how and where is this option available - why are you not making your customers (and your staff) more aware of it's existance

    ps please let Vodafone reply
so according to Silk this is off topic to this thread and wouldn't help the OP with future problems or prevent others from encountering a similar problem.

The real scandal is the ease with which 3rd party companies have premium services that the unwary can stumble upon and the collusion of the networks as they make money as well.

I recently got an OVIVO sim for my spare line. Took it overseas and it didn't work. When I got back, I rang OVIVO and they said that I had to opt IN for roaming.

If the same applied to premium services where people had to opt IN, then there would be no arguments. But, can't see it happening unless OFCOM got onto the case.

I this particular case, although my sympathies are obviously with mum and her daughter, I can't see what Vodafone have done wrong other than providing the network.

Any of the networks would have allowed the daughter to clock up the costs and, having made arrangements to pay off the debt by instalments, something they didn't need to do, then following the agreement should have been top priority.

it would appear this problem has been caused because her daughter had been 'signed' up to some expensive premium rate service.

in cases where vulnerable customers are concerned why isn't it company policy to advise them about the premium rate bar.

Where is this option advertised so parents can find?

    Hi wantmemoney,

Although there's no specific information regarding the the premium rate SMS bar, if you search for 'spam' on our website you'll come across useful a page covering the topic of dealing with nuisance calls and spam texts. Due to the posting guidelines which company representatives are required to follow I'm afraid I'm unable to link you to it directly.

In addition, we do encourage customers to monitor their usage either via My Vodafone on our website or through the My Vodafone app which can be downloaded from the various app stores around.

In this particular instance I'm hoping that the OP will return to the thread and get in touch with me so we can find out exactly what's happened.

    Kind regards,

    Lee

Don't be so pathetic, you know full well theres no lies posted by me so grow up and stop making a fool of yourself.
so according to Silk this is off topic to this thread and wouldn't help the OP with future problems or prevent others from encountering a similar problem.
As was explained the thread is regarding payment plans for debt however if you wanted to help the OP in the future you should have explained about the SMS premium barring.

Needless to say you chose not to and instead used the usual confrontation attack ....needless to say as Lee has responded here we are going to be discussin the barring on a thread entitled "Vodafone Vs A Learning Disabled Girl" :(

With due respect Lee the point wantmemoney is making is that it is not mentioned anywhere on the site that Voda offer the service ....it's been discussed on here may times and discussed on your forums too
At the time of the post that wantmemoney is talking about it was posted on other threads too and Epsi promised to chase up putting the information on the website .....
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=42430434&postcount=40
I will also be looking into the lack of information about this bar on customer facing websites. As I feel it would save a lot of confusion if we showed the information somewhere prominent, so thank you for bringing it to my attention.

If there is anything else I can do to help, please let me know. :D

It seems it can be done by Voda in other countries for example http://www.three.com.au/cs/ContentServer?c=Page&pagename=3CA%2FPage%2F3CAStatic&cid=1236150762406
Can I bar access to premium services?

You can BAR all Premium SMS and MMS services for free. This means that your mobile account will be barred from sending and receiving Premium SMS and MMS messages and you will not be charged for any of these services. No other services will be affected. We will bar all premium SMS and MMS services from your account within 1 Business Day of receiving your request. To bar call 133320 (Postpay) 131921 (Prepay) or 133103 (business) from your mobile to request to unbar and follow the prompts.

sorry but saying noone understands is very patronising plenty of people have family members with learning disabilities

all u had ot do was give her a payg phone she should still be rsponsible for topping up etc but wouldnt owe a large sum

Or even advise her to go for a capped contract, so that she couldn't spend to much . Tesco Mobile do them.
