Loving the potting bench CTC! What a good idea! In our greenhouse we have slabs throughout however my grandpa had stones in the middle and planted direct round the edges. I preferred his however ours came that way with the house and we have never changed it.

    Hows your Dad today phoebe1989seb?

I very much hope he is improving and you are coping and managing to get some sleep.

My grandfather had perminant beds around the inside of the greenhouse too, he made his out of old wood and window frames, would always try and re-use things and save money, but that was his generation...I was thinking of making a perminant bed ( using the breeze blocks for the border/wall etc) on one side... an along the back too..

Our greenhouse here is on slabs.....

I just plonked the sink top in there to see if it would work, needs adjusting big time with the height etc...

I would love one of the fancy wooden potting benches :D

Currently looking out at the pouring rain and trying to convince myself that I really do want to go out in it :rotfl: Do you think I could get away with wearing waterproof trousers?

Davesnave is your Dr's appointment today?? if it is hope it goes well, and they can get things 'moving'

Just back from there. :) I stopped taking the tablets yesterday, but the symptoms haven't returned....... so far.

I'm having an ultrasound scan arranged to check there's nothing else going on in that region and a blood test later this week. Meanwhile, I'll stay off the pills, keep taking cider vinegar and hope! ;)

Must say the old NSAIDs made me feel 20 years younger, but we all know you don't get owt for nowt, long term. Pity! :rotfl:

I like the potting bench CTC! :T Why not? At least it's deep enough to be useful. :)

Take it from me, many of the fancy potting benches are rubbish, Rummer. We inherited one here, but it's too high & narrow. I think some of the adjustable aluminium ones could be good, but they're pricey.

In the old greenhouse, I sandwiched a home-made blockboard trough between the side benches. This left flat surfaces either side for pots and potted-up stuff. The trough would allow me to knock up at least 25 litres of compost in one go. :D

Here, I just have one of the plastic potting bench things, sitting in the middle of an old 6' school craft table.:o It's too small to make up a lot of compost, (I always mix my own) but it's OK for now.

I agree with Davesnave.. Rummer, for me they are way over priced for what they are.

In the greenhouse at home we made our racking out of old dexion style racking and we have made it the width of a cat litter tray... so the seed trays fit into them nicely, and are great for watering...

Glad you gave my 'potting bench' the thumbs up..LOL..

I have also found an old metal chicken feeder, think its gone past being used for feeding chooks, but was thinking of using it as a hanging planter ( got the hook running through the middle for it to be hung up off the ground)

Edit.... Rummer it might be worth you finding a monthly farm/poultry auction near you... as not only do they sell poultry, there is also a load of crap... well what I mean is all sorts lol... and it is suprising what you can pick up cheaply... especially if you got a bit of imagination about re-vamping things..

Despite early rain, it soon cheered-up and we managed to get a few things done or worked out.

First, I returned Pete's Mum's hedge trimmer. I think Pete was a bit embarrassed, because I caught him in the middle of making log deliveries. (He's only given me one of the four loads I'm supposed to have this winter.:rotfl:) However, I know he's been unwell and probably playing catch-up. ;)

Trouble is, our other log supplier also left us in the lurch. We haven't seen them since early January, and then the logs were too damp to burn.:( If we'd not been well prepped with our own stuff and the means to saw it, things would have been difficult.

I'm going to ask the log people for 5 loads at their convenience, any time from now to mis-summer. If they can't/won't do that, we'll have to adjust our relationship a little.:o

How's your Dad doing Phoebe? In my thoughts.

Our first load of logs was rather wet, but the following loads were much dryer. We are paying £55 a load, although I suspect it varies a lot regionally. Mr BD has also collected some logs from a friends tree that was cut down so we have started a small 'seasoning' pile.

Have found someone else to supply and will give him a try to see how well seasoned the logs are. BTW Dave he spotted my Morso straightaway (gave me a little 'stove kudos') - and I thought of you saying a Morso is a welcome sight ;)

My new washing machine should have been delivered today, but retailer contacted me yesterday to say it will be delayed by a week :mad::mad:, so we will have a Mt Everest of washing by the time it finally arrives......and on the theme of washing.......

We have got a washing line here hitched up between the tree at the bottom of the garden and the house. Trouble is that when the washing line is full of washing it is too heavy for me to pull up to the height it is meant to be to give it a good blow. I think I need some sort of pulley or gear to help me pull up the line - but not sure exactly what I need - any suggestions please?

Gosh, it was quiet! So glad you've posted Better Days. Thought it was something I'd said! :rotfl:

Grey and a bit breezy this morning, we'll maybe get more trees in again, as the forecast for the rest of the week isn't great. :(

We'll sort the road hedge today at the point where we've about 5 metres of bareness and our beech saplings that 'someone' snapped-off. They'll all re-grow, and they'll be more dense, but it'll do no harm to add some hawthorn that I grew from seed. ;)

Down at the Dog End, we'll start planting to make a line of 'nice to look at from a distance' trees. Behind that, there will probably be some less important trees, then laurels all the way along the fence line. We're keeping our options open, because it's the only place we have left to hide soil from building work. If push came to shove, we could lose 10-15 trailer loads where the 'unimportant' trees will go, although we're hopeful that won't happen.

Not sure about washing lines. I keep meaning to put one up in the polytunnel. We just have a whirligig thing. :o
