Hey Samsil, Fuddle and Southerngirl! It's lovely to see more people joining in, and more meal ideas are ALWAYS welcome!!

Southergirl, how did you make the meatloaf?

I know you didn't ask me, but hope it's ok if I answer? For cauliflower rice, I just used the food processor to blitz the raw cauli to approximately rice sized bits, then fried in a little coconut oil (but could use olive oil etc...) with a little salt, paprika and chilli powder for about 5 mins. It's so nice. Cauliflower also makes really good mash!

    Day 8

Breakfast: coffee with coconut milk, half aubergine stuffed with turkey etc.. (leftover from last night's dinner).

Lunch: Kids leftover beef bolognaise sauce, parma ham.

Dinner: Thai pork curry with cauliflower rice and courgette noodles. Delicious, and I genuinely did not miss the normal rice.

Snacks: almond date snack bar, peach, berries.

I have had a really busy day, and by mid-afternoon it was clear I hadn't eaten anywhere near enough, as I started feeling light-headed and anxious. Must eat more! I know it's probably annoying to hear, for those of you trying to lose weight, but i'm already really slim and am so busy with my two toddlers that I often don't sit down and eat properly. I'm loving the whole30, but I am worried that i'll lose even more weight while doing it. Maybe I just have to accept that my natural size is skinny, but it can be tough when everyone else tells me I need to put on weight...

How is everyone else feeling today?

    Hi Gilly

sounds like you are doing really well. I wish I had to worry about not eating enough. Mind you am full now as I have just had choc banana soft scoop. It was really yummy. I'm going to try to make your almond and date bar.

I make cauliflower rice by grating cauli in to a bowel, covering with cling film and microwaving for two minutes. Very similar to boiled rice. It fools the eye as well as the taste buds! if I have curry it is a really satisfying dish to have with it.

    Day 6 (can't believe it!)
    Breakfast eggs and cherry toms
    Lunch ham salad
Dinner vegetable fritata and banana soft scoop

    snacks nus & dates
Drinks black decaf tea & coffee, water & herbal tea

Bit of an egg heavy day. I have cooked a chicken so will have some for breakfast tomorrow.

Well done Southern Girl for getting through day 1

    Day 9

    Hi all,

Today I've been feeling a little tired and lacking in energy, but I've made a real effort to eat more, and it is helping. It's taking me a while to get used to not being able to grab a quick chocolate/crisp/dairy snack to keep me going, but i'm starting to realise that I need to eat loads at each meal if it's going to keep me going until the next one! Also, i'm actually starting to enjoy almonds and raisins as a snack.

Did I mention how much better everything tastes? I must have done! I can't stop going on about it! EVERYTHING tastes AMAZING! Even the plainest, most boring sounding meals. The basic, home-made dressing on my salad this evening was like some kind of nectar. I think this is partly due to the fact that I no longer eat the kind of strongly-flavoured snacks and sauces that I used to, and also that lack of snacking options means i'm always ravenous by mealtimes.

Breakfast: Chicken leg, half avocado, banana, parma ham

Lunch: Chicken thigh, huge salad, half avocado

Dinner: Lamb steak AND cod wrapped in parma ham, huge salad. Small handful dates, raisins and almonds with coconut milk.

    Snacks: Almond date bar, cherries

In case anyone is interested, my IBS symptoms have totally vanished, but the IC is still an issue. I'm cutting down on caffeine, and totally cutting out cocoa, tomatoes and strawberries, as they are apparently common irritants. I really hope this helps, as I find it incredibly painful.

Flissh - have a great night!

    How was everyone else's day?

  • Hi All,

Oh Flissh looking forward to hearing what you had for dinner at the Italian. I think I'm going to have to avoid eating out for the next 30 days. I would be too tempted by everything on the menu and also would want a glass of wine.

Before starting the whole30 I would always have a midmorning snack (fruit or breakfast biscuits) and then something in the afternoon and then another snack when I get home and sitting in front of the computer (usually cadbury giant chocolate buttons). Since having protein with every meal I haven't felt the need to snack and at the moment manage on three meals a day. And I think not eating after 7pm is helping too.

Gilly, pleased to hear everything is tasting great! It definitely makes it easy to continue with the whole30 when you get some enjoyment out of it. I'm sure everything will taste great for me to when I finally finish the meatloaf, I hate to throw food away so will eat it until it's finished!.

