Thanks for posting those photo's maggie - really interesting - had never really thought much about how a swarm of bees is collected - now I know!

I'm tired too. Just got back from eye clinic in Cambridge - and I can last another year without a new prescription :D. Test was very thorough - took well over an hour including a 3D picture of my retina.

I was going to post a photo of my new raised bed with herbs for the kitchen. But while we were in Cambridge 2 of the chickens got out and trashed the herbs :(:( Going to see now what I can rescue. Hens are not popular atm.....
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

I know only too well; lost large chunks of one day at the weekend trying to house a swarm that was at ground level in long grass that had flattened under their weight. After three efforts they were still determined to hang round the same spot.

Fortunately they started to cluster more tightly as it got colder and I was able to pick up large handfuls and pour them in the box. I obviously got the queen in the first or second batch as the other bees started to climb up to join her almost immediately afterwards. That made room for the others to extract themselves from the herbage.

Seriously, you are too tolerant. I know we had girls, but they can be as bad.....and one of them was, but not at home! :naughty:

It's your house, so you make the rules. They clean up, then they get their bedroom door back! ;)

I gone past the screaming, bribing and blackmailing stages, I have left their bedroom alone to fester, which I have told them for months if I go in them to sort it out, EVERYTHING will go out in the rubbish, including their game consoles, guitars etc... think I will do it when they are in work, but hide their stuff, but tell them I've binned it, but then again, they know if it's worth something I wouldn't do that lol...

    So ....sell it. :)

CTC, you are under stress, a lot, and one of the things you talk about a lot is this area of your life. They aren't stepping up, and I presume they realise you aren't in' full vigour' and they should be helping more not less?

I'd give them seven days warning or whatever is appropriate then take action. You are keeping a house that doesn't make you happy, working for lack of support and ultimately...would you feel wives of your so no were getting guys who pulled the weight practically and emotionally? I bet you are a great mother and they hVe all the tools they need for future domestic bliss to be activated by a strong kick to the ' get in gear' button.

What is your husband saying about it?

LIR.. hubby doesn't get involved, as he knows he is like them, I have to clean up after him, BUT.. he will do anything else except housework....

I am 'parking' this link here before I lose it, I have been trying to find out what is the criteria about selling quail eggs to shops, restaurants, farmers markets etc...

The spring smallholders show is in a few weeks, so will go over to the food hall, and see what is being sold, and ask some questions etc...

    Just weighing up options

    Morning all!

Grabbing a quick 5 minutes catch up before people start arriving and my day goes mental!

Been reading but tooooo tired to string a post together for ages. I email my OH every night usually but even that has been slipping lately.

Maggie those bees, how amazing and glad someone got them. We had a swarm in a tree once but they moved on before we could gather them up.

CTC....kids, teenagers esp...taking on my errant step children nearly drove me over the edge, both of us even! I remember getting on the plane with the son to return to the uk when we lived abroad, he was leaving us for good, I was escorting, although we sat at opposite ends of the plane. When I got into my seat I completely broke down, poor stewardess didn't know what had happened, she kindly supplied plenty of tissues! I hadn't realised how much stress it had put me under, I had been I'll for a long time and never thought stress was a factor, I usually deal with things so well.

I thought that link was what you'd need but couldn't remember how to find it, I made similar enquiries a while ago when env health told me I couldn't use my own eggs in cakes I made for sale...!!!!!!?! I had to register and the flock be inspected and blah blah blah...I don't think farm gate sales need you to go to such lengths, otherwise no one would sell eggs from home, so of you might not need to get too bogged down with all of it. The only thing might be registering the flock if you've gone over 50, easily done with so many little' uns.

My friend and I have a stand at the spring festival, hence being particularly extra bust lately. We're in the hall you were in that time I saw you there and bought all your blankets! Hopefully see you there!

Well better get on, got a handful of newborn lambs and a bunch of hooligan piglets to see to amongst other things!

Hope everyone has a sunny day!

We're somewhere in the green horizons exhibition hall. We're selling craft kits and supplies and displaying examples of what we teach people to make.

But the main reason for going is to advertise our craft work shops - we came to the conclusion it's more time efficient and profitable to teach people to make something than try to sell it to them already done. You can rarely charge for all of your time with crafty stuff, people don't often appreciate how much goes into it.

We aren't really planning on selling much stuff, although we'd like to make enough to pay for the stand. We couldn't actually decide how much we should bring to sell, we didn't want to make loads of kits up and not sell them but we want to have enough for people to be interested IYKWIM

Luckily we're close enough to come home Saturday night so we can restock if needs be. It's quite exciting, haven't done anything like this for years, but hard work getting ready as I'm sure you're all too familiar with..I expect you got into a routine and had a feel for what to bring to different shows.

BTW missed you at the show the other weekend, saw your empty stand :( no more blankets for me :(

cool. ye didn't go, as I was so stressed, I just couldn't face, putting a face on.. if that makes sense..

Hoping to take a big display of welsh blankets.. more than normal... and the usual crap lol...

we have got a routine going now...

But I would strongly advise you, to measure out your stand, and do a mock set up at home, so when you get there, you know exactly where things will be going...

Kits are def the way to go, might be worth you looking at the craft show in Cardiff in june... Ment to get back to them regarding a stand there... think I will do that this afternoon....

that is on a Friday and Saturday..
