500 applicants for 1 job?

Well this is true, I wonder what percentage of people would actually want said job vs those made to apply to keep benefits? Doesn't really matter I guess but it shows how damn hard it is to get any old job in the UK these days and as you say the less skills required the higher the applications I guess. I read an article in a newspaper yesterday which said eastern Europeans have more success in finding work in the UK than unemployed Brits.
Wasn't the Daily Mail by any chance? :rotfl:0 -

No I'm working class, It was The Sun yesterday. I stand corrected it says Migrants, not Eastern Europeans http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/4967055/Migrant-workers-doing-beter-out-of-recession-that-Brits.html0 -
This is just a twisted truth for some to blame others.
A job can have 500 applications, the internet is a wonderful thing. I can apply for 1000 jobs in an hour, just upload a CV to a job site and click apply on everything that moves.
Look at the amount of 'quality' applicants, and I doubt the figure is even 10% of that.0 -
We recently advertised to fill two post for a Residential Childcare Worker to work with children in care of the local authority, we received 288 applications.
Salary, £23.500.0 -
So a relatives employer advertised a job for a dispatch clerk in a factory, pay slightly over min wage, nothing special about the job or the money really, I applied myself and heard nothing back so enquired, they told me that the company received between 400 - 500 applications for 1 job
Do you think this is the general level of competition for jobs these days or is this a 1 off?
I would say that is unusual for the national average. I would expect nearer 100 per post.Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -
Question - did all the applications get read?iSlideOnItConstance wrote: »We recently advertised to fill two post for a Residential Childcare Worker to work with children in care of the local authority, we received 288 applications.

I only apply for one job at one time at one company (about 40-60 a week all only one job at a time still)Or it is 30 people applying for a 1000 jobs each. You seem to imply people only apply for one job at a time, might be where you are going wrong.
Maybe that's where I am going wrong..............I have never applied for an accounts role where the company have 1000 jobsWe’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
