Ignore this advice as it's INCORRECT.

All 123 current account openings will now be monitored centrally and those who attempt to open more than 2 after 24/6/2013 will have those above the limit forcibly closed.

This applies to joint/ sole combinations.

It does not apply to those who held more than 2 before 24/6/2013.

Has anyone actually tried to open more than 2 after 24/6/13? There is still nothing on their website that confirms this.

I tried opening three accounts in-branch on the 21st. The lady dealing with me knew nothing about a multiple account ban. When the application was submitted the response was "referred". She rang me this week to say my application was declined. She didn't know why.

Without going into my details I'm fairly confident my credit worthiness is top notch. I'm guessing this forum knows more than the clerk dealing with my application.

    Hi, Thanks for this info.
Been debating about 123 for ages, got over £85k, with Derby, paying 3.06% and another £30k to come, bonds matured.
Not happy having over £85k, as I had N/Rock, and both Icelandic banks when they went belly up, luckily, no loss.
    The bonus on the derby, issue 4 expires Nov 30th, but never gave multiple , current A.cs with 123,a thought;;
I have got A/cs everywhere.and all my DD,s are with Hsbc, my main current A/c.and plenty to be used, umpteen CCs I rarely use, Amex. Cap 1 etc.
I want 2 A/cs in OH name , can anyone tell me what ID is required, if any please, and if it is required, would it be better going into branch to set them up?

I applied on the 22nd for my 3rd and it was opened on the 23rd. On the 23rd I applied online for my 4th and it was accepted on the 24th.

So if your application was declined, it wasn't for trying to open 3 on the 21st.

Opening online was very easy and I would recommend doing that. I wasn't asked for any ID. My 1st application was on the 12th and accepted by email on the 13th.

Are the two outgoing £1 DD's necessary as a requirement or can you just have the two DD's sitting there doing nothing.

Like Gromitt says in post #130 above, in order to qualify the DD's just need to be set up (they can sit there doing nothing):
To earn cashback and credit interest on your 123 Current Account, you must:

    c) have at least two Direct Debits set up on your account

Direct Debit: An instruction from you to us authorising
an organisation to collect varying amounts from your account, as long as you have been given advance notice of the collection amounts and dates.

Only reason I set up my 2 DD's to pay out £1 was so they don't get cancelled by the bank if left unused for 12 months, I would prob forget to check.
Never let the perfume of the premium overpower the odour of the risk

    There is now. Go to:

    This page:

    It now includes the statement:

"A maximum number of two 123 Current Accounts can be held at any one time. These can be held in single or joint names.

Rates and information correct as at 2nd July 2013
    "

This was absent from the Google cache (on 25/06/13) of the same page with conditions dated 3rd June 2013.
