    Hi Guys

I wondered if any one has any tips for washing a "dry clean" only wollen jumper in the machine?

My hubby bought a jumper in the sale without realising it was "dry clean" only...

    Thanks in advance

The risk from washing pure wool is from shrinkage, so use only cold water on the gentlest cycle with a water-drain rather than a spin at the end. Then dry flat on an old bath-towel.

If it's a decent-quality sweater I'd probably wash it by hand: just squeezing, no rubbing

    Hi B&T

    Thanks for the reply

I've never washed anything by hand before, LOL, so will give a cool wash a try :-)

Good Heavens! What do you do with your tights and stockings? Your good-quality bras with the underwires? Or are you a gentleman with no need of said items?

Edited to add: I've just reread your first post and think it's probably unlikely you are a chap as you have a husband but you never know......

    LOL

    Don't do tights and stockings!

As for the bra's, i bung them in the washer, as they are only cheapies from asda!!

Use one of those net bags you can get for washing those tights and stockings you don't do - the machine will probably stretch the jumper out of shape otherwise!!
  • Or, as husband had the bright idea...tell him he has to hand wash it. Even marks and sparks machine washable, tumble dryable jumpers shrink in the wash, so dry clean only is not a good omen.

  • Use baby shampoo on a cool setting in the washer.
The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.

Thanks for all your replies guys :-)
  • Hey all

I have a lovely red silk dress that I bought in the Monsoon sale. I wore it on weekend and want to wear it Friday night. It needs a clean but it says dry clean only on label.

Is there an OS way round dry cleaning it?

It's not dirty (no stains or marks) but needs freshening up.

    TIA
