Keep at it Gilly, you're doing really well. I hope that soon you will turn the corner and start to feel great.
Good day again today, though got a headache again tonight. That's been a headache every night:(

    Today's food
    Break fast Scrambled eggs (again)
    Lunch, mackerel salad
Dinner, Thai green curry and Cauliflower rice. (love cauliflower rice)
    Snacks, few dates, strawberries.

Think I may be eating portions that are too large. If I'm honest this is something I'm always guilty of and need to get control over.

Just a Girl, I had a look at your blog and saw on there somewhere lists of your daily food and it's amazing how little you eat!! (although obviously high nutrient based)

The headaches will pass, stick with it. When you take out processed foods it's amazing how little it actually leaves you to eat. I adore the way I eat, every meal is delicious and satiating and I never feel deprived :D

    Keep going ladies!

    Day 7

What a difference a day makes!! I've been feeling full of energy today, and ravenously hungry. And for the first time since I started, I'm craving healthy, whole foods rather than rubbish, and EVERYTHING tastes amazing!

I popped in to Lakeland today and found a vegetable spirelli thingy reduced. I've had my eye on one of these ever since taking an interest in the low-carb/paleo lifestyle, and I have to say, I think it's great. I made sweet potato 'spaghetti' for dinner, and it was quick, easy and really tasty! My two boys even loved my first experiment - cucumber spaghetti.

Breakfast: Chicken leg, half avocado, parma ham slices, peach.

Lunch: Huge rocket salad, baked aubergine stuffed with turkey (turkey mince in a home-made tomato sauce). Berries.

Dinner: Chicken and mushroom (and chard, and aubergine, and parma ham) sweet-potato 'pasta'. I used home-made chicken stock and a splash of lemon juice to make a sauce. It tasked incredible to me, but I suspect that's coz my taste-buds haven't been numbed by sugar and processed foods for the past week. However, my OH also really liked it, so I think he's gradually coming round to my way of thinking!

Snacks: Coconut milk coffee, homemade almond/date snack bar. Fresh fruit salad for pudding.

I also made some banana chocolate ice-cream (blitz frozen banana with coco powder until softens into soft-scoop consistency), which both boys loved, too. I'm amazed at how much of my Whole 30 foods my little boys are interested in, and am definitely going to encourage this.

Feeling much happier and more enthusiastic about the Whole 30 today, and am starting to really look forward to finding new recipes rather than panicking that I can't rely on the old favourites. That's got to be a good sign!!

Thanks for the support, Just a Girl and Flissh! How are you getting on today?

  • Bravo Gillby *claps* and how awesome that your boys are enjoying some of the foods too. I used to love the banana soft serve, I used to add in a scoop of protein powder for added protein :)

    The banana thing sounds lovely.

I'm glad the weekend is over! it feels easier at work. Can't remember if this is day 4 or 5. Going okay. Trying to eat less today. Have been busy decorating so managed to not think about food too much.

Gilly I'm glad you have turned a corner. I was worried there for a bit:D

    Todays food.

    Breakie, eggs and cherry toms
Lunch, left over thai curry and cauli rice, yum.
Dinner, beef stew and veg, three dates for put
    Snacks, nuts Banana.

Drinking herbal teas and black decaf coffee.

Thanks both - for the support and for sharing your experiences! I slept really, really well last night, which is brilliant, but back to feeling a bit blah this morning. I don't feel like eating at all, which feels strange, and I suppose breakfast is usually such a big part of my day! Am having coffee with coconut milk, and will wait until I feel hungry before eating.

I'll update later. Have a good day!

Hi there, I've been lurking this thread for a bit, can I join in a little?!
I'm not sure I could commit to the whole 30 right now, there are too many goodies in the fridge (hubby and kids with varying tastes!)to de-rail me right now, but id like to work towards it and I've found your posts inspiring.
Reading this thread has inspired me to get my online grocery order in check.
I've been eating mostly paleo for about six months,i manage it about 95per cent of the time but could do much better. but really struggle with breakfast so eat oat based stuff with rice milk- but 'just a girl'your blog with the pic of nuts and berries has inspired me to try cut the oats again, thankyou!.....
Thanks for the links to some of the articles/blogs above I really appreciate it I love looking at new recipes, that's what I mostly enjoy about paleo lifestyle.... Too many recipes too little time!....there is a site I like for recipes called 'eatdrinkpaleo'...and I would also recommend Jamie's 15 minute meals book for ideas for marinades and herb combos for meat, and interesting salads. Gwyneth paltrows book 'it's all good' is also a fave of mine.also I have some slow cooker books by cara hobday which are paleo friendly.
Hope these ideas are useful, at first it seems really hard but I tend to think of myself following an Asian and meditteranean style diet, all of which have loads of tasty ideas but lots do contain soy. like I cook a lot of Thai curries, kebab type meat stuff.

Since I've been eating this way I have dropped a dress size and (as long as i dont cheat) I don't get any symptoms of things I used to have problems with like ibs migraines cystitis, mouth ulcers... its soooo worth it.

I've just started reading 'The Primal Blueprint' by Mark Sissons. A big fan of marksdailyapple blog (same bloke) and started today cutting out sugar and carbs. A whole way to go and actually really concerned about going against 'the norm' but I can see how a diet of the earth's food not messed about with by man can only be beneficial.

I'll read the whole30 tonight when the girls are in bed. Happy to have found you :)

Hi samsil and fuddle, thanks for the extra info.

Im very excited. Ive got my bananas in the freezer and i'm going to have a go at the soft scoop idea. I'll let you know how I get on.

Day 6 for me today. I feel ok. I am getting used to not having milk for tea. I think that has been the biggest challenge for me. That and portion size, which I am still battling with.

Well done Gilly and Flissh, keep it up!

I'm now officially on board - day 1 today!

Breakfast - black coffee, meatloaf (whole30friendly), watercress, advocado

    Lunch - meatloaf, watercress, advocado

Dinner - meatloaf (again!), watercress, strawberries

    Drinks - water, black coffee

So far so good. I thought I'd really struggle giving up milk in my coffee but actually black coffee isn't too bad. Lunch and dinner will be quite easy to make but breakfast will take some thought. I normally have yoghurt and berries for breakfast and will definitely miss the yoghurt. Eating protein and veges/salad for breakfast will take some adjustment however for the first time in ages I didn't feel hungry mid morning and managed to wait until lunchtime so it feels like I'm doing something right and managed to avoid the midmorning snacking! I love reading your guys menus - it definitely inspires me.

Flissh - I've never tried cauliflower rice before - do I cook the cauliflower first and then put it in the food processor?

Oh dear, I was feeling quite optimistic until I read The Timeline link Gilly put up - looks like I have 'The Hangover' to look forward to for the next two days. Maybe it won't be so bad :)
