Bee update! John called the police who gave him the number for a beekeeper. He phoned round some people but thought it unlikely anyone would come today. Then went out to the porch for a quick cig, and a gentleman turned up, he lives 6 houses away from us, and is a bee keeper. :j He suited up, shook the tree and got most of the bees in a box. He thinks the queen must be in it as the bees are all migrating into the box. He's just gone down to our lotties to see if the beekeepers are there... Will be back in a while.
Meanwhile DD1 with GS3 is getting train to London, it's late arriving so OH texted to say he'll be at the station till 4.30 (train was supposed to be leaving 3.45) so he's missed all the fun and excitement! :rotfl:

Glad I didn't have to re-home bees this afternoon, especially as rain was due. Instead, I had to deal with a disaster of my own making....
I knew we were late with the dahlias, so it was a case of "Uh-ha, O....K" when I looked at the first storage dustbin, which had its lid pushed off by the ascending stems.
Not so much luck with the second bin though. On opening that, there was just a nasty smell, so I knew before I looked that they'd all be dead. I think the lid fitted too well, the contents sweated, and maybe one or two went mouldy, spreading to the rest.
So, we have only half the dahlias we used to have.Of those, only seven were ready to plant, so they went straight in. The rest have been potted-up till they look ready for outdoor action.
Don't worry, Rummer.....I've salvaged enough small tubers to send you a few, but they'll be late.:o:o

Last year I was going to bump off the wasps that set up home in the sparrows' nest box.
Then I thought about it and decided they'd run into big trouble, unless they built an extension outside the box. I would soon see if they did.
They didn't. It wasn't long berfore the colony, such as it was, just conked-out through lack of space to expand.
There must be a moral there somewhere. :think:0 -
Ok, so sourcing slabs is getting very boring.
DH wants something specific but I don't think I'm going to find it, I did find it but you have to buy metres and metres of it, not just twelve stones..
There is a paving centre near bath advertised on the Internet. Maybe I have to go there. Quite like the idea of something I can go and get more of when we do next bit of garden to get something the same to match in.0 -

I bought some from the place outside Hilliers Garden Centre. They had a pretty wide range, including some good fakes.0 -
Morning all
Dull here but mild. Has rained a lot overnight.
Planted up my raised bed kitchen garden yesterday, really pleased with it. Not sure if the sage is going to survive - the blackbird keeps pinching bits to line his nest with.
Off to Cambridge University at lunch time to have my eyes tested. They have some super dooper equipment and they make up the lenses I need especially for me as both high street and internet opticians are unable to source them due to the strong prescription and other requirments (varifocal, high index, photochromatic, and something else I can never remember).
So lucky to have the eye clinic at the university relatively nearby, having my vision corrected properly makes a massive difference to quality of life.It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Been wet here over night too better days. Just what our garden needed.
Davesnave, I think that's the one. If you went there then its gotta be good enough for me
The lilac is already starting to go brown.....such a short, short season, but so glorious. I really see lilac as a big turning point if the year.
Our old bathroom , the loo died last night.. This means I suppose unplumbing that sooner rather than later. ( we stopped the leak, as there seems no isolation valve, with a heavy bar of soap and some string.

I am having no luck on the Internet looking for an inexpensive but decorative plant stand. I have three hours this afternoon I could use to look in real life.0

off work today.... the house is a sh!te tip, whenever we are up the ranch, it goes awol.... really bad this time.... cats couldn't get to their litter tray ( as they shut the door to that room) so now there is cat poop/wee everywhere, and the house is honking...will have to lock the cats in the bathroom, ( and hope they tolerate each other in a small room) so I can leave both doors open...to get some fresh air blowing through....
Not a single clean plate or folk in sight... all dirty, and not even in the flipping sink.... bloody teenagers aghhhhhhh!!!!!Work to live= not live to work0 -
I'm totally knackered today after all of the excitement yesterday!
I've done a Flickr set of photos, Bee swarm in our back garden.
Also took some videos, not terribly good, but at least it's a bit of a record of what happened! :rotfl: You can find them listed on my youtube page.
Prob won't be around much over the next few days, just so you don't worry. Will hopefully be reading, but prob not posting.
