I think someone had said that it's not just the money that has been paid they can be liable for the cost for putting it right too, don't think anything will stop the moss from growing back as I don't think there is product that kills it completely, so think we're stuck with that part, but damaged roof or tiles could be what the claim company are hit with.
Personally my roof is okay apart from the fading coating and the fact the moss is there when it was claimed it wouldn't, so if I get the money back that I've paid so far, and don't have to pay anymore I'll be quite happy, I've only got about 6 months to go on it too, so found out at a good point.
I had the survey down the other day so I'm hoping that GE will be back in touch with an update, I'm preparing for the worst as in a rejection of the claim and if that happens I'll go to the Financial Ombudsman or whatever they're called at the moment.
    We shall see.

Fingers crossed for us all ! mine has faded very badly too ! the one thing I had not thought of in all this is the fact that since the roof has been "done" we have noticed gaping on the ceilings of all the bedrooms around the outside walls ! not sure if this is a coincidence or not ? but could be worth mention if they want to send an inspector ?...good luck to everyone :)

I too got roped in to the Aqua"scam"! The moss has started to grow back already. I hate to think what other damaged has been caused. Heard about Consumer Reclaim but wanting to do it myself. I had a loan with GE Money but I went in to a DMP and the debt was sold to Link Financial who I am still paying money too. Who should I write the letter to GE or Link? Also anyone got a style/template I could use? thanks
  • I would write to GE in the first instance as they were who you contracted with. If necessary, you can take both to FOS.

I just gave them a call and asked about making a claim under Section 75, and asked what their procedure was and they sent me out a form to fill in and to send it back with copies of my paperwork and guarantee. Done that, then they arranged a survey to be done and that was last week, and hope to hear this week how that went, plus they've kept me informed all along in the couple of weeks or so since I raised it with them.
Thanks to all the competition posters.

Wee update. Checked with them today, and it's now with their legal department, so will give them a week before I phone back again, the woman I spoke with said she would chase them for an update also, so we'll see if they call first.

Just a heads up on this.

One of three things will happen.

The first is that they will accept the liability. That is all to the good.

The second is that they will not accept the liability and tell you that you can go to FOS. If they send a letter saying you have six months to go to FOS you need to crack on with it because FOS are strict about that limit.

The third is that they will not accept the liability but make no reference to FOS. If that happens you need to write back and make a complaint.

Cheers Magpie, I am expecting them to say no liability, but they've kind of shot themselves in the foot with their own paperwork as it is clearly printed on them that the customer is fully protected as they are jointly responsible for the goods supplied. From the moment we send you your acceptance letter, your deposit is protected and we'll uphold your home improvement product guarantee, we only work with companies whose guarantee we confident in upholding - says it all, :rotfl:

It is clear also from the roof that the product didn't work, eliminate moss and lichen growth - didn't work, enhance the appearance of your home - didn't work(fading), increase the value of your home - didn't happen(surveyor told us as much after work had been carried out, although perhaps if it still made your roof look new it might've done).

If they reject it, I will have my FOS paperwork away the same day or next day.
Thanks to all the competition posters.
  • Well in the end I couldn't find any of the paperwork fot the job so against my better judgment I gave in and went through with the claims co.

Just had an update and apparently it's all over bar the shouting so to speak just sit back and wait on the cheque. Still smarting at the thought of handing over so much commission for something that couldn't have been more than a handful of letters but I suppose if nowt else it's a bit of spare cash I never had.

The few bits and bobs of wear and tear on the roof I've had have been fixed locally for cheap enough. My biggest grip was according to Aquashield's promo stuff there shouldn't have been any more wear and tear for a lot of years to come. That and it's insulation properties are rubbish.

Yeah I'd agree with you there. Sometimes the claims companies can be good and if you're happy to give up some of what you wouldn't have been able to get, then what the hell 70% is better than nothing.
The wear and tear shouldn't have happened, and neither should the moss re-growth, so I don't see they've got a leg to stand on. So we'll wait and see.
I'm hoping to phone tomorrow for an update, didn't get a chance today with being so busy at work, will update as soon as I have anything.
Thanks to all the competition posters.
