Them idiots who put them stupid big noisey exhausts on there silly cars.
When I hear one coming along I wish I could put one of them spike mats out.
They should be banned for being a nuisance and causing noise pollution.

I feel your pain! Living on a narrow (20mph) main road in a scenic village with narrow footpaths, for me it's the bikers that irritate the most. They seem to fall into a number of categories:
1. Large groups of bikers in a convoy with loud exhausts. Often taking several minutes to pass. I counted 62 bikes in a single convoy last night and that's not unusual for the summer months. These guys usually stick to the speed limit which is good: they want their mid-life crisis to be seen and heard by all!
2. Trials bikes (normally without lights or number plates) that wheelie up the hill as fast as they can to ensure they're not spotted operating an unlicensed vehicle on the highway. Usually the same group of people darting between green lanes near the village.
3. Moped-style scooters (invariably with L-plates) that speed through the village as fast as possible. They all seem to have these odd exhaust attachments, seemingly designed to make them as loud and buzzy as possible; presumably to irritate. These are the worst; you can hear them coming and going for AGES...
4. The law-abiding minority who stick to the speed limit and respect their surroundings and the people around them; they're welcome anytime!0 -
There are a number of reasons people do it.
I done it with my last car because the centre resonator / silencer kept catching on speed bumps and wrecking the standard exhaust.
So i got a custom exhaust made without the centre silencer but still with the back one. Quite a bit louder than standard, but doesn't catch on speed bumps anymore.
The other bonus is with the performance exhaust on a turbo diesel car is, it allows the car to produce more power at lower revs, can potentially be much healthier for the engine (no DPF to clog up / no CAT to cause the turbo to overheat) and also provides better fuel econemy.
In my defence, entering residential areas or when driving normally my exhaust wasn't loud in any way. Just a little burble. On the motorway, overtaking then it might be considered too loud for some people but still half as loud as the usual Civic exhaust. All your base are belong to us.0 -
We have a little chav who without fail, I'm guessing visiting his girlfriend's house, like clockwork every day on his trials bike razzes up and down the road (heavy residential). It is INCREDIBLY loud and he makes the utmost effort to make it as loud as possible.
I actually find it incredibly funny when people stick those exhausts on their cars and obviously think they're billy big balls when chances are all the cars around them are laughing at them.
We encountered one this morning in his middle management sports car who would get centimetres to the car in front and then pump the accelerator and it sounded pathetic.
We pulled up alongside him at lights and were in tears laughing. I don't think that's quite the effect he wanted.
Would've been even funnier seeing him try to go over a speed bump as I don't think there was a hand's width between the car and the road.0 -
They rev it on purpose becuase they think people are going "wow look at them that is so cool" in realisty we are saying "stupid ####er"0

I'm currently working in the Caribbean and huge exhaust pipes are extremely common there (quite often on very small engined cars).
In the area I live there are a number of quite severe speed bumps about 100 feet apart and it's quite funny to see these cars go hell for leather between the bumps then slow down to snail's pace and have to go over the humps at about 1mph and at an angle so they don't rip their exhaust off.0 -
We live just off of the high street in a very small and quiet town which 99% of the time is peaceful. However, around 7/8pm every night we get the boy racers with their rattly exhausts roaring up the high street and due to the way the buildings are on the high street the noise echoes for ages after they've raced off.
They also seem to enjoy using the loop our road and the high street form as their own personal race track :eek:0 -
There are two things being discussed here it seems.
People who drive without consideration of others around them.
And louder than standard exhausts.
You can fall into the former group, and not the latter and vice versa. All your base are belong to us.0 -

Then you would need to ban several trucks, sports cars, and motorcycles which come with loud exhausts fitted as standard. All your base are belong to us.0