    Day 2

    Breakfast - meatloaf, watercress, advocado

Lunch - meatloaf, advocado, olives, sundried tomatoes

Dinner - meatloaf, artichokes, chargrilled peppers, strawberries

    Drinks - black coffee, water

    Here's the meatloaf recipe
    http://www.eatingforidiots.com/homestyle-meatloaf/
I didn't bother adding almond flour or coconut flour. I also added chopped celery. And as you can tell it makes quite a large meatloaf. I reckon I have at least one more day of eating meatloaf and then it will be gone.

Thanks guys for the cauliflower rice info - I will definitely give it a go soon.

Still feeling pretty good today :) Good luck everyone for tomorrow.

You're all doing so so well.

I played at it yesterday and today was my real big start. I have done tremendously well (other than drinking home made elderflower cordial with sugar in) up until after 7pm I had a carb craving and succumbed to a slice of toast. I didn't want it, didn't enjoy it and saw my tummy bloat quite quickly. Learning quickly that the full feeling is no where near as good as a slightly hungry or fulfilled feeling... Completely alien to me.

I'm going to read back tomorrow all your posts, get some food tips and read how you were feeling too.

I'm beating myself up but pleased I did so well, was enjoying feeling in control not food controlling me... Till the end!

    Evening all:wave:

Well, I'm back. I had pan fried sea bas & salad. I gave my saut!ed potatoes to the others. It was very nice.

I drank fizzy water and had a decaf coffee to finish. They always give lovely Limoncello at the end and I had to say no thank you. But I felt really pleased with my self.

When I got home I did have a few nuts and a date! Am going to give up the dates as I think I am eating too many. They are so sweet and I want to try to stop craving things that are sweet so going to stop eating those for a while.

Well done everyone for sticking at it.
Southerngirl, thanks for the meatloaf recipe, will give that a go as soon as I get the ingredients in:)

Woke up pleased with my progress yesterday, forgot about my faliures and went shopping for fruit, veg, salad, meat and nuts (amongst other things for other members of the family but slowly they will be replaced with items that are much better for them once my knowledge increases)

I didn't have breakfast, just green tea. When I came home from shopping I had a handful of nuts while putting away then made myself salad with mackeral strips and a small fruit salad. Drinking green tea as I type to you.

I'm size 16-18 and have flitted drom diet to diet all my life. I have never stuck to anything and being an emotional eater, I need to get further to grips with the carb/sugar issue than most but I am determined to do this.
  • Hi All :)

Well done Flissh for sticking to the programme! Sea bass and salad would've been very tasty too so I hope you didn't feel like you were denying yourself too much!

Welcome on board Fuddle. I also have found diets difficult to stick to in the past but so far I'm finding the whole30 not too bad. I find this programme quite straight forward, no point counting, nothing to weigh and it's pretty clear what you can and can't have. And there is plenty of support on here so we will all get through this together!

Since starting the whole30 I have rediscovered that feeling of being slightly hungry again which I haven't felt for awhile due to continually snacking/grazing so I'm pleased to have given up all the snacking.

    Day 3 today

Breakfast - bacon, egg, mushroom, advocado

    Lunch - blueberries

Dinner - meatloaf, egg, watercress, advocado, chargrilled peppers

    Drinks - black coffee, water

Feeling a bit more tired today but also feeling slightly euphoric for some reason. Very proud of myself for resisting temptation - there was a large tray of homemade cupcakes at work today which I avoided. Also went food shopping and didn't buy anything I shouldn't have!

Should we be avoiding sulphites? I wanted to buy sausages but they have sulphites in them so wasn't sure if I can eat them or not. Ended up buying organic sausages which were sulphite free but nearly twice the price!

Wishing you all a great day tomorrow.

    Day 8
Hi Southerngirl, goodness knows about sulphites. I had sausages at work today with veg. To be honest unless someone says they would sabotage the whole 30 days I'm not even going to give them another thought.

Agree this is very easy to follow. I am eating plenty (as I said, bit too much really) feel full, but only eating good stuff.

    Breakfast, chicken & nuts
Lunch, sausages & veg & soup
    Dinner, chicken and veg.

Black decaf tea & coffee, & lemon & ginger tea.
    Snacks, Nuts & apple

I'm feeling tired today too. lots of stairs where I work and getting to the top of them has been hard today. Felt really whacked each time. Also feeling a bit bloated! I wonder if I'm a bit verged out:D
