OP I think this is very common. I also think if a company advertise on a jobs website that aggregates from other websites, the number of applicants will be even higher.

If people have their CV uploaded to a jobs website, they can press a button to apply and that's it.

I also think the hours and type of work affect the number of applicants my school has been advertising for a school patrol officer for 8 months and we have finally got one.

We can't get a lunch time supervisor though as no one wants to work 5 hours a week, in the middle of the day. We've only has one applicant !!

If you assume that every local job seeker will be expected to apply for every local job they are even borderline qualified for that is a lot of applicants. Jobs which require rarer qualifications and experience will get fewer.

This is the trouble with the jobcenter telling people to apply for every job available, employers get stuffed with masses of idiots who aren't even get-out-of-bed-ready let alone job-ready and the genuine ones who could make a real go of it get buried.

    Jaguar Land Rover.

And we've both had several minor problems with ours (ours are '62' and '13' plate)

Still going to be getting another one, though :D
I would say that is unusual for the national average. I would expect nearer 100 per post.

In our industry, it's going to 1000 a post at the moment

Although we have always had a higher average :)

Again, in our industry it's always been a problem, as there seems to be an impression that we're living like millionaires and earning £billions!

It's not the case, and although I've made a good living from it, it's the few that are on huge money (which I'm certainly not by industry standards) that are creating this impression.

Its nothing new in these many people are in search of jobs but they not even been called for an interview though they have applied for many. you will get hand full of applications please try to check all of them and at least make a call and ask them to attend the interview, may be they can improve there confidence levels. All the people who apply for the job are not worth but around 90% of them are worth.

I think you are typical of their customers! Plenty of time for the major problems to come along. My neighbours discovery3 comes back on a recovery truck at least once a year. Meanwhile my Toyota Landcruiser has never had a bill apart from servicing, never had a breakdown and is now six years old. I value reliability far more than image.

Getting back on topic, I was talking to a recruitment agent in the IT world recently, who was telling me that he regularly gets 350+ CVs for roles he advertises.

I value both, and think I've found a good mix of the two in what we drive. I change them regularly, as we're both high-mileage drivers, which may make the difference.

We've had between 3-400 per job we've advertised this year, and yet a lot of the British workers have left, as they don't like working until 2am/dont like being away from home for 2-3 weeks at a time.

My work ethic is there, and we have plenty who will stay and work at it!

  • Got to say, I found most of my applications were on average with the 100 mark for permanent run of the mill position (those taken as 'could be's initial contenders', I wouldn't be surprised most received LOT more so just whittled down to 100)

CV gets given around initial 45 seconds look, apparently! (have that on good authority from a certain FT's Mrs Moneypenny!)

    That is standard - fact

No, it isn't. It depends on the job actually. My company just advertised a job and received 55 applications - not 500.

My son has just started a new job. 1,500 people applied for this post, ten were interviewed and one (luckily enough my son) was appointed.

55 is very low. Must be ever a very specialist job or a very bad one at NMW

What was the job and where was it in the UK?
