  • FUDDLE hope your ankle isn't too painful lovie, if you have a £1 shop anywhere near you might find some relief for your injury if they have a cold spray you could use on it. DD1 is prone to that type of mishap and swears by them, Lyn xxx.

Hi all, finally back from the mammoth trip out. went into mr a home store and they had some t towels for 75p, but they scanned at £4, sureley people don't pay that. We managed toget 80 toilet rolls for £6.99 - bargain as it all ends up down the loo.
OH has cans of drink, well 2 a day with him. He doesn't stop at the garage as they are nearly 70p each. I got 2 cases from the c&c, enough for a couple of months easily.

My post was of 2 charity bags, and some random leaflets. I know charities need donations, but these collect and give a set amount per tonnage of clothes received. I wonder if the actulay do get the cash? Needless to say I will give my items direct to the shops.

next week is aldi voucher day, so will be doing a little shop.

    take care all x

I agree Lyn, the first Jocasta Innes Paupers' Cookbook was better. I still make many of the recipes from that. Particularly onion, bacon and potato hotpot. I'm not sure if I got any recipes from the 'New' one. It was a library sale bargain, so cost me either 50p or a quid.
I think I bought The Pauper's Cookbook in a YMCA bookshop in an Army barracks abroad, about 30 years ago.
Lyn, if you want to replace it, there is a brand new edition of the original out. http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Paupers-Cookbook-Jocasta-Innes/dp/0711235619/ref=reader_auth_dp

Potatoes. I have followed Jack Monroe's tip and bought tinned potatoes several times recently. It occurred to me that I could use them for Jocasta's recipe of onion, bacon and potato hotpot and make it in a far more cost-effective way by pre- cooking the bacon and onion, layering as usual with sliced tinned spuds and then pouring the cheese / white sauce over as per usual.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.
  • Thanks McCULLOCH I'll take a look and order one, Lyn xxx.
  • Does anyone know what has happened to the ignore list option when you click on a user name? I'm not wanting to use it but I've noticed it's gone as an option, anyone know why? Lyn xxx.

Took the kids out for treat this evening - our favourite Indian place is doing a cheap all you can eat buffet this week so we decided to treat the kids - DS just added it to the (loooonng) list of things he's slept through, having some starter then deciding to drop of with his head on the table! DD polished off her starters then started to pinch bits off mine despite me telling her we could go and get more if she wanted - oh no then she decided to sit on my knee so she could make a better job of stealing my dinner! My shins are going to be bruised to bits tomorrow as the whole time she was doing this happy little jig on my lap with her feet going everywhere. She decided she wanted to stay on my lap for mains (probably as she was tired and felt more stable rather than sitting on the chair but there was definitely no dissuading her!) she polished off half a nan and lots of chicken tikka masala and chicken pudina - I didn't get much trying to eat round her but never mind - she was having so much fun! Then she polished off a plate of fruit just to finish off with, then as if she hadn't charmed them enough already she took her talker and said "thankyou thankyou goodbye" on her way out!

    Take care all - X

I think Frugal Queen did a couple of blog posts about ready made jacket potatoes and came to the conclusion they could be cost effective. I'm not sure she'd have bought them if it hadn't been a sponsored post but she certainly didn't write them off
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
  • PIC wouldn't dream of even trying to block you, or anyone else on here if it comes to that. I just noticed the change in the options box and I'm a nosy enough person to wonder why??? Has there been any message about it that I've missed?
