I am sure that Sky have said they will give a new HD+ box to those with old boxes BUT I am also sure that this would involve agreeing to a new 12 month contract which may not be a good idea if you are moving house soon.

They don't do this. My 8 year old box packed up and phoned expecting this offer and was quite willing to sign a new 12 month contract. Best they could offer me was £45 call out fee which might include new box if deemed necessary (which they said almost certainly would be with such an old box). Went with that. 11 months later that one packed up. Phoned again and was offered same deal. Complained that the new box should have a guarantee but apparently replacement boxes come with a reduced guarantee (3 months or perhaps 6). Got so annoyed I cancelled the whole thing.

Several months of increasingly desperate offers to "Come back to Sky" and I finally accepted an offer of £50 credit to my account, 3/4 reduction for a year on my package and no commitment to sign new contact. A package worth considerably more than what I originally wanted! Turned out to be a good move anyway as had to move country 3 months later and paid the princely sum of £2.20 or so which was all that was required after my £50 credit was used up - despite having the top package for 3 months. No cancellation charge.

So my advice to OP would be to register in new address as new customer. I doubt they'd notice the bank account be the same. Sky, like most companies, have no interest in offering deals to existing customers without you going on a merry dance.

After about 3 years with Sky, I was experiencing issues with the sky + box, kept overheating and wouldnt work for hours then be OK again.

I knew that I would have to pay call out fees to replace it and/or pay for a new box.

I looked at what Virgin Media were offering and found a similar package deal though slightly better as free HD.

I rang sky, explained the problems with the box and said I'd seen this deal with Vrigin and was thinking of leaving.... I even said that I didnt see the point of paying for new box when I can get the same deal/slightly better for same price.

Well of course they installed a brand new HD + box, not costing a penny and enabling us to get freeview HD channels.

My advice is to threaten to leave if you've been with them for over a year.... You have nothing to loose. If they say OK leave, then just say you will be back in touch once you know a switch over date, and of course dont.
  • No just move address and rejoin, BUT do it before the 27th. sky need as many customers as they can before the end of the year and the offers are better now than they will be for the rest of the year

The end of the year is six months away? Why is the "27th" significant? The "27th" of what month, by the way?

I'm with VM but never had to cancel. Just the suggestion that I will cancel gets me a discount however they get a 12 month contract from me which I think is fair, been with them since the Nynex days

Vigin actually require an eighteen month minimum term these days for any such discounts. I also think you'll find it more difficult to merely threaten to cancel in order to get discounts just now.

Most offers are for 6 months, so offering and getting a customer intake at end of june means youll likely have the customer base at the end of the year, as some revenue reporting and stats are taken as of 31/12 then they get the benefit of target meeting whilst capturing those people who dont re-negotiate a new deal into paying normal price come Jan-14.

That would be my logical interpretation of what he was trying to say, maybe way off the mark.

I don't see the logic at all, I'm afraid.
Why would Sky want an "intake" of customers at one time of year over any other? They want new customers all the time, surely?

Your comments make less sense to me than the Poster I was querying, I'm afraid.

Well YOU seem to know more than their HQ who phoned me with the deal. As I said I've been with them since the Nynex days so I thank you for putting me and their HQ right.

And yes I have their HQ email and phone number, I cant be bothered dealing with their callcentres

Depends how long ago you last had this deal renewed, expect the next one (should you get one) to require an eighteen month extension on your contract.

Regardless, I fail to see what this has to do with cancelling Sky and then re-joining?
