Dry clean only?

Could you hang it somewhere to get a bit of fresh air & freshen it, then iron it carefully, maybe with a bit of scented ironing water?0

Hang it up in the bathromm while you have a good steamy shower, then press it nicely.Val.0

Ok thanks both.

I've learned over the years to take these Dry Clean only labels with a pinch of salt and that applies to silk too. Sooner or late your dress will need to be cleaned rather than just freshened up. I had a very expensive silk dress and washed it in hand warm soapy water, rinsed in tepid water and hung it on a hanger to drip dry. It came up like new. I've always washed silk ties in the same way and have yet to report a failure. The secret is to treat silk items very gently. Don't sweeze or wring them.0

Thanks Primrose. I've done this before with another Monsoon dress which had a small silk panel on it, but the rest was chiffon and jersey. So I didn't want to try it without asking!
I was planning on washing it after it's next outing so fingers crossed it will be ok.

i too ignore the labels that state dry clean only
im of the opinion i have nothing to lose by giving it a wash. if it washes up ok, great. if not, then it doesnt matter, because i wouldnt be wearing the dress again anway, because it smelt or was stained
I dont even bother being gentle and doing a hand-wash. i just bung it in a normal wash, and hope for the best (might put it inside a pillow case if really being careful)

I have been washing silk clothes for years. Put them on the wool programme, I then iron straight away whist the garment is wet [with the iron on steam setting]. I know this sounds a bit daft, but even ironing wet silk on steam still drys the garment and leaves it beautifully crease free0

I hand wash silk, and iron wet like nanna, on steam setting as a dry iron will dry the silk too quickly and you get iron marks. if the garment is ALL silk its no prob - just be more careful if it has areas of other fabrics (like interfacings or panels of cotton and iron carefully!
had to edit as - I am wondering why they put a silk setting on irons? it doesnt work! never yet successfully ironed silk on the silk setting!0 -

What setting should I iron it on then?
As you can tell I don't iron often! :rotfl:
