I looked at that one, but it didn't say 800MHz and I wasn't sure if that was importantNiftyDigits wrote: »

In answer to all of your questions....
You haven't told us anything about the laptop, so we don't know if if DDR2 800 will bring any benefits..
If you purchase a single 2GB 800Mhz module and leave the original 512MB module in, it will clock down to 667Mhz anyway. But you'll have 2.5GB RAM.
If you buy 2 x 1 GB RAM, you may benefit by utilising a dual channel platform.
So if the plan is to add the 2GB to the original 512MB, there will be no benefit to having an 800MHz module.
In short I would always choose to use two modules as opposed to one.0 -
Where is oldgrumpygit? He brought a bit of levity to the thread.0

Don't be silly.
From the very first post:On current RAM stick there is a sticker that says 512MB 2Rx16 PC2-5300S-555-12-A0
What's the matter with people today?

To be fair, your responses made you sound like a t*** so I'd be surprised if he posts in this thread again.
There is nothing wrong with using the Crucial scanner, in fact, it is very useful for most people. It is not only for "people who don't know what they are doing".
Obviously the OP couldn't get the scanner working on this occasion though

I was told I needed to replace the 512Mb with 2GBNiftyDigits wrote: »In answer to all of your questions....

I just thought it would be easier to replace it with 1 x 2Gb
They are old laptops, currently running Windows XP, (although they were originally Vista when they were purchased), Intel Celeron CPU 530 @ 1.73 GHz (whatever that means
)
For what reason would you always choose to use two modules as opposed to one? (I assume something more technical than 'because it's better'
) Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0
