Dave that's brill thank you! They are exactly the sort of thing we're after making. We've been saving bits of plastic pipe and branches, Mr FK makes sleeping hammocks out of old clothes for the furries, but they need lots of levels to explore like yours has, it's going to be ace...one day!
Our latest rescue ferret is a large boy, found in a friends barn close to the mountain, surviving on their hens' eggs apparently although still underweight. He was very tame, but no one has answered my local found ad. The cutest thing is that he is very ticklish, when one of the others tries grooming him all you hear are squeaks! Mr FK named him Lucky
Our local BHWT has no dates for rehoming at the mo, I know there are other organisations but can't think of their names...I've always had excellent hens from them and it's very rewarding.
BD I was thrilled the Xmas before last when I got a new washer drier, and the best bit, it was plumbed indoors, not in the garage as before so I could do my laundry under one roof! Sadly not a patch on my old dyson W m/c but that era is over
For anyone gardening ATM I wanted to pass on a compost supplier I use called fertile fibre. They specialse in organic coir and they sell it in bags but I always have the dry blocks. I make my own mixes by adding perlite or vermiculite and maybe some soil for permanent pots. One of the larger size coir bales costs £5 and makes 70 litres when it's been soaked...it's a bit dearer than buying bags but I find the convenience of storing a small cube far outweighs that, plus there's nowhere local to buy compost so it saves a car journey, they deliver for free.
Just Got time for a quick cuppa then must get back to work - in true MSE style I've just got a kettle that is also a thermos, so one boil stays hot for hours, ideal when I'm having back to back cups of tea (or more recently lemsip) Its taking a bit of getting used to, it's heavier empty and has no window so can't tell how much water is left without looking.
Hope everyone has a good day0 -
LOL BD, I bet the BBC are now running round like headless chickens, thinking what does it mean, and how do they de-code it...love it...
Davesnave love the ferret coup, I hate the size of some hutches, coups etc that are for sale..... just seems so cruel, people don't realise they by a hutch for a baby rabbit, and then that rabbit grows... but they are still in that tiny hutch they bought...
a bit overcast out there today.... and cold...Work to live= not live to work0 -
I wouldn't let DD have a rabbit, guinea pig or anything caged, but ferrets are different, as they actually like being confined for most of the time. Ours would enjoy their daily walk on a lead, but after a while they just wanted to rush home. I read somewhere that they have no sense of direction, but that's rubbish. Eric used to know the whole of DD's paper round!
We had hammocks too, but in their 'other' cage, which is big enough to stand up in and 10' long! It is now used for broody chickens etc.
The Chinese 3 level hutch was OK after I strengthened it and added about 3 layers of varnish. It did for as long as Eric lasted at uni anyway! :rotfl:
Wilf, our other ferret, was a Silver Mitt from a rescue. He was incredibly soppy and we could let inquisitive kids handle him with no worries.0 -
I'm back.
I'm toying with a few chickens too. I'd purposely been winding down while not feeling great but fancy having half a dozen, or a dozen more ATM. Maybe six blue layers, six brown?0 -

Heating and hot water, :j:j. System is AMAZING.. Now I desperately want to save for PV and a new barn roof to help feed it.
bathroom has had some hiccoughs, builder I in tomorrow, hoping its a quick resolve.
Telephone on today, and Internet,. Much earlier than promised,
Nice to see you too RAS.
BTW, scary to see how shallow the telegraph pole was in there, not even 2 feet, its not surprising the beggar moved. Gulp. My fence posts go in deeper.0 -
Well 4 out of 5 is a heck of a lot more than you have had for the last year/18months. Not that you need me to tell you that!
Here's hoping for a plumbing miracle.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

Progress is a wonderful thing. Inspiring..
Ground floor of my house is something a bit like clean and the borders are not perfectly done but sort of weeded.......I see a bit of ground elder and cuckoo pint here and there.
Everything is turning green now. The horse chestnuts and lilacs are breaking, the plums are veiled in blossom and the peach is resplendent in pink already. The pears will not be long.
We resited the unit is and this is a mixed blessing, I think its a benefit to the house, but it will make the north garden colder. Nice in summer, but might be a problem in winter. We'll see.. Nothing else to do reAlly:D

Great to hear your heating and hot water is up and running LIR
It's amazing what we take for granted and only appreciate once embarked upon one of these daft renovation projects, lol, as I well remember from our six months without either back in 2012
;) You must be really making the most of luxuriating in a lovely relaxing bath
We're making great progress here too - all seven front windows are now in and just the finishing off/making good to do (although that in itself is a further three+ days work, so longer than I'd anticipated as it's all the fiddly stuff such as re-fitting interior shutters.......) and they are looking fab :j Will have to try to remember to post up a pic when the joiners are finished. It does make me want to unblock the two other front windows though - but our budget is earmarked for other areas house-wise atm. I have to say they are some of the cleanest, tidiest tradesmen I've ever met - in fact our house is cleaner now than before they started, lol!
By the end of next week/next weekend we should have nearly completed the whole downstairs (internally at least!) - which will be so fantastic to have done - and will coincide almost exactly with the three year anniversary of when we first viewed the [STRIKE]wreck[/STRIKE] house
Talking of chickens, that reminds me LIR, I really need to go back and study the link that BD put up a few pages back......although we're still undecided whether to go for ex-batts or not......
Enjoy your newly warm house xMortgage-free for fourteen years!
