  • It's not right to let dogs "do their thing" on someone else's territory like that. I wouldn't be happy about that and think it would be reasonable of the walkers to keep their dog on a lead just for the section going through your garden. I'm very conscious, if someone tries to walk a dog up through our private road here, that no-one living in the road has a dog and feel rather "there will be questions asked" if any dog poo is found on our road as a consequence.

I know I was very conscious that it wouldn't be right to deviate from the footpath at all through the garden concerned and would certainly ensure any animal with me was on a lead whilst walking through.

It goes two ways. Footpaths must remain open, even if inconvenient for anyone. On the other hand, walkers have to show respect and good behaviour when near someone else's private territory like that.

It's just unfortunate accidents of history...stemming back, I presume, to a few people wanting to build houses with a bigger plot than was really feasible (ie not putting up their garden wall "their" side of the footpath) and leaving the land the other side of the footpath as is.

the footpath cuts our land in half, the house and garden one side, and our land the other... people don't realise a footpath, or right of way is acutally owned by someone, they think the council own it, all they are responsible for is the up keep... so in fairness, to the footpath you were looking for, it is the council's responsibility to maintain the 'ground' of the footpath, and the land owner to maintain any over hang etc from trees and shrubs etc.

we are in a catch 22, as we want people to respect its our land, and they got to keep their dogs under control ( this does not mean on the lead, as a dog can be under control with voice command) so we try and tell them, ( I do get hot headed if they are arsey lol) but yet we don't want to upset them, as potentially they could be customers in the future... BUT We got to stand our ground ( excuse the pun) and not let them do whatever they want on our stretch of land....

The problem is the old guy who owned our place was ill for a few years, so let things lip, so people just got used to doing whatever they want...

  • I can sympathise with finding it a bit "distracting" that a previous owner of the house allowed a few "liberties".

In a different context, I've got a similar situation, where people have been used to taking a bit of "liberty" on my land (ie because it was accepted by previous owners). I'm walking a bit of a tightrope being tactful/friendly, but firm that "liberties" won't be happening any more now I'm the owner.

I have noticed a neighbours workman recently going into my garden to do a bit of maintenance work for them and I wasn't asked if that would be okay first, as I obviously should have been. We're on mutual doing favours for each other basis and I decided to let that pass (as it's just a one-off thing that wouldn't take long), but it was a bit cheeky not to ask me first...

Ok day off today, to try and chill out before my blood pressure test at 4pm... ( I am hoping it might help lol)

anyway been just pottering around the garden, seeing if there is anything I can layer, etc... to get extra plants to possibly sell on this or next year at the farm auctions etc..

I thought I had lost my Rhueburb, as it went awol, and flowered ( well it done something different lol) and last year it done booger all, BUT.. I have looked, and there is stalks just about to pop open... and it is at least 10 years old, so would it be ok to dig it up and split it, and then pot in big pots???? so I can sell some of them on???

also would a general compost be ok, or would I need to add or use something different ???

Also... runner beans...going to sow some multi pots ( 9 module ones) early.... and see if I can get some earlier sales with them too...

from next week in theory I should have more time on my hands..lol.....so really do need to get the gardening/plant sales side of things up and running...

Edit...... don't know if it is worth buying some of the roses/plants etc in £land and bring them on, and put them in the auction, might be worth a punt..lol..

sun is out here, not as warm as yesterday, but still a nice day, you do need a jumper on though... but at least the sun is out!!!

Just dug up the rhueburb, I don't know if the thing seeded as I have some little crowns, which are not attached to the mother one... looks as though I am going to have at least 20 plants to pot up later....

It's lovely here, but unfortunately I've not been so lovely, so the bonfire has had to go hang.....:(:(:(

I wasn't feeling great yesterday and put the back/side pain down to doing the hedge on Saturday. Then, just after posting last night, the pain was so bad I cancelled dinner and went to bed. I kept trying to throw-up, but there was nothing there. Thats very unusual for me, as the last time I was physically sick, I was in my 30s!

This morning it was worse, but by a sheer fluke I already had a 9am Drs appt about my feet, so DW drove me there and we dealt with this pain instead. Brilliant lady doctor took one look and said, "Yes, classic can't stay still or get comfortable.... you're probably trying to pass a kidney stone." but she did a very thorough exam anyway.

So, although I had another very uncomfortable few hours, the pills she prescribed have worked, so I'm now pain-free, just somewhat sore from all the retching. :j

CTC the rhubarb will be fine if you split it now, I think, though it must be starting to shoot. Would have been better in January. Any old compost will do, but if you can add something like chicken poo granules, so much the better.

The pills are anti-inflammatories, old-fashioned ones which are almost off the prescribing lists because of side-effects, but I had them once before when my old motorbike knee injuries played-up in winter. Then, as now, they performed miracles, changing me from someone who could barely walk to full mobility in short space of time.

I guess they reduce the inflammation and relax things until the stone is passed. I'm drinking a lot, now I can do it without throwing it all back again! :rotfl:

Feet thing is hammer toe. Affects oldies, mainly. Needs op, but my guess is they won't do it until I start limping. I just want to get it on the radar at this stage.;) I won't let them do it until it's winter anyway, because it could mean a few weeks on crutches.

Maybe we'll do 'Treasure Island' in one of the next Pantos!

I wonder what is in those miracle tablets for them to work so quickly lol..

    HAHAHAHA treasure Island...lol..

Well I have to go back next Monday for another blood pressure reading... it was high again, even though I spent the day hardly doing anything, and nothing to stress me out...

It is the bottom reading that is high... which does confuse me a bit, so I asked again lol... and she said its the flow out of the heart... she also asked if I had any diabetes in the family, as I told her I do go red/flush looking very quickly in warm weather etc, and I told her I go out of breathe quickly lately...

So If my blood pressure is high again She is referring me to the Dr... and did mention tablets???

Did that make any sense to you? as I am a bit confused lol..
