It sure did Alfie :( I guess we could shove it away from the house a bit more......dozy me hadn't thought of that :o It's the umpteenth skip we've had over the couple of years since buying the house and nothing like that has happened before, so fingers crossed it won't again......it was nearly full too, and if it hadn't been for me catching DH's *man-flu* (lol) I would have had it filled and away......got to finish digging up some nasty Tarmac......after that don't think we'll be needing any more, thankfully :D

It really does make you realise how quickly fires can escalate out of control......I just thank god that we were home at the time!

Look forward to hearing how your temper holds out with *Mr Pratt* tomoz!!!

Alfie, I think Mr Pratto had a real nerve to ask to use your gennie! Lets hope he gets his come-upance from the waterboard and environmental folks. I can't believe how long his procrastination has been going on! What a farker.

Oh Phoebe, what a scare! Hope your heart is in good condition, must have been feeling like heart attack time!   Thank goodness you were both at home and able to put out the conflagration! :T

We've had some not so good news from home, so tomorrow we're packing up the car and heading back. Had changed our minds from earlier and intended to stay here till Friday to finish off, but guess we'll just leave the undone stuff undone (hoovering the van, pruning the buddliea, sorting out some of the pots and prob more stuff too) and try to get back early in the spring, or possibly even around New Year if we can get plumber organised to turn on water again and then turn off and drain again... (expensive)

Basically my dear Mum in Law (always a good friend to me, not a MiL in "normal" terms) has been in a Nursing Home for a while now - certainly most of this year, ashamed to say can't remember in detail :o as she's been in and out of hospital and NHs for a couple of years now. Had a fall 2 days ago, doc now thinks he hears "a crackle in her lungs" so on antibiotics. But OH had call from his brother late this afternoon to say when he and my SiL visited they were asked into the office and they were warned that MiL is very frail and could go any time. So obviously OH is keen to get back home ASAP. But we ain't going to do the coast road in the dark and late on (we still have to pack, including some stuff that only goes home over winter).

So if I disappear for a while you know why. Though hope it's all a false alarm obviously!

May have time to respond to stuff this evening, we'll see, but I didn't want to just disappear and leave you all wondering if I'd had another hissy fit! ;)

Hugs to you all, dear DayDreamers!
  • ukmaggie45 do hope it is a false alarm for your MIL. Sorry to hear she is so poorly and safe journey back for you and OH. Take care and try not to get too tired - so much harder to cope physically and emotionally when you are exhausted.:grouphug:

phoebe1989seb good grief, you got my heart rate up just reading about the near miss with the skip. Doesn't bear thinking about what could have happened.:eek::eek: How could some idiot throw a cigarette into a skip next to a thatched building?

Alfie - fingers crossed for you tomorrow - have you still got a pond in your back garden?

Mr BD picked up the steam cleaner today, and he tried it out on the kitchen floor. We have light coloured textured lino which is terrible for trapping the dirt from dog and kitty feet, but there is certainly an improvemnet. Unlike the cleaning pad on the mop which is filthy even after being soaked in bio washing powder :o:o:o. The mop can also be used as a handheld so will be good for the kitchen in the new house too.
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Thanks BD! Hope your move goes well - Friday? Or am I mis-remembering?

This is a total experiment as Flickr has changed its self and I can't post pics the way I used to. (rolls eyes) Anyway, if this doesn't work I may or may not be able to sort it out later!

I cheated and did preview, and this works, but not sure if I can repeat it again LOL! :o

Actually colours much better than that, but light was very poor. Ah well, guess anything better than nothing! ;)

:wave:Hello, I'm back in the land of Internet, using Firefox, because I had so many probs with IE11. :p

I had more problems tonight when the surveyor's report my DD1 ordered would not download. That was the last straw! Got it now. Basically, he's down-valued it by £10k on the agreed price, so there will have to be some Deal or No Deal horse trading.

There seems to be a bit of a firestarter theme here at present. I'm glad you got your blaze under control, Phoebe. I have to report that the well-intentioned arson incidents we had near here earlier in the year came to nought, as the site remains an eyesore and the threatened clean up by the council still hasn't happened. :(

Hopefully your MiL will make a good recovery maggie, and who knows, perhaps we'll have a sub-tropical Christmas & New Year, so you can return and finish off at the caravan. :)

Best of luck with Mr Pratt, alfie. How does he like his Humble Pie? Will he eat it normally, or will you need to force it in!?! :rotfl:
