There's a lot of silt in our drinking water.....is it safe? Should I be concerned?

I feel wrung out CTC with this heat. Caravans in this heat are really oppressive.

a reason mains potable water is so filtered ( among mainy others )

Is that guts aren't straight lines. But they are subject to gravity. I don't know how this impacts on humans nor all species of animals.

It's one of those times I feel obliged to point out well kept animals live longer than those in the wild though. We live longer than we used to. I'd love Scottish spring water, but I'd probably want a silt filter.

The silt eventually builds up at a 'low point' in the gut, making that point heavier, more subject to torsion, and pulling pulling the 'tangled mess' of the git into an increasingly more extreme shape, harder to work, until that point. In horses, for example, you get 'sand colic'

Besides parasites it's one of the reasons over stocking is poor for stock, or dumping winter forage on the nearest, poached corner of ground.

I would and happily have ( in different countries, afraid I'm not that comforted by springs in a shared water table in most parts of uk, some more than others) drunk fresh clean looking river water, I probably. Could be leant on in the uk, I love river swimming. Shallow streams....hmm, I'd be cautious. A light trickle, personally I'd be concerned.

FK, are you a member of the NFU??

might be worth speaking to them about the water etc..

I am sure Davesnave said ages and ages ago, there is lower rate for watering animals if you are a smallholding etc.. this is why I think you should speak to the NFU.. as they prob come across this problem hundreds of times...

you could possibly ask for 2 supplies, one for the house and one outside for the animals, with 2 separate bills etc..

When I went to see a property just a few hundred yards away from you, I cant remember the ground being wet, springs etc??

didn't sleep at all last night, caravan windows wide open, and my sinuses and my nose was blocked, runny eyes etc, more anti- hises taken again this morning..

on the news last night, they were saying it can not be classed as a heatwave, because for that it has to be 30 degrees or over for more than 5 days ..lol..

day of the wedding ! tent people were working till 9pm.. 3 days for them to put all up and boy did they work. came from kent every morning and went home every night !! ditto the gardening crew, my word, they all pulled together and so proud of em. the moral there being not that friend is wealthy but they enjoy working for her. theyve put in 12 hr days this week. restored my faith that not everyone is money grabbing but actually WANT to help. ooooo weepy ! anyway LIR you said what i was gonna ! years ago i went to OZ for 6 months and loaned out my welsh cob for the duration to a person i thought was a responsible adult.... couldnt have been more wrong. got him back in the most appaling condition.... mainly due to sand colic ! drinking from a stream not a water trough. they lose weight, they can be very lethargic, it effects the joints and can KILL THEM... i got him back just in time. you explained the workings but i saw the results.... not worth it. takes a long time to flush/recover. so many side effect illness that goes with it. i personally feel that if the welfare of a animals has to be 2nd best because of finance then id rather not have the animals. anyway im off to get ready, have a good day y'all .

Oh my god! The woodburning stove company just arrived, unexpectedly, but I'm just pleased they're going to finish the job.

Dave, the way you're doing it sounds a lot less stressful. At least you can keep things under control more. Our stress levels have reduced immeasurably since the Main Contractor left the site.

We're into the holidays now. Yesterday was great. Today is proving a challenge already.

I do water the sheep, in that I fill up big buckets with fresh water daily.

Our cold tap water does have silt in it - I see it in the kettle & basin. I'll use the filter jug. I do have a gut problem as it is & after hearing what you say I shouldn't not filter it. The house water will be filtered when it comes into the tank.

Hot as Hell here again. Feel like a greasy blob - you don't sleep right in this. The hand has now returned to more of a normal shape!

Alfie it sounds like a great team effort - how marvellous.
