If your friends or family live far away could they put some money in your paypal account? Could you quickly ebay something to get money in your paypal account.
I bet if you think about it you can make the food you have in the house stretch.
Post up here what you've got in the cupboards and freezer and i'll help you.Overactively underachieving for almost half a century0 -
You have the internet (obviously) Most areas have local buying and selling groups (so no need to fork out for postage like ebay) . It could be anything - a redundant chest of drawers, unwanted toys or children's clothes, tomato plants from your garden if you've grown a load from seed the picture Auntie Edna gave you that you've always hated etc etc . Most people will pick up same day or next day -problem solved.
Have a look on facebook and see what groups there are in your area (or post an ask - someone will recommend a local one)I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
I took a load of old clothing to one of those clothes wanted places. Some were fussy and wanted designer stuff only, but a few were happy to accept anything at all going by weight.
I got £22 for old tat that was only going in the bin. Could you maybe do that, OP?0 -
I had budgeted for emergencies however you do not expect a loved one to die and pay to visit for the journey into hospital.
My rant is about the fact that HMRC did not notify of the changes and just taking away funds is quite alright as far as they seem.
My budget is sufficient normally but having had to pay out for travelling costs and some funeral expenses - a plan had been in place but didn't cover the basic i.e. travel to cemetary - that is another story!!!0 -

With respect we are talking about the children going hungry because of £20.
Have you managed to raise £20?
If not have you called Social Services?

Do you have any Tesco clubcard vouchers, nectar points etc? I try and build up a supply so I know I can at least get some basics if I end up with no money.0

To be honest u should not rely on hmrc for paymemts especially this time of yr plus with all the changes they r making i have a family of 5 and 20 quid wud not last us a week u need to put money by for emergency as u can never rely on benefits and payment dates.0

And also, no one will be disiplined for this 'error' as the forms are scanned and not manually entered so its not a case of someones incompetence other than your own for not reading the renewals form correctly and informing HMRC of the changesNo One I Think Is In My Tree.:cool:0

ME: what do I do in the meantime, I have no money for food or fuel - was expecting £20. this was needed for food (family 0f 4) and fuel to get to work and children to school (they go 8 miles away from home not my choice local govt!!!)
HMRC: nothing we can do
If the local authority have decided to send your children 8 miles to school, then by law they have to provide transport for them Why aren't they doing that?Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
To be fair to the OP it does sound like she had an emergency fund but it was used up earlier this month. We can plan all we like but sometimes life throws us an extra "emergency" we just haven't planned for.
Having said that, I think talking about children starving for the sake of £20 is a bit extreme. I find it hard to believe that any household is incapable of raising £20 if they really need it. Some really good suggestions above. Sell/pawn jewellery? Take PS3/xbox to cash converters? Raid the kids piggy banks?0
