That is why I avoid using ebay as I would find that all very stressful. We sell bits and pieces on gumtree although that is just things we no longer want not a business venture.

Where the hell did that month go?

I feel like a bit of an interloper at the moment. It's crazy busy here and lots has been happening.

The build: we are nearly "done". I use that term loosely, as we will have a posh shell by the time the builders leave. But they should be gone in weeks. New roof is one and tiled, windows are in, first fixes done, cladding started, solar thermal and woodburner... It will leave us with the plastering downstairs, we have some of the old floors, but we do have new heating, plumbing, electrics.... The finishing stuff will still be needed. Oh, and the small matter of a kitchen and upstairs is just a skeleton....

On the smallholding side of things, it's much more fun! We now have three Maran pullets, close to point of lay - will they start now or will it be when the weather improves?

We also have.... drum roll... four Mangalitza weaners (booked in for slaughter next month) and four Mangworths (Manga x Tamworths) which are younger and will probably not be ready 'til closer to Christmas. And then..... bigger drum roll.... A pair of Sebastopols to collect from Southampton next weekend....

And I am really tired. :D

Okay, I'm off to try and catch up on what you guys are up to..... :)

Oh, Choille. I have become so attached to my chooks (Did I forget to mention the four Brahmas from hatching eggs that are in the caravan loo...?) It must be awful to lose them like that. I look at mine free ranging and they're so happy, but there was a young fox killed by a car literally dead on the other side of our hedge from the enclosure I keep the birds in.... Almost think that if he hadn't been killed by the car, he woulda got my beloved chooks :(

The pigs are on the creeping buttercup at the moment. They have decimated it :)

What do I put in once they're moved? WE are currently containing them in an electric fence enclosure and once they're dug up everything there which will be soon, we'll be moving them somewhere else on the field. I don't just want the creeping buttercup to reappear, esatblished further by the lovely fertile pig poo ground!

Do I still need to lime? And when?

Hi Rum, son's cast comes off on Monday. He had a surgery a fortnight ago to remove the wires.

Having the animals is fabulous for the kids. They are outside so much more beacuse they have a reason to go out and son loves the chooks and takes quite a bit of responsibility for them considering he's only 6. Our three year old twins have become lots more gentle with them and confidently handle the Brahma chicks (which admittedly are akin to Ostrich chicks, they're monstrous!

The pigs are not entirely a sole venture. I have a friend of a friend who had no land and was offered the pigs for a bargain price because someone had given the breeder a back order and already paid the deposit.

There was a lot of initial fun and games because they kept escaping the electric fence, but we seem to be over that drama now.
  • Oh choille  It's horrible, isn't it? Between the mink, foxes, buzzards & magpies we eventually just gave up keeping/breeding fowl.
I hope you get the blighter & the sooner the better. Also hope the cold soon clears up.

:rotfl: Dave. Take a closer look next time for some udder gender ;)

Alfie - Don't be surprised if she means the hole at the top that you put things into the bag through :wall:

CTC - BT prices are all going up soon, too.

Once upon a time some packages by other providers still meant having a BT line rental. It's probably changed now but may still be keeping an eye open for.
We have BT phone, Broadband (& BTSport while it's on free offer :) - not that there's much to watch if you don't like football).
We have Sky TV but I did manage to get a pretty good deal out of them when I threatened to pack it all in.
Our Freeview has been next to non-existent lately. We'll have to get up to the top of the land to check the aerial but it could be the cable has been damaged (bl**dy rabbits) somewhere along the 300 odd metres it runs underground.

We locked into a deal with our electric until end of 2014 (could have done longer) so are OK until then but they still tried to up the monthly DD by £20. I got on the phone & got £3 per month knocked off instead. :D
