sounds as though he could be from the same gene pool a the old 'git' causing us grief, and saying he owns part of our land...
now me... I would not be so calm.. it would be full out 'up yours' and 'bring it on' attitude lol... what gives him the right to tell you what to do on YOUR land..
I think possibly if you ever decide to have pigs, maybe there would be a nice spot for them near him???
electric fence around new saplings?? lol...
I know the feeling about being an outside, we are from the area... and live approx. 6 -8 miles away, and we are treated by some people as foreigners..Work to live= not live to work0 -

Yeah, but I'm an ex-teacher, so being faced with confrontational people, young or old, isn't exactly new.
First rule is, "Don't give them what they want," which is always the same thing - a big reaction. Treat whatever it is as matter of factly as you can.
So, in this case, it's just an interesting gardening problem: getting stuff to grow in hostile conditions!
I have some hornbeams left over, so I'll chop those back and pop them in at dawn one morning. They won't show from the road. This year, they'll just get their roots down.0 -
Dave, thanks for the raspberry advice, I definitely need to do something with them asap as they've bent over so much they're practically touching the ground now
I seem to remember the variety was Polka, but it came with zero instructions.
I think I would be more CTC's approach about the neighbour ~ cheeky sw1ne that he is!!
lir, could you paint the concrete blocks with masonry paint?? Ald1 had some in this week for £6 or £7 I think?? They only had white or magnolia though.
I bought a decent sized terracotta pot from Morrison's for a fiver, it was pretty heavy too.
Beautiful day here today'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -
Brrr...feels really chilly at 12 degrees here in Glasgow and it looks like the rain will be on by mid-afternoon  Definitely not BH weather!0

Mr Dog was out, so I popped the hornbeams in, made my first cut of comfrey, took it to the Dog End, charged-up the barrel I have there and added 10 litres of stinky stuff from my existing stash. That should get it all fermenting nicely.
We're a long way from balmy summer days yet, but when we get there, I want to be capable of some really awesome bad drain smells! :rotfl:
And I have a few other ideas.....:D0 -
We have a swarm of bees in our crab apple tree!

Eeeeek at the swarm, maggie!!
What are you going to do, just leave them be?? Is it safe to do that?? I remember alfie had a load of bees under her bedroom window, IIRC?!
Lol at the stinky comfrey, Dave :T'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -
we just terminated a wasp's nest that appeared under the roof of the woodhouse, we were wondering why a wasp was hanging around us, hubby lit it, and run like mad, luckily there were only eggs in there, and you could hear them popping..
most of my peas are now planted out, and more wood cut up and stacked, and will be split in a few months...Work to live= not live to work0 -
Oh I. Miss alf on here,
Have you one your local beekeepers association maggie? They'll take the swarm for you0 -
Well, a pile of sub soil, rubble and weeds, is now a pile of manure, arranged rubble, sprayed weeds and a wood stained new fence ( that we think is Kiwi proof, which is a relief because the little wretch has a talent for getting out).
Our garden design is a bit slovenly compared to I have spoken's ( I envy his precision) but we're working with what we have to keep costs down.
Now we are trying to choose a paving slab to make a path from and guessing how much top soil we might need. Just having an area nearing something ' finished' in terms of designed rather than just boarders dug out in a straight line is really exciting.
Kiwi' sears are covered in wood stain from where he helped me.0
