How long as the 4 acre wood been on the market? JC

Not sure exactly, a few months. It was £40,000 last time I looked.

Dave that woodland would be no good. You can't work it, it's for looking pretty only. You can own it and are responsible for maintaining the boundary but you can't actually do anything with it. Not sure why someone would want to do that TBH it's more akin to 'sponsoring' the wood really.

Listed a few things on the local FB selling pages, not sure how effective that is, never done it before, but thought it worth a shot, with ebay and paypal fees you end up with next to nowt these days selling on there :( I have managed to raise £250ish so far this month, but unfortunately I've had some un-budgeted for expenses that are going to swallow that up, so no extra debt payment this month sadly:( At least I've not had to get further into debt to pay it out tho. Must think positive:)

Our computer was hacked I think.

I'm eventually on the laptop. Just caught up......I think.

Our weathers been pretty disgusting....really gone cold & sleety.

Ministry man comes back tomorrow on his inspection. Hope he gets frost bite in his nether regions. But that's unfair I suppose.

LIR - Are you talking green oak framed building?

    Grrr, lost post...

    Yes and no.

I'd use larch, Douglas fir. Whatever frankly. We have obligation, aiui to replace like with like. What I saw was manky, spongy timber and photos of a tumble down mess.

Here's a cheapish woodland not far from me. Needs a bit of work and certainly not flat!

We sometimes eat our fish & chips near there. Quiet spot. ;)

Hmm...but I saw the bit "for sale by private treaty". Scratching head...trying to remember details of this 'private treaty' malarkey. Seems to recall it was something or other along the lines of having to pay the vendors selling fees for them or summat (ie because it was a type of auction)? So, probable cost would be some thousands of £s more than it appears to be...

WHat every garden needs, for a very reasonable £1,850...

Appropriate for my garden I think:rotfl:...plonked somewhere facing the house and registering my feelings about just how much extra the renovation costs are proving to be than the vendor made out (think 5 figures).

Being a very "crafty" area, there's some rather nicer wood carvings for gardens round here and much more reasonably-priced. It's just as well I decided "One of them is a luxury and will have to wait"...:(

BTW Dave...you'm dead right that it isn't just "England with funny accents" yurabouts. It's struck me that even getting a house together here seems to be bringing out assumptions on their part of "Most people do so-and-so", followed by a puzzled frown on my part, as I've already decided it will be done the way "most people do" (the ones whose homes I have visited) back in my home area. Full marks to the firm that I was talking to on the phone that, on hearing my voice/where I come from, instantly told me "YOU will want...." and he was right...he'd got my tastes weighed-up accurately.

I thought it looked cheap. Still, plenty more where that came from..... :)

Here its very wet still, bit chilly. Just up the road in the village there is snow on the ground. :). Roads felt safe enoug hot though, just deep with water.
  • JC... sometimes you have got to throw caution to the wind and say S@D IT, and take a risk... Just before we bougth the ranch, things just fell into place money making, earning, borrowing wise... ok things arnt so lucky now..lol... BUT.. sometimes its now or never....

It sounds as though this could potentially be a good spot for you, as then you don't have to move..

I would be number crunching all day, and eyeing up absolutely EVERYTHING that wasn't nailed down and could be flogged off, even if it was for less than it was worth just to get the pennies into the daydream account...

I know this sounds an odd way of looking at it, BUT could you just ' manage' you debt with min payments etc.. and save like made to buy the woods, as once you have bought it, its yours, and then you could go back to throwing every penny off your debt... as once you have bought it, that's it.. it is yours..

Its not like if you are buying a house with land, where you have got to pay rates, utilities etc...

    Just an option....
