After lots of grunting and groaning I admit I can't push it up a slight slope
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Oh Dave I was just coming on here to moan about constantly having to wait for others and not having things done the way I want them however you have had a worse day than me :rotfl::rotfl:
It is clear and dry today and I would like to get out and about however I am stuck here waiting on people to arrive that said they would be here at 11am
I should be putting the time to good use, clearing out the dining room, sorting the kitchen cupboards or tidying the bedroom but no I am pacing up and down constantly looking out the window and muttering to myself about wasting a day.
Right need to do something purposeful, I will be back later.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -

....but I still only got a fraction of the shares I applied for.0 -

Thanks for condolences. It is so heart breaking.
I was up through the night with the flashlight, but no sign. Guess it's full up!
Money why not just dig a trench & bury the stuff. If you shove rotting food waste on the surface you'll get vermin problems & flies too.
Gorgeous day here. CTC sounds like you have a plan a hatching.
Sorry about your neighbours - ours are a distance off but their dog barking & shouting still reaches us & I do hate it so.
This is a stonking cold that seems to be hanging on in there.
Mr Choille organising a plumber to come & talk through our water stuff. Using our own supply off the hills so will need UV lights & filters - goodness knows how we've managed this past 5 years without them!
Roofers supposed to be coming next week to finish the roof - I'm not holding my breath......it makes me cough too much.
Free listing weekend again, but very slow on the bay & plenty of hassle - sorry you're having bother Rhiwfield. If I had the energy I'd look to alternatives.
Alfie I think in England you can put grey water into a cess pit but it seems daft really. Grey water could just soak away. Where does your rain water go?0 -

At the end of the day I decided not to bother as our pensions are invested mainly in UK stocks already and though £250 gain is ok, its not a game changer.
Strimming dog mess, yeuchh
As I worked in finance for many years I've got a reasonable handle on inflation's effect on goods and savings. There is only so far you can manage with flat income and increasing costs. Listened to people on telly bemoaning the rail fare rises which are making people on high salaries struggle... what happens to people on low static incomes??
Local draft LDP is out and guess what, more prime farmland earmarked for housing, local town will increase in size by about 20%.
And the buses still not running here. Dafydd Elis-Thomas popped into the newsagent here and casually remarked what a good bus journey he had had from the airport. He got full barrel from two locals incenesed at the cancellation of the rural services.
All in all still quite a gloomy financial outlook, yet more pressure on local services, prices going up and incomes standing still.0 -

The North Devon MP had a right go in the Commons yesterday. He brought up the stupidity of the bus-pass but no buses situation. Plus...“Rural-dwellers are receiving half as much local government funding as people in cities. How on earth can the Government justify this gap? North Devon residents will – rightly - no longer put up with this unfairness while watching their public services erode.
“Each person in North Devon pays on average £102 more in council tax than those in urban areas. It is simply not right that the poorest people in the country pay such a huge amount towards increasingly thinner local services, and I will continue to fight this in Westminster.”
The "poorest people" reference, apparently, comes from the fact that Torridge (the next door constituency) has the lowest income & among highest living costs in the country. Poorer than an inner city.0 -
Davesnave, I bet you are glad today is nearly over ( well strimming poo grass, and that woman)
Rhiwie... did you see the local news a day or so ago, about Carmarthen council? to even come close to try and balance their books they got to lay off at least 200 people.. in the news report they also mentioned that some local authorities might be going bankrupt.
I know you can not live the good life forever by borrowing all the time, and you got to cut back etc.. But with price hikes etc... in your opinion Rhiwie do you think the country, or certain areas will buckle under the strain????
The government are trying to say we might be turning the corner, by saying unemployment figures are lower, and there is more people starting their own businesses, and they show you on tv, 'certain' ( cherry picked) businesses doing well. But I think its just all staged... and only telling/showing us what they want us to see/hear..
Times must be bad, I haven't got any biscwits in the house:eek::eek::rotfl:my new love now is jam sarnies:DWork to live= not live to work0 -

Yes, I saw that report. My feel is that the countryside may become even more polarised, with salaried well-off commuting incomers contrasting with relative poverty among the elderly and local workforce, with continued movement into expanding towns/cities.
I think we have discussed the economics of smallholding several times before and I don't think things will get any better
Jam sarnies? Nxt summer come and pick our blackcurrants and goosegogs and make a big batch of jam0
