CTC - Lime can work but usually not completely at the first application.
It's also a bit of a black art. To do it properly you'd need a soil test & then work out which type of lime you'd be using which, in turn, would govern how much per size of the area.
Then you'd have to leave the animals off it for a while.
It can be added at any time but winter or early spring are the times said to be best. It would depend when you wanted to put the lambs out there.

hiya. has anyone experienced a computer meltdown after clicking on suggested sites here...or is it just me. just taken an hour to clear/clean system and im/was getting random spam emails like a rate of knots !!!

Malware can be hidden in any internet page, so you don't need to go anywhere dodgy;) to pick it up. In fact, you are more likely to find it in heavily used, everyday places. It used to be that you had to 'invite it in,' e.g. by downloading a picture or a tune, but now there is 'drive-by' malware, which can literally leap on you the minute you hit a page. The last one I had, over a year ago, was hiding in a page of Autotrader. My AVG free AV nabbed it though.:D:D:D

Malware won't necessarily do more than mess-up your computer by changing your home page, re-directing your Googles and throwing lots of pop-up adverts at you. To send you emails, it would have to gain access to your in-box. There, it may use your address book to send spam to all your contacts too! Three people I know have 'sent' me interesting emails in the last year or so, having been hacked like this.

The really scary stuff, like the one I had a while back, goes straight for the jugular, closes down all your AV applications and denies you access to them. If you have one of those, I can probably point you in the right direction, but there are people over on the Techie Board who will guide you much better than I could.

In the meantime, if you haven't got it already, get Malwarebytes and run a deep scan with that. You only need the free version. :)

We have sheep and creepy buttercups, especially on the bottom field. The sheep don't have the runs all the time. :p

Until Pete says, "Hey Dave, us can't keep puttin' sheep yer with all they buddercups," I think it's highly likely the situation will continue as it is. :)

They can be sprayed with a selective broadleaf weedkiller for some control, but as you know, I don't like wholesale spraying and the expense is the other thing!
  • Thanks ITSME, DAVESNAVE, Will take a better look at the side of the garden I was thinking might be suitable if it was fenced off...Itsme, it would be next year, but I would have to look into it more, To see if there was an age/stage where I could buy them, where I wouldn't have to faff around with the jabs etc...BUT its just a thought, it might not be viable..

Still feel rough... but hayho.. its better now than over Christmas..

Has anyone got the BT phone, broadband, tv package??? I am going through our outgoings to see where we can trim it down a bit, sky has just gone too expensive now, we need unlimited broadband, and we like the discovery channels, we are paying £63 per month:cool: but with BT its £27 odd for the first 6 months, and then £48 odd after that.. haven't priced, just the phone line and broadband yet... maybe I should, to see what that is..

My contract phone which the contract ended in August has now been cancelled. (saving £13 per month) .

In December my boys contract phones come to an end ( Christmas pressie 2 years ago) that's £30 per month, they can pay it themselves then:rotfl:.

Think I might have a look at the leckie provider next, we are on a token/key meter.. I know its more expensive, BUT it works for us, as there is no nasty surprise when the bill comes through.. plus we don't use as much electric as when the boys were younger... and I allways try and max out the oven when I am cooking,

I know its a bit off track, but this daydream thing is also making sure the you looking after those pennies.

Can't help with tv sorry CTC.

Every time we think about getting paid for tv we decide against it.

Tbh, bbc four has really good documentaries, and in just the right number. More tv and more to watch. The only thing we sometimes think is more movies in winter, but we're thinking about trying one of the film streaming things again this winter.

We need to get a tv person in to sort out our tv actually, we can out get the arial right in the attic, and we'd like both down.

We'd quite like free sat though and are digging a trench for oil, so could stick a cable down for say to mount it on a barn....(cannot have it on the house because of listing. )

CTC, it's amazing how all those saved pennies add up, it has certainly helped us live on a low income by cutting out non essentials.

Cancelled our sky package and took freesat when it first came in, it has saved us a fortune, you dont get all the annoying sky ads interrupting programmes and picture quality is usually great

We are holding off on changing broadband provider atm as superfast should be here late nx year and we'll want to evaluate tv/phone/broadband/tv on demand options then.

We aren't heavy mobile users so its PAYG for us.

We are just Freesat with a PVR to record the things we want to see, and even then it's impossible to keep up! :rotfl:

PAYG for us on the phones too. :)

....and I've been told its a bit of a windy site (though its not high up...just a little bit "higher" up than some here).

I can hear weird wind whistling sounds right now at intervals and this is new to me.

Am told it's quite a favourable little micro-climate here generally, but thoughts expressed as to how well (or otherwise) I'll do with my intention to grow apple trees on the most exposed part of my garden.

Had been carefully picking out several different varieties trying to maximise the number of months each year that I will get immediately edible and/or storable apples.

    Slight rethink going on now.

Anyone got any thoughts on whether this being a bit of a windy site might pose any problems to my apple tree growing? NB: I'm not up the top of a hill or anything. It's just a reasonably "open" site.

    moneyistooshorttomention

Which bit of the country are you in?

Would it be an idea to put in some sort of edible windbreak; elder, hazel, rowan etc or would they rob the light?
