Interesting RAS.
I was listening to the radio a week or so ago and someone was talking about the effect of trees on the landscape. Apparently land with trees absorbs a much higher percentage of water (it was a very high percentage but can't remember exactly what) - presumably the roots provide chanels for the water to drain through. He went on to add that unfortunately the subsidies that farmers get encourage 'surplus vegetation' including trees to be removed. It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

You get grants to maintain very old trees though.
The main problem is many of those 'environmental grants' don't make sense or. Aren't applicable to small holdings ( where we naturally have more interest) or small farms0 -

Hmm, might that be the Lightning Process? Have you seen about the absolutely disgraceful "research" that is being done in Bristol using the Lightning Process on children? PM me if you want more details and also about some of the attempts to find out more plus show how awful it is to use children for this so called "research". It makes me VERY ANGRY!!!:mad::mad::eek::eek::eek::mad::mad::mad:0 -
Moring all,
Davesnave.... THANK YOU!!!! you and your OH are so lovely....Can you let me know when you start planting yours...
Was soooo pooped yesterday when I cam home from work... I just sort of vegged out, didn't have the energy to do anything.... must be the weekend catching up on me....
The weather was really bad with us yesterday, and by all accounts that was just a taster to what is coming over the weekend!!!!
The government had a cobra meeting, and offered unlimted supported etc for the flood areas, BUT in England ONLY!!! ( SO I have heard) I wonder if it was seeing and listening to prince Charles reactions when he went down to visit???
This lack of help for so long... has lost them votes big time IMHO ...
Hubby is going to do spend a few hours over the weekend ( if there is a break in the weather) thoroughly checking the trees and the stream etc..Work to live= not live to work0 -

As above, I might not be the best person to follow in the peas department, because we're moving the veg garden, so will probably start things like that later than normal. I suppose we will eventually be able to get on the garden!
Right now, we have a forecast of heavy rain for every remaining hour of today. If correct, that'll be a problem, because the rivers are only just within banks again, so they'll be out very quickly and in a more serious way.
The destructive wind has been replaced with calm, but that just prolongs the passage of this front. Might allow the seas to moderate I suppose.0 -

I'd never heard of this and from google cannot really make out more on it,....some movement exercises, some NLP. S it seems its mainly going to be coping strategies.
I cannot really comment on something I know nothing ut and I wouldn't pay so much for something that's so poorly explained but tbh, I 'd try anything for coping strategies now.
I'm rapidly reaching clutching at straws phase of life. I have always been aware there is no cure for me, and apt hat we are life lengthening but if this helped me make it more comfortable I'd be prepared to try it. Not at that price though.0 -

Agreed. Has worked for some and not for many others, just like treatments for most things. Therefore, opinions will vary.
I'm sure DW would pay a lot more to be sure of a cure for her health problems, but it's not possible to be sure. We've already paid a lot for treatments which haven't shown benefits, but at least avenues have been explored.
The alternative is to do nothing, and sometimes that works too!0 -
LiR, sorry to hear you are struggling so much. You might be interested in looking at Toni Bernhard's book "How to Be Sick". I've heard a lot of good feedback from my ME friends, it's for anyone who has a chronic illness.
Will reply better later if I get a chance - have to get a bath as we're going to a funeral. Mother of one of DD2's school friends. Very sad. Much younger than OH and me.0 -

Yes it is the LP they are recommending. The dreadful thing about the LP is that the patient is blamed for not trying the technique hard enough if it doesn't work.
I can see that some cognitive techniques may hope people to cope with the devastating effect chronic illness can have on day to day life, but the problem with the LP and the like is that they purport to cure the underlying disease process. And if the patient doesn't get better it is the fault of the patient not the 'therapy'. This is what The Rowan Centre say about the 'training programme' that they offer http://www.therowancentre.com/questions-answers.htmThe programme is not a miracle cure and takes your persistence to make it work - that’s the only way to get good results. If you keep doing the techniques we teach you, you will NOT relapse. It just doesn’t happen because you are training your body to switch into healing and recovery. But if you stop or give up, you could feel just as ill as you do now.Who does it work for?
Anyone who wants to get rid of debilitating symptoms, whether they be mental or physical. It is not a miracle cure, so you have to be ready to put in some commitment and effort to change the way you think and respond to all sorts of things. It is not the programme that works, it is the participants, so it has worked for everyone who is ready to persistently use the techniques and strategies we have taught them.It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

On a more positive note - alfie was it you who recommended contacting the council for a CT reduction if a room is put aside for the use of a disabled person? Anyhoo a nice man from the council came round today who understood ME and said that he didn't make the decision but as far as he could see I meet the criteria. So fingers crossed and big thanks to alfie for the suggestion.
And embarrassed apologies if it was someone other than alfie my head is mush today:o
