I've paid for two tyres now I've been told that the price I paid was for one only??

Hi, I've had two tyres fitted to my car. I paid the amount asked for and I have the receipt. I was then called at home and told that the amount I was charged was only for one tyre and that I have to pay for the other one. My receipt states that I have paid for two tyres. Can I refuse to pay for the other tyre?

So what does it actually say on your receipt, I assume its a typical garage receipt, hand written on a printed form something like "2 tyres - £120, vat £24, Total £144. Paid with thanks.". In that case, I'd argue that I paid the amount requested, but of course they might refuse future business from you, so might want to take that into account when deciding.

Are we getting the full story here? Presumably you agreed a price for the two tyres before they were fitted? Was this the price you paid, or did they make a mistake at the time they took payment?

If the price you agreed is what you ended up paying then they have no right to ask you to pay any more.

I was told it would be the price I paid. Now maybe I picked them up wrong but I have a receipt for both tyres. Is it my fault that they charged me wrong, and receipted it, or am I duty bound to pay the extra required. If I have a receipt then can they take it any further?

If I point blank refuse to pay, what rights does the tyre fitter have to claim the money from me, taking into account that I have a printed receipt from them stating that I paid the amount requested for two tyres?

large wide rim much more expensive than smaller standard
if you have tyre sizes it would help with working out if you have paid right price

Thanks, my friend. I know that I have not paid the correct price for the two tyres but I have paid what I was asked to pay and given a receipt. Basically the cashier cocked it up....
