Well I have to go back next Monday for another blood pressure reading... it was high again, even though I spent the day hardly doing anything, and nothing to stress me out...

It is the bottom reading that is high... which does confuse me a bit, so I asked again lol... and she said its the flow out of the heart... she also asked if I had any diabetes in the family, as I told her I do go red/flush looking very quickly in warm weather etc, and I told her I go out of breathe quickly lately...

So If my blood pressure is high again She is referring me to the Dr... and did mention tablets???

Did that make any sense to you? as I am a bit confused lol..

I did 190/93 this morning in the surgery!:eek::eek:

To put that in context, it was 126/70 yesterday just before breakfast.

Back near to that now, happily. :)

I'm guessing the Dr might check you out for susceptibility to Type 2 diabetes by looking at blood sugar levels and consider cholesterol levels too. That's what he did with me.

Then he/she might prescribe a low dose of statins to see if they will bring your readings down. As you'll remember, maggie and perhaps some others on this thread don't like statins, as they can have side effects, though I've experienced none myself.

My readings have come down, but I know it's not just a case of pill-popping, which is why I'm making changes to my eating habits and losing weight. Not much fun, but better than the possible alternatives! :undecided

Plenty you can read up on the Internet about high blood pressure.

    thanks Davesnave...

will not google it lol, as by the time I read things I will end up with some obscure tropical certain death in 2 days type symptoms lol..

what are the possible side effects of statins???

I am def a few stone over weight, and even though I am busy all the time, I def don't do enough exercise... so hopefully with the work I want to do in the garden, as long as I pace my self hopefully the exercise will help loads..

Better have a lettuce leaf salad with a squirt of lemon juice for tea then.... lol

Sounds similar to what I'm having CTC :rotfl: I've been doing alternate day fasting since the beginning of Jan and have lost a stone so far (want to lose two in total), by eating 500 cals every other day plus more exercise, then eating normally (but more healthily than previously) plus the exercise on the other days. I'm not really a lover of sweet things - unlike DH who gets through masses of sweets/choccies/biskwits - so haven't found that side of things too bad. I can resist temptation pretty well - which is fortunate with his stash around - and limit myself to a single square of high cocoa solids dark choc per when I feel like a treat ;)

Dave - poor you, that sounds terrible - glad to hear you've hot a good Doc on the case and that you're on the road to getting them sorted. Years ago - when I was a toddler so don't remember it personally - my dad had kidney stones and had to be hospitalised. I recall tales of the agony he was in, having to pass them........doesn't bare thinking about for you guys  Hope you feel totally recovered very soon x

what are the possible side effects of statins???

Oh,loads.....Muscle inflammation & weakness is probably one of the worst, but that ought to be monitored for. My other Dr will have me back in 6 weeks to check on stuff like that.

Here's the rest of the NHS list:
    Common side effects

Although side effects can vary between different statins, common side effects (affecting between 1 in 10 people and 1 in 100 people) can include:
    • nosebleeds
    • cold-like symptoms
    • headache
    • feeling sick
    • problems with the digestive system such as constipation, diarrhoea, indigestion and/or flatulence (passing wind)
    • muscle and joint pain
    • difficulties sleeping (insomnia)
    Uncommon side effects

Uncommon side effects of statins (affecting between 1 in 100 people and 1 in 1,000 people) include:
    • being sick
    • loss of appetite
    • nightmares
    • dizzinessif you are affected by dizziness do not drive, use tools or machinery
    • inflammation of the liver (hepatitis) which can cause flu-like symptoms
    • ringing in the ears
    • blurred vision – again, do not drive if your vision is blurred
    • skin problems, such as acne or an itchy red skin rash
    • changes to your normal pattern of urination, such as having to urinate more frequently
    • feeling usually tired or physically weak
    Rare side effects

Rare side effects of statins (affecting less than 1 in 1,000 people) include:
    • visual disturbance
    • loss of sensation and pain in the nerve endings of the hands and feet (peripheral neuropathy)
    • bruising more easily
    • yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice)
    • memory problems
I think you have to bear in mind that any medicine has side effects and won't suit everyone. Also, people might have some of these already. I have ringing in the ears most of the time anyway...though strangely, not today! :D Memory problems? All the time! :o Passing wind? Let's not go there! :rotfl:

The biggest debate is whether it's actually worth extending the prescription of statins to an ever-widening group of people and I'd agree with questioning that. Just because I take them now doesn't mean I want do so for however long I live.

    hahaha

I have a lot of those things anyway..

wind, insomnia.. etc and the loss of appetite will prob do me good anyway....there is a risk with anything.... you just got to weigh it all up... also you may not get any of the side effects..

Alfie - you should try & rest up. It knocks you for 6 does moving house. Glad your in & are getting more settled. It's not been an easy time.

CTC - we have the dreaded access rights in Scotland, but it does carry conditions & one of them is if it's abuilding site then access is out of bounds, plus all dogs must be on leads. Loads of other stuff, but you'll need to read up on local by laws?

Some folks do get right stroppy & so annoying when they want in - like they'd like it if you walked through their garden.....not.

Dave - It's supposed to be agony passing a kidney stone. Glad you've got a good Dr. Makes all the difference.

Your Abutolon [sp?] is so pretty. You'll have to call it summat like Blushing Dave!!!!!:rotfl:

We did get a bit of snow & sleet, but it's gone & today it's been really gorgeous, but I've got a funny gut & haven't eaten much since Friday, nor done much. It's so annoying when it's nice, but did a lot of on-line stuff, so don't feel so guilty. This will get the weight off..................

OH has gt a rare blood disorder after being told he had to do excercises (for over 2 years)- we even bought a stationary bike!!!! He got really bad & in massive pain. It' s quite scary as he still hasn't seen a specialist & I've lost my temper with the local practice.

Re weight loss. My target weight is now is exactly what I achieved after spending most of Year 2 at uni in a band and brewing beer. :o

Got 37% in my exams and put on over half a stone. Thought it was the end of the world!

Now I'll be overjoyed if I get back to that weight. :rotfl:

choille, the footpath people say the dog has to be under control, so that could also mean by voice command...So we can not demand, or put a notice up saying all dogs must be on a lead... but we can say under control... if/when we put a notice up, it can not be written in such a way that it deters people actually walking on the path...

There is no way I would get back to my re- kids/marriage days... without actually looking ill lol.. But a good stone or 2 would be fab...

The nurse did take my weight, but I didn't want to know it, so I might cut back, an see if I lose anything in a week lol...
