:mad:What is it with these salesmen that they dont understand what a cold call is and when its not wanted:mad:
Several times now ADT have called and I have pointed out the NO COLD CALLERS notice clearly displayed in the door, yet they insist it is not a cold call.
THIS provokes me even more and they get short shrift to leave my property, upset or not.
I have now sent an email to them using their contact page and complained, using false details so that my personal information is not put on yet another register to be passed around ,as I shouldnt need to give any personal info, THEY SHOULD RESPECT THE WISHES OF THE PUBLIC AS A WHOLE:mad:
Another one was a well known window company whose salesman just continued to talk over me GRRRRRRRRRR, and I had to threaten him with the police for trespass before he went away with an aggresive attitude:eek: BL00DY CHEEK OF IT
As for ADT I have security, A FREAKIN' GREAT BIG GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG
who I will in future be letting loose, ON MY PROPERTY, if they or any others get aggressive because they ignore the privacy of the public:D

Thank you Mr Ted! I was starting to think we were the only ones..
We have a no cold callers sign and just yesterday, an uninvited electrician turned up to sell us his servies. I pointed at the "no cold callers" sign, and he replied "WASN'T SURE SO THOUGHT I'D ASK". I replied "isn't the whole point of the sign so that you don't ask?" he was walking away, his back facing me. He got upset and said "OK." and continued walking off. No apology, just attitude. I ended up feeling quite bad about it!
Now here comes the interesting part, I read recently that it is now illegal for uninvited sellers or tradesmen to ignore your "no cold callers" sign, and you can prosecute them for it. I'll see if I can find the link.
I have discovered a rather amusing, and (AFAIK) perfectly legal way to get them off your property. You know those Fox repellant water sprinklers? They sense movement and shoot a spray of water at the moving animal. It's harmless, but effective on foxes and animals. We have one in our front garden, but we turn it off during the day. Now, if you set it up so you can turn it on and off from inside your house, or from a garden tap round the back, then the next time you get a cold caller, turn it on. After all, they are an unwanted pest, aren't they? It will spray them until they leave your property.0 -
update: funnily enough, the link was here on MSE:
"It may be a criminal offence
Guidance we've had from Trading Standards says ignoring a sticker may be a criminal offence under the Consumer Protection From Unfair Trading Regulations 2008. While it's not been tested in court, a QC agrees with this so we've added it to our sign. If they knock when they shouldn't, there can be no argument."

There are so any ways round this - my last caller explained that on the previous day, they had stuck a leaflet through my letterbox so HIS call was not a 'cold' call.
Another favourite was 'free' loft insulation - as there was no charge for the service it wasn't a 'sales' call - and were not selling anything!
Spraying unwanted callers however, is an assault and will leave you exposed to criminal prosecution - just shut the door without comment. It really hacks them off.0 -

But it's not a cold caller if he has a big jacket on, he may be nice and warm, what then?0

How is a harmless animal deterrant water spray, going off on private property when a tresspasser happens to walk through, assault? It hasn't harmed him in any way, posed no threat, and was not intended for him. It just senses animal movement!0 -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assault
"An assault is carried out by a threat of bodily harm coupled with an apparent, present ability to cause the harm."
I don't think a light spray of water counts as bodily harm0 -
It serves no purpose other than being spiteful to spray water on him.
If you you are not interested in what the caller have to offer, then tell him you are not interested and close the door.0 -
