MUST BE SUMFING GOOD ON THE BOX TONIGHT !!

I went to beddy-byes, because we have an early start today. We're taking the unwanted hens to market. ;)

    Rummer was probably out celebrating.

That's a fine 'rock.' I put a real slate jobby in the water feature I built at school, but it was very heavy and needed huge, non-rusting bars to hold it at the right level above the tank where the water was. I thought it might go for a few years, but I reckoned without kids putting small stones down the hole.....anyway it needed rather more maintenance than anticipated and I was glad when the pump failed. (probably kids again, putting their hands over the hole to 'stop' the water! :rotfl:)

I was too yonked to posy last night:cool:

Funeral was beautiful, there was about 30 odd bikes, and the cem was packed, so all us bikers stayed outside to listen..went back to the local pub, only intended to stay for one, but we were there most of the afternoon, I nearly fainted, was sick, and then my lips turned a nasty shade of blue:cool: was a bit wobbley then, but ok by the night, and no before you say it I had only 1/4 of my pint.:p

got a manic 2 weeks now, as we couldnt cancel the craft show at the end of the month, well we could, BUT we would still have to pay the balance:mad:, so now I am trying to get enough stock, Its going to be financial damage limitation.. and 5 - 6 days away from earning money at work... BUT at the time of booking it did make sense, and we didn't have a mountain of work to go through..

Even though eldest will do the pigs, he has got to the age, where he's not doing a proper job, and lies:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: so we will need to find someone to feed and check up on them.right better get to work

Alfie we watched a new series about the power going down - the national grid. You would love it!

CTC - Sound like you should mention what happened to you to a Doctor - Sounds really bad reaction that seriously needs checking out.

    Glad the funeral went well.

Raining & low cloud here & midgied. Roofers coming again, but it's not a great day.

Back from Hatherleigh, where the Dorkings made £8 and the Welsummers £6 each. That's fine.:)

Sorry to see them go, but with livestock, those with bad habits are best moved on. No idea who purchased, and don't want to know, as then we can imagine it was a family. :o There were some family groups looking. :)

As I know some of you like photos, here's one of bidding in progress. One day this market will be 'improved';), so I always grab a few pictures of it:

    1zl3ths.jpg
Put a £35 bid on an Allen petrol hover mower that hadn't seen much use, but it went for £38. DW put a £22 bid on an animal cage, but that went for £26. It looks like we had a reasonable nose for the right price. Some lots there go for 50p! (and the auctioneers fee is a minimum of 30p:rotfl:)

Glad you are getting yourself checked-over, CTC. It may well be overtiredness, but all the same, worth ruling out other things.

Ohh choille thanks for the tip about the national grid programme, will give it a try. Ashamed to admit I am a 'Walking Dead' addict. I look away during the gory bits, but the story lines are very well done. There's a great British actor, David Morrissey playing the main baddie, he does a fabulous soft American south accent.

CTC - good to hear the funeral was well attended, it's so sad when hardly anyone turns up. Are you feeling a bit better now, dizziness is no fun, especially when unpredicatable.

rozeepozee - looked up the Brahma chickens, lovely big friendly birds - are yours dark, light or gold or buff - or a surprise?

Dave - Looks like you had a productive morning - market looks busy, it's great to see the photo's, can really get a feel for what it is like. We used to have a cattle market in Bury St Edmunds - but it's now a shopping centre. Haven't been to the Suffolk Show for a few years but I love browsing round the chickens when I do go. What's the latest with your pole? :D

Alf - any luck on the waterworks front or is it raining over your way? Our plumbers are 'waiting for a part' - which seems to be a strategy to indefinitely prolong attending to a job until all the stars are in the correct, and no doubt arcane, alignment.

Have been in the garden, windy and spitting rain. Wrapped myself up with a scarf, fleece and ski trousers, much to DH amusement. Taken some cuttings and dug up a few seedlings to take to the new house. Sleeping much better now that this house thing seems to be settled (touch wood).
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

  • CTC - I think the National Grid programme was on C4 - you can watch online

Going to give it a try as I missed it last night.

Sorry I've missed so many pages. I just can't keep up... The hectic pace should slow in theory now as the children have started school, if only part time. It gives me some free time every weekday, a luxury previously missing in my life.

Consequently, I'm afraid I missed the posts on the funeral until now. Sorry to hear about it, CTC. And your "fainting episode". Don't put your health at the bottom of the pile of priorities, eh? I know we all have busy lives....

BD, the Brahmas are Dark and Blue. Blue is a non-standard colour. I'm comtemplating buying a Poland !!!! to go with my bantam pullets (pekins and a silkie) to see what funky chicks we get out of them. A biology experiment in action for the kids (and the big kid, me!)

I've been wondering about what people do with their excess hens, so you answered that for me,Dave. There's a regular Poultry Car Boot sale close-ish to us here. I think it's more os a social for the sellers, but it's fun to visit and I may give it a whirl next season if my poulty addiction gets out of hand.

The build costs are a mystery at the moment because of the huge change in plan from just enforcing the roof, to a complete roof renewal. We have just had our third valuation. So far, we've spent about 50% of the original budget, 30% of what now seems to be the more realistic assessment :rotfl:If I didn't laugh...

However, I went up to the new roof space yesterday and it was a clear day. The new veluxes, pine end windows and the new dormer give us pretty wonderful sea views because we now we have a first floor. Previously, I had to go to the front gate and perch on it! I console myself with this :)
