Hmmmm........Marvin, our Marans cockerel went for DW yesterday when she entered the hen house.
I was surprised, as he's been OK with me in the mornings, when I go into there house to lift Tinky Winky off the top perch, where she insists on going despite having gammy legs!
My SiL has expressed an interest in any cockerels we might have spare, so I think Marvin may soon be off to Brum..... in a cool box! :rotfl:
It looks like bonfire day will be Monday here, CTC.0 -
:rotfl:at that house Dave. Not so much a doer-upper. More of a knock-downer:eek:. I doubt I'd even try to rescue that house personally...
It's frustrating when EA's describe a house as either to be knocked down or renovated, as very often I think "I don't think the house is that bad" and there was a NICE house in a gorgeous area I would have given my eye-teeth for in my home area, but EA had got the plans up there and was advertised it in a way that implied everyone would knock it down and go with the plans that had been made for a replacement house.
Meanwhile, back to the work in a minute again on the one I've got now. Must be making progress, as am now getting to stage where I spot people starting to "lighten up" when they come here and that's with me not having started work on the "house atmosphere" yet, as my intention is that a home should convey "Lighten up and relax" to anyone coming in (particularly me of course).0 -

Dave, its the time of year, he knows what its about more and more now, his legs are probably flushing and getting protective. Lots offer do this with a little maturity. I find if a normally nice bird ( which mine luckily have been) is handled with assertiveness ( easier when wearing wellies knowing your legs are safe from spurs they do settle back down.0 -
I love that house.
It right indeed me of ours in a strange way. That with a nice lawn rather than bramble around it and while not repaired similarly not left uninhibited so looking decoratively better .....
Probably similar amounts of work.0 -
someone could make that house a fantastic home with enough dosh.
our place just keeps on giving, lol... giving us a headache, and giving our purse a bashing ...
I think our house is at the stage, where it is worth less money than when we bought it... I personally think most houses if you are knocking them around, will lower in value at a certain stage, then start going back up in value when everything starts being put back together....
we are getting to the stage where I need to start thinking about where things are going to go, and what bathroom suits etc... flooring etc... hope I can find that golden goose egg...lol
weatherwise... it is bloody damp and grey??? I thought we were going to have a hot sunny weekend???Work to live= not live to work0 -
I am sooooo missing Alfie, as she has been here a few times, she would know where would be the best place to plant things.....ina 'cottagey' way lol....
had a bit of a heart sinking moment when I was doing the morning, check of the pigwigs.... one of them was just 'flopped' over the entrance to his arc.. and did not flinch when I called him, so ran back to the carvan, grabbed hubby, and then when hubby went into his run, he decided to get up an say hello....lol... our pigs soooooo don't like mornings..
the sun is coming out to play now.. still a bit cold.. thoughWork to live= not live to work0 -
Your piggies sound a bit like teenagers!!! I think you were looking for rhubarb, CTC. I saw some in Wilkinsons but it didn't look that great so I left it. I did buy 3 raspberry canes, 3 different varieties, they are currently sat in a jug of water before I go and plant them, no doubt 'helped' by the hens.
Called in at my friends house on the way home. Her mother is seriously ill (she's 93) and whilst I was there she got the call to go. It was a poignant (sp) moment and made me think how long till I get that call? Got to go back later to see to the hounds.

The hawthorne leaves are opening. That's a month earlier than last year and we haven't done anything to our hedges yet.
Looks like they're going to have to wait for another year.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

I have just completed the elm hedge, including all the twiddly bits. It's a job I hate, but it looks so good when the leaves arrive.
That and brushcutting has kept me going today. There was grass I didn't quite get to at the end of autumn...
I hear what you say about Marvin, lir, but ultimately it will be DW's decision. I think he's really quite good natured, but he isn't the brightest button in the box, so may be confused, especially as some of the hens don't accept him as boss.
Oh lord, now I'm doing hen psychoanalysis! :rotfl:0 -
Spent a pleasant afternoon weeding the raspberry patch after planting the new arrivals. Any tips on getting rid of an old bluberry bush (aka trffiid) appreciated as I can't shift the brute. The hens were a 'great' help.
