Why do we use the bathroom more on fast days, is this excess fluid orf water consumption? TIA x managed to complete a fast day yesterday. Aiming or 1000 cals today. Lets keep going guys xx
Hi. I don't know all the science behind it, but on any diet, the first weight you lose is water. Even if you drink loads, as you do on the 5:2 diet you will lose a lot of water in the first few days. Don't think of this as bad though, it may not be all 'fat' that you lose at the start, but it does mean that you lose inches from your waistline!

Just a reminder to anyone wanting to get free kids tickets to selected London shows in August, that the Kidsweek site is now up and running.

Buy one adult ticket and a child goes free.

Good Morning everyone. It's interesting to hear of everyone's talk about this diet. I m just having a drink of those emmi latte s but don't really like it. I heated it up but still don't . It's a shame really. I'm also having a piece of stale brown granary bread with honey on lol. Bread doesn't last long nowadays does it but 10 seconds in the microwave and its still quite nice. Poor Susie :D
Hi emerald21, I thought that was what a toaster was for! Stale bread yuk, toasted stale bread yumm...:)

    Xmas Saver!
Just been having a mooch through the cupboards trying to get some ideas of meals for tomorrow's 2nd fast day.

It's looking like 1/2 tin parioli toms (46) raw broccoli and cauli chopped up tiny small and cooked for a few mins in the toms with a splash of water (say 50kcal), 1/2 tin tuna (60). Serve with either 1/4 tin smart price potatoes (48) or 1/4 can butter beans (also 48). Loads of black pepper. Total approx 205

I havent got any zero noodles yet but when I do I will be giving this a go: serve with 1/4 jar ragu tomato and chilli (44kcal), veg as before (say 50kcal) loads of black pepper plus the noodles. Total approx 100

Also I'm going to try 1/8 jar Pataks jalfrezi sauce (58) with 1/4 tin parioli toms (23) plus the veg as before (50) and the noodles. Total approx 140

I've still got the ribena drinks from bzz, they're only 8-10cals each, nice break from black tea and water.

Pickled cabbage is really low in cals too, and is good with salad as it's quite wet so useful when avoiding salad dressing.

    Morning all
found the fasting dead easy as I seem to eat like this a lot, perhaps too much as I GAINED a pound, oops.

Just a second mention that Ryanair have reduced their prices for fllights for the first couple of weeks in august and you can now get a return to the med for under £100 if you stick to hand luggage....might suit some who are looking to get away at that time.

    Good morning

Sun and washing out so good start to the day.

My first fast day wasn't so bad but did anyone else notice how often they "accidentally" go into the kitchen for something to nibble when they have time on their hands?

Yesterday I found that I wandered into the kitchen so often that I am surprised the carpet hasn't got a groove where I wander!! Today I am going to record just how often I go into the kitchen for "something" to try and re-educate myself - well hopefully.

Hope all are having a good day

I managed to complete my first Fast day yesterday and it wasn't too hard to stick it out. The thought of my coffee and 2 thin biscuits before I went to bed helped !

However, I am a little disappointed and would appreciate some guidance from long term 5:2 ers as to whether this is normal. I weifg exactly the same this morning as I did yesterday ie I havn't lost an ounce inspite of sticking to 500 cals. I've also got a headache - perhaps caffeine withdrawal as I only had 1 cup of coffee instead of my usual 5. I had to get up for a widdle 4 times last night and I feel kna****** and a bit lethargic. I wasn't expecting miracles but I wasn't expecting this either.

Do you think this is just my body adjusting ?
Hello, Please give it time tbw. Don't weigh yourself every day. That way lies madness, as our body weight changes naturally by a pound or two day to day, depending on time of day, time of month, whether you have just ingested or egested....etc.! Measure your waist and hips now, and weigh and measure yourself after a week. If you are doing the 5:2 diet you will lose 2 or 3 pounds a week, and the inches will drop off. You do get a bit of a headache at the start, but you are rather shocking your body by not feeding it for hours, and then only feeding it a quarter of what it thinks it "needs". And you are probably eating far less sugar, less caffeine, less chocolate. Drink loads of water and stick with it.
