ooooo nooooooo
there are loads of flooding around us... weather seems to have calmed down a bit, but I am sure they said there is more to come..Work to live= not live to work0 -
That one is a panel one.
But the electric was also down, horses shivering.
They have access to a barn, but typically were avoiding it in the wind. Reminded of its presence and safety they were happy and rolling and quickly warning up....thank goodness!
But then the rain.....rain has come in places in our house that never have been permeable and shouldn't be.
Window lintels??????
Our drains aren't coping at all and our paths are overflowing. The rain was very heavy but only for about twenty minutes, so how so much water is appearing I dopn't know....buit I have never seen so much here.
Wind is from the south here still, and the water was pouring in our only south facing window lintel......over books,. Why would that happen?

Without looking at the wall, I couldn't say, LIR.
It sounds like the wind has been in just the right direction to drive the rain onto the wall & there's a gap where it can get through either directly over or further up from the lintel.
If the wind brought down the leccy fence then there's not much point in my initial thought "If it's a panel then maybe something less 'solid' would be better"0 -
I've joined the NFU...which will give me accesss to their legal help line in future etc..
My lifestyle policy is also going to be looked at, even though it covers public liability etc for 'pet animals' it might need to be tweaked as potentially we could be classed as commercial even though we are classed as a hobby smallholding we have sold some meat etc...we are also going to look at insuring our pigs... so if they get attacked (again) or someone tries nicking them etc... then we are covered ( we are covered by our public liability 'if' they get out and do damage to someone's property etc).
They did say the are going to put it on their records that I have contacted them for advice etc on this current issue, so it will show that we have been active in trying to resolve this potential issue....
Wonder if/when the environment people come up , they can do something about the 'orange' tinge to the water an mud that is coming from up stream???? ( let the flood gates open and let the sh!te hit the fan for everyone) didn't mean for that to be a pun due to the bad weatherWork to live= not live to work0 -
LIR ...... SORRY... I have been soo wrapped up with this letter we had today...
How much water is coming in??? Is it running down in the cavity from the roof???
Have you had the worst of the storm yet? or is there more to come??
Is Hubby Home??Work to live= not live to work0 -
All sounds a good move, CTC.
Although all quiet here at the mo we're expecting another band through this evening, as you said. The warnings currently end at 6am0 -
LIR.... sheer wind direction is pushing water into gaps that otherwise would not let a fly in... so i think a rare one off as opposed to a perm prob ?
CTC....... drop em all in iti !!!!! footed around so's not to rock the boat and now im sticking them all on the bl**dy titanic
some people think just cos theyve lived there longer they make the rules....
today ,here has been awful. horizontal rain with up to 80mph winds. trees/branches everywhere. ferries cancelled, trains on hold and generally cr*ppy
my friends house in town has had a tree fall, big silver birch, it is straddled from her wall, across the road, to ontop of another wall... roads been cordoned off and made me laugh the amount of people just stepping over warning tape and walking under the branches to shops rather than walk another road !!
i fetched a goose ordered by my friend from the butchers today for her [as i was out] i could not believe the price :eek:
15lb = £84 :eek::eek: [over £12 a kilo ]
stuff that, id rather eat chook :rotfl:
was given a posh bottle of champs todaymay save that for the new year
also a big jar of fortnum & mason kids sweets[dont suppose they taste any diff than tesc's  ]
day to myself tomorow :T no more work :j
p.s. my genny is going non stop at mo to keep water at bay with the surface pump ....
roll on jan 9th....;)
keep safe peeps
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: the !!!!! bit was the word used in the 007 films... ***** galore. or what you may call a cat :rotfl:
sensorship in the extreme0 -
The point is, CTC, you have been changing things! :rotfl:
You bought the ranch to shape it to suit you, not the people whose gardens happen to back on to it, so it's the classic scenario, such as I've had with Mr Dog.The other persons want things to go back to the way they were. As that's impossible, a conflict is pretty much guaranteed.
Most of us try to be friendly and work things through when a problem like this arises, but often the other party won't listen to reason. It may seem simple that it's agricultural land being used appropriately, but to them it's a development likely to devalue their property. Whether it actually does that, doesn't matter.;)
With Mr Dog, the reality of me being able to see him in his garden was the last straw. This happened when I found out that the other side of the field hedge was mine and started working over there. In went the leylandii. He just had to create a buffer zone, even if it meant giving up his superb view. Bonkers!
It seems to me that your NIMBYS need to be planting a buffer zone too. I would remind them now is the cheapest time to buy bare-rooted hedging!0 -
The thing is Davesnave I thought I was doing things slowly.. to try and let the neighbours know our intentions are.... When we told people we were having pigs, as to be honest that's what our type of land is best for at the moment... some said great, and then we got told some people on the estate were not happy...
'the stream' running though our land, has absolutely nothing living it due to where the water is coming from/through old mine workings etc...
I now have to work out what size pipe we need, and the amount etc... not going to be cheap... but I might even find out what type of firm would do this type of work, and ask for a quote..
I personally think whoever had bought our place there would be things they would complain about...
Wait until the warm weather... 2014 will def be the year of the parties at the ranch.... and if I remember rightly I think its 11pm you are aloud to be noisy till... so the music will then be turned down to 10.....lolWork to live= not live to work0 -

First, you have to find an amp that goes to 11.....:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I think the orange tinge to the water is probably from the mine workings. Could be iron in the rock itself, or iron equipment slowly rusting away. Other minerals might have come up with the coal too.
Those big drains are expensive, and although I'm not 100% on this, I think you might need permission to put the stream through a culvert. Have a word with the chappie who calls.
Personally, I can't see that mud coming off your land is a unique problem. It's happening everywhere just now, onto important roads around here too.0
