Evening All
Well done Fuddle for standing your ground - not sure what they expect parents to do?
It was a gloriously sunny day here and we had the chance to have a quick walk on a beach that was scoured in the storms, to see the remains of a sunken forest that has been exposed. Quite amazing to see wood and peat that was covered by the sea about 6000 years ago!
I heard a lovely story today. We went to see a gentleman who is 95. He lives on his own now, and still does most things for himself, cooking , shopping and all the houshold stuff. We were going to give him a Kobo e-reader to try as part of an initiative from the library. He told us that his bank phoned him last Friday to ask him if it would be ok if they sent him a present as all the ladies at the branch wanted to say thank-you to him for being such a lovely customer, and today a big box of chocolates arrived, courtesy of the Nat West Bank! How lovely, I have never heard of such a thing happening!Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
Evening all, well tonight was very scary and daunting. found out about more the different options available. The students also have a chance to do an a level at the same time as gcses.
We know ds1 has to do triple science, eng lit / lang, maths, p.e, so for his options he's thinking gcse resistant materials, gcse computing and btec engineering. So were going to have another chat over, the weekend. Ds1 s thinking of maybe taking history or french instead.
Ds2 enjoyed being with his grandad and played army together and watched you've been framed.
We were only there an hour so got back by to my dads by half seven.
Ended up buying chips for tea as oh and ds1 were starving.
Seeing the gp counsellor tomorow feeling nervous again. But should be fine its just filling out forms, oh how thrilling not.0 -

I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
It's freezing here again. The windchill was -39C and the good news is: it's going to warm up enough to snow! I cannot wait for spring.
Youngest is working on a snow removal crew this winter and looks like the Michelin Man with a ski mask when he leaves for work. He's decided his interests don't lie in university but either the military or the police. So he's off to an information evening next week on the RCMP. His godfather is a member, so a great reference right there. He just doesn't like horses! But as the godfather keeps telling him, you only go near a horse if you ask for it. Since his godfather is 6'4, 250lb Mountie, there is no chance of a horse other than a Clydesdale for him and that would never happen.
The husband is officially retired. I keep turning around and there he is. He doesn't mind helping but he hasn't got a clue. It really is fine to use the hoover everyday and clean the bathroom if you have nothing else to do. He just doesn't get it. And add in he thinks he has to go everywhere with me. Is retirement grounds for divorce?0 -
It has come to my notice that one of our founder members has been receiving some rather unkind and certainly distressing PMs for some of the posts she has posted lately. I am quite disgusted that anyone could be so calculatedly cruel and cowardly enough to only say these things in PMs and not actually post on the thread. You will know who you are that has done this and I hope very much that you are ashamed of your actions. It's easy to hide behind anonymity and say things that you would not say face to face to anyone. I think that our member will NOT post again on this thread and it will be OUR loss due to YOUR actions. I take this opportunity to offer a huge apology to the person involved, from all of us regulars, I am devastated that you have suffered from the actions of this particular individual. I don't know who it is, but I find their actions totally unacceptable!!!0

Hope you both enjoy his retirementCarolbee0 -
Oh Lyn that is dreadful, why are some people so unkind?
I am sending hugs to the founder member, and so sorry you have had to endure the distressing PMs.
Much love

Woohoo, my lodger is moving out tomorrow so we'll get the house back to ourselves. It's been a long few weeks!!! She told us last night that she'd got the day off on Friday and would be packing and moving out in the morning, I wish her well in her new home and feel very selfish that her presence has been so disruptive in our lives. The most difficult thing has been trying to find meals that were acceptable to her and to He Who Knows so we've rather been living on nursery food for a while. Never mind, I'll not be on the receiving end of that slightly startled look and shudder that greeted my offer of Chocolate and Vanilla Croissants for breakfast this morning after this shall I? What on earth gets into people - we had bullying before, chasing away another poster, at least that was on the thread so we could all see the nasty nature of the posts and who whas doing it - those responsible are on my ignore list and will stay there. But to use PMs is both cowardly and unpleasant. We are all entitled to our opinions, and to disagree with those of others. If anyone finds it impossible to allow those differences and get along then really this is not the place for them.Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0

(((((Hugs))))) to the founder member from me too.
Lynn you are not selfish. It is different having a family member who grew up in your household to having a complete stranger living with you.
Wondercollie my dh retires in three years and I was dreading it. He happened to go with me on an education visit to the railway museum in York and he spoke to a man working on the flying Scotsman. He then said to me "That's what I would like to do"
The work is to last at least 10 years so I hope We can get him helping with that somehow.0
