Credit cards and bank accounts, even when operated by the same bank aren't linked. You can have as much money as you like in your bank account, but if you spend more than your available credit on your credit card, no-one is going to check it for you and move money between the two accounts. Thats your job.
Charge cards very often don't have set limits as they have to be paid off in full each month, why not ask for one of those ?
Any HSBC card that is over the limit will be dealt with by a different department from the normal banking department. It indicates a problem with your finances, the Money Management Team usually deal with these queries.
I agree with other posters regarding paying for your mobile, it would be much better to set up the DD on your cheque account. If you always have funds in there, then there is no risk of it being cut off again is there ?0 -
I see you ignored my question0

To top it off, giffgaff have now stopped my mobile phone, so I'm stuck without a phone,
Just top up with your debit card or take cash to a paypoint to buy a top up voucher. Your phone will work within an hour or two. No big deal.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
is HSBC premier the same thing?
I find barclay's customer service atrocious.
HSBC Premier does come with some advantages, but it's still retail banking and you need £50,000 of savings/investments, or a £300k mortgage and £100k of income, IIRC.
My company banks with HSBC Corporate, and I bank with HSBC Private Bank, which Kris has highlighted in the post below.
You need £2m in investments/borrowings to bank with this division.

Nah, I think he was just trying to add a bit more drama
And what kind of millionaire businessman used Giffgaff payg? And only has a £6.5k credit limit?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

If he was a millionaire surely he would be a HSBC premier customer?0 -
Mmmm.
Perhaps what the OP really needs is something like the Amex Centurion or the JP Morgan Palladium. No worries about such trivialities as credit limits with those cards.0 -
Unless its giffgaff premier or something us mere mortals can only dream of using :P

I think the OP is a bit of a dreamer - anyone with an ounce of common sense would understand that:
- it's not their responsibility to manage your money.
- they can't just instantly pull more money from your current account
Most importantly, anyone with common sense would know what their credit limit is, and not go over it.0
