she went up to DH and told him I was only after his money :eek:
I have yet to find any :rotfl: We had not been together long and I have always worked so I don't know what provoked that comment.
When she asked how I met him (through a mutual friend) she told me he must have slept with her  Plus a thousand more cutting comments of equal nastiness.
My brother on the other hand waited on hand and foot and his word is gospel. I find it hard when it comes to Mothers day as everyone misses their Mum and I only visit out of guilt and then it makes me miserable for days.

SDG that is just the best news, I'm sure there is an alternative universe where things go to when you just can't find them and then they get bored over there and just pop back, such a relief for you!!!
GINNY hope you're feeling better today and that your migraine has totally gone, have an easy day just in case.
Off to Oma duties again today but just overnight as DD didn't feel ready to be alone overnight and D SIL has a 2 day conference to attend, so Zebra squishing will be the order of the day and I'll be chief cook and bottle washer too and I'll be back home tomorrow evening, look after yourselves, Lyn xxx.0 -
Sdg wonderful news
Pic I have the same problem. I now have settled on not visiting on the day itself. We c Will pop in the day before with a generic gift from the children and a very carefully worded card. No "best mother in the world" type thing. Simple happy mothers day. Then on the day we will do something without her spoiling it for us.
Mrslw have a wonderful time
So busy at moment. Will pop in later to catch up properly.0 -
SDG whose picture was it the the ring was found beside?
PIC lots of people in here will know exactly how you feel. Mothers are not all nice homely cuddly best friends.0 -
Lovely to read all your good news SDG.
Had another work issue yesterday, it's getting so I don't want to open emails from my boss these days.I wish I could stop but I will never find a job where I work from home and pays London salary. So I should remember how lucky I am and stop moaning, eh?
It was DD's birthday yesterday and all went well - I even survived the sleepover at the weekend although it would have been nice if they had slept more than 4 hrs!0 -
Morning all, have to sort some more stuff for the car boot tomorrow. beginning to wonder how I amassed so much stuff!! DD has just called she has been accepted onto the housing scheme so she will the proud owner of half a house. It will mean a forever home, and they will be able to decorate etc.
I popped into work to check everything is ok for me to have all of next Thursday off, and its all sorted. 2 other members of staff have handed their notice in, so we will be back to the normal 3 staff. I expect I will be doing a few extra hours overtime. Fingers crossed I can cope with it all.
Well must get on, take care all xBSC member 137

Sdg what a relief! and good news flowing for you, babies and dresses!
Pic, Just post a card and ignore her for a while if possible. You can't choose your mum and you dont deserve caustic comments. Somewhere along the line, probably many years ago, someone let her get away with her comments for an easy life and you are paying for it. Hubby had 2 maiden aunts who made my life a misery for years and their passing set me free, despite nursing them both I was still badly thought of.
Feeling a tad fragile today but am migraine free and long may it lastTaking it easy and pottering while hubby sleeps, have got plenty to be getting on with
Lyn its terrible when you have to force yourself to go all that way to see your Dgs :rotfl: Oh for wings to fly fast and simply to our darling boys. I cant get over mine sitting snuggled up saying 'Grandma' several times in a questioning way then giggling - it will never get old, the cheeky monkey.
Just waiting for the postman as he should be delivering my Penny pincher re-visited book -1p from Amaz*n. The writers John and Irma Mustoe are dear friends of mine though we lost touch some years ago and I used to write articles for their magazine, I was paid with a free magazine which suited my circumstances at the time. They inspired me to the life I lead and are wonderful people. they were on a tv programme many years ago on money saving and I cant for the life of me remember the name but Irma was famous for making Johns underpants herself - Scrimpers - thats what it was called. It was the first time I had seen people who had stock cupboards and made things themselves.Clearing the junk to travel light
