House near motorway - would you buy?

I'm considering purchasing a house that is only 100 metres or so from a motorway. The drone noise is audible inside the property, on the rear side of the house, which faces a row of tress and then the motorway. The sound is muffled somewhat by the double glazing but I would still find it disturbing if left 'as is'. I assume (and hope) that good secondary glazing would reduce this to an imperceptible level. The concern then would be having to open the window in hot weather etc . There is also a conservatory which acts an effective shield for the living room, but inside the conservatory you can certainly hear the monotonous drone of the traffic.
I asked the owners about how bad the traffic noise gets and they replied that it depends on which way the wind blows.
Not sure what to do because the house is in top notch condition and fairly priced for the area.
Has anyone had a similar experience with a house? Has the noise been a major issue or did you learn to live with it?

There's a lovely house near us that's in an almost identical situation. It's been on the market for at least 2 years now and the price has dropped a lot over that time. Still no buyers though so it's obviously a concern for most.
Would you be intending to sell in the future? You may struggle if so.
Reaction to noise is a very personal thing, it would annoy me greatly and I wouldn't get used to it.Herman - MP for all!0 -

There is no evidence of houses struggling to sell in that street.0 -
I live in a house that is next to a busy main road through a small village, the house has a longish front garden and is elevated so not right next to the road if you see what I mean.
After 7 years, we have put it on the market, for the several reasons, mainly due to the road, you can't have windows open on warm Summer evenings as you can't hear TV.
If you are standing at bottom of garden, you can't hear anyone shouting to you from the patio next to the house. You can't sit in garden in Summer due to noise. Lorries rumbling past at 4am wake us up regularly.
Doesn't help matters that there is a bus stop next to our garden either. It's good fun waving to people sat upstairs on top deck though, when they look through the window !!
Apart from all that it's a lovely housebut I'd warn you to think very carefully before buying.

My advice is, if it's next to the M4 in the Royal County of Berkshire then buy it......you can't go wrong. I hear the Queen often spends her days driving up and down this most regal of motorways :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0
